I think Newcastle did pretty well under Keegan at a time when football was having its (still ongoing) renaissance - Asprilla /Shearer era . That reignited (the undoubted massive one city club ) the passion and also supporting Newcatsle became very much a parat of the ?Geordie? nation identity. So, some reignited potential and some success (although no trophy) at the right time.

Aren't the fans entitled to expect better? In the nadir of the mid-80s West Ham had bigger avergae gates than both 'giants' Chelsea and Newcastle. We've always had strong core support much more than those w*nkers at the Bridge but also the so called NE Giants (I'd add Sunderland into that too)

Yes, I think so, for Europe. Anyway...just to cheer you up Jah (and me). I make old Bagpuss right http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jun/11/harry-redknapp-tottenham-major-disappointment
  10. Specialists/surgery really? (people from Swansea when I was at StTommy's recently) Gps - except in extreme locations most have choice A&E maybe
  11. PS in the same way that most of the lefty's on here think I'm a Tory
  12. What about intenal 'market' competition (with or without any private provision) say using say league tables of performance and giving patients more choice in who they use? Where you stand on that Rah? I've never thought you a Marxist Rah - as a someone more on the left you are inclined to use 'marxist' framing of words sometimes. But you are always up for a decent debate withoput getting shouty. BTW I'm a nearlly a pure marxist in terms of looking at the world we live in based on how the means of production define it, culture, our views etc - I think Marx's insights here are nearly spot on. His analysis and ideology after that are cloud cuckoo of course :)

I don't thin the Tories are planning to destroy it - in reality they've pledged more spending. I think it needs reform but with propaganda type tosh spouted by Labour and the unions and widely accepted ( as your post shows) even getting an adult debate is nigh on impossible. Ps National Insurance is tax in all but name and how did I You GOv get on in pre-election polling?

they've changed it foe Europe for sure
  15. ...so taken your thinking's logical conclusion everything should be run by the state then Jeremy? I am sceptic too about much of it thus far Rah - but that doesn't mean it's not workable and shouldn't be up for discussion and trial. Too much ideology from both end of teh debate for my liking.
  16. Sounds like dogma to me. As Ms Kendall rightly said it should be about outcomes not how it is delivered. BTW Huge public services e consistently been exposed as paying ridiculously over the odd prices for goods and services as they don't have the procurement skills, incentives or culture to utilise their economies of scale. I'd like less dogma and some more honest from both left and right but until we have an open discussion and when the reaction is 'close all debate down' we get the status quo which won't be fit for purpose for mid 21st century demographics or practice.
  17. I blame Laurie Lee - we all know it's really incest and cirhossis

If you scroll up you'll find I said that plenty of times in this thread - once they were fit we went back to as you were and the pre-match capitulation at Chelsea showed leopards and spots. Best for both of us WH and Him really - he was targeted to get in the top 10 this season and he didn't do that, we really struggled last year until very near the end and we were lucky to get up via the Play offs when we did, in a season when we had by far the best squad and most to spend in the Championship , would be a less charitable but reasonably truthful non Sam and Sam's mates in the media spin on his time with us. When you add to that his contempt for West Ham's fans, to be frank Fuck him. I'm not sure we'd have done especially well with him this year either so am prepared to give Bilic a break.

He took Beskitas to 5th, then 4th, then 3rd against the massive Turkish giants. They also played very well against both Liverpool and Spurs in the CL/Europa. Russia's not easy for anyone and being sacked is hardly a rarity in football management - BFS was sacked by Blackburn and Newcastle. As I say, unproven but glad the walrus is gone...
