  1. Or as *bob* once said (or near enough). The proper posting rule on this type of thread: Where I used to live was once really great/cool/hip etc but is now sh1te (ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS ED) Where I live now is great/Cool/hip UNLESS I am about to move in which case see above and then ADD where I'm about to move to is great/cool/hip. He did it much funnier than me though.

Maybe, but he's been immense. All over the pitch and he's not fully fit yet. My only critcism is that he's a bit too used to the better ball control of playing with Barcelona (ok...and Arsenal) so his distribution to our technically inferior players puts them under pressure :)

"It is always the same with Spurs. Every season, the expectations at White Hart Lane are far higher than anything they can realistically achieve" Robbie Savage nails it....not often you can say that :)
  15. I despartaely want to like this and will persevere but I think it tries a bit too hard

  17. Only the privileged lefty middle-classes don't realise how many families from working class and minorities struggle and how many more aspire to put their kids into private education. They preach on from their pleasant expensive neighbourhoods with decent performing state schools and expect the working class to know their place.
  18. Was reading Lola Okolosie's typical Guardian piece of Class Warfare* (*middle class warriors only obvioulsy) and this comment in the comments sums up a lot of my views "The Guardian is constantly bashing private schools - and state grammar schools - despite the fact it is a hypocritical, illiberal, and illogical position for them to take. Hypocritical because so many of their senior figures went to private schools or sent their children to them - including Toynbee and Rusbridger, who did both. Incidentally, CP Scott, who founded the Guardian, was instrumental in founding one of the country's consistently top-performing private schools, Withington Girls', in Manchester. Illiberal, because in a free society people should be able to choose what they spend their money on - not to mention that many self-made or aspirational people from working class and migrant backgrounds see private schools as a way of shoring up their children's security after a lifetime of hard work. Illogical, because high house prices in areas with 'outstanding' state schools result in de facto selection by wealth. In Chorlton, Manchester - where the Guardian historially sells well - two bedroom terraces routinely fetch ?250,000+ in catchment areas for the most fashionable state PRIMARY schools - in a city where the median household income is about ?22,500."

Liverpool are looking increasingly average...only City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Southampton stand out for me this season and the latter must surely drop?
  20. but EP - there are huge, huge swathes of the world where secularism and the values of the enlightment are being pushed back by religous dogma in a way that wasn't the case as recently as the 70s and 80s. It's a cliche but the PLO of the 1970s slept witch each over, smoked fags, wore flares and mini-dresses and discussed marxism - is Hamas like that? Turkey is increasing turning away from the liberal values of wotsisname (the post war founder of modern turkey, cant be arsed to googfe); places like Cairo as recently as 20 years ago had reasonable numbers of bars/nightlife and woman, including locals, could wear what they wanted, no longer. There is a revival in at least some head covering among daughters whose mum's didn't cover up at all. Even an established democracy like indonesia is showing some worrying signs of rolling back liberalism. And for a non-muslim bias - a significant factor in the failure of the peace process in plaestine/israel is the settlers - Ultra-Orthodox jews, where were they during the Kibbutz phrase (Kibbitsism with its secular socialism is almost non-existent now).
