There is a swan made out of privet at 41 (I think) Whateley Road. It looks great. Maybe other privet owners could find out who did it and have their twigs trimmed? Nero

Recycling is good. Reusing is better. Reducing (ie not buying it in the first place, whether it is green, eco, fairtrade or bog-standard) is best. Nero

I didn't say it was racist per se, but that the phrase has its roots in racism. You simply cannot deny that. I am positive that the Whitte Stuff people are not racist at all, just that they are ignorant as to where the phrase came from. I am not a radio-phone-in-caller-type who sees bad stuff everywhere. Did anyone notice that the grafitti spelt 'neighbourhood' in the American way? It could be complete ignorance, an innocent mistake, or an affectation to fit in with the whole campaign, which actually has rather nasty racist roots. (Cf American tradition of Anglos complaining about the Irish who then complain about the Jews who then complain about the blacks coming in to a specific area.) Nero -
Hugue, Do you remember when BBC news played the video footage taken by a guest at the Israeli wedding of scores of guests plunging to their deaths when the floor caved in? It was pornographic, the worse thing I have ever seen broadcast on a news channel. It was much more shocking than pictures of limbs etc. I was so angry at that and complained to the BBC. This Diana thing is similar. It is just a case of 'we've got it, let's show it'. Nero

When I first moved here I studied a large A-Z of the area and it helped aa lot to find out where things fitted in with one another. D Village has no station and only 1 bus - the P4 to Brixton. The 37 goes nearby to Putney and Peckham. Nero

I am going to ask my neighbour the Labour councillor about the strip. It is better than it was, but it could be a bit nicer. I am NOT against betting shops and laundries, but the pavement and furniture is all wrong. A few trees would do wonders. Nero
