  1. to paraphrase Groucho - I wouldn't want to be on a Forum that woud have me as a moderator. I think they do a pretty good and largely thankless task on here *doffs cap* Occasionally they make mistakes but they're only human... ....oh, hang on a minute, I was forgetting, they're lizards aren't they?

  3. Sublime header Piers
  4. Thin line between gentleman and cad...you need to tread carefully
  5. I dunno, the Emirates can be pretty intimidating - sometimes the chink of cutlery and Melvin Bragg holding forth on Mendes' production of the Cherry Orchard drowns out the referee's whistle
  6. Could we have an MP chipping too? We could then see... 1) How much time they spent in Parliament 2) How much in their constituiency 3) How much in their mansion in the midlands or second home whatever
  7. Jeremy in straightforward terms public sector spending, wether through taxation or government borrowing, is a motor for growth (the argument over its efficieny in doing this is a different one). That's basic Keynesian stuff - the Hoover dam etc
  8. Thanks all many reminders and a few newbies. My reggae story - early 70s the older lads at school and mates older brothers all old school skinheads so an introduction via Ska...but then not really that much exposure (when I first heard the name Bob Marley i thought he'd be like Peter Frampton or Eric Clapton as it sounded a very english name!). A lot of reggae around during the punk thing but really I was exposed to dub reggae via blues party's in Leicster, where a really good mate went to uni and our incessant search for grass led us to some great blues parties - aways friendly despite us effectively looking like white football hooligans (wedges and Fred Perrys) - although of course we had to pay to get in and probably a bit extra for a can of lager. Loved reggae ever since jah, one love

  12. ..ahhhh, but that's the frustration for me Sean. Some of the real intelects and heavyweights then don't feature in the loungelite version...and I love those guys, just couldn't eat a whole one if you see what I'm saying. I think the seperation fails both serious debate and some fun. Not easy I know and early days but this is my initial feeling.
  13. Hurry up Harry- Sham 69
  14. Mark, I like some serious debate but with some lightness in it- the Drawing Room is too straight - the few serious debaters will love that but many posters are like me, i suspect, so I think ultimately the debates will miss opinions of many decent contributors whilst meanwhile the lounge gets dumbed down...just my opinion, but I think it's a mistake.

  17. I don't think the Drawing Room is great at all - too worthy and dull we may have got a place for serious debate but it's reminded me how tedious serious debate can be without the occasional lighthearted interjection or meander
  18. Sod the house prices...tube=change of community in a negative sense
