  1. The mention of "The old Wollies" made me think... Jogged the memory & the fact that the current Foxton's premises on LL used to be a Wollies....
  2. It's OK. They have turned up safe & sound in Madrid. Mucked up the Tennis for a while, but no harm done. Swarm of bees lands on No 1 court. We should be getting our postcard soon.
  3. Is fly-posting any more unsightly then the clapped out red vans dotted around the postcode, that don't seem to be moved on, or ticketed? Judging from the holes in the bodywork I'd be very surprised if they are road worthy, if they run at all.
  4. It's gone National! Well nearly, the "Swarm of Bees Terrify Shoppers" Billboard has... although the associated preamble is miles off... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8024511.stm
  5. On the traffic lights outside Lloyds Bank. About 3.00 ish this afternoon. Has anybody lost them or see which way they went?
  6. We were photoed on a Tuesday, as the recycling is all in the front garden ready to be collected. A bright & sunny day.
  7. I use Vodafone & all good down near Goose Green, but find that the nearer you get to Crystal Palace, top end LL. Harvester, Barracks, Sydenham Hill area the worse reception gets. With several dead spots or patchy areas. I'm guessing the relay aerials are somewhere near the Towers, so can it be that you can get too close to get a good signal?
  8. SCSB79 using your argument about "why celebrate something that is nothing to do with them" ... wouldn't attending any birthday party, except your own, fall under this restriction? Just askin.....
  9. I think the "big" refers to the font size. Does help pack the pages during a slow news week apparently.
  10. Just thought I would bump this thread. As we are entering their most busy period, also to say that visited Sylvester Rd at 07.15 this morning (open from 06.30 till Christmas!) & was met with a cheery welcome & very swift service. Staff welcomed the extended hours & the Overtime that ensues.
  11. Sad fate for what could have been a nice landmark property. Does it's present state not highlight a weakness of the present Listing System? Anybody who buys it is obliged to restore it in using correct materials etc, thus rendering it an uneconomic project. But no penalty for just leaving it to rot & collapse, at which time I guess, site can be redeveloped with no such complications. Letter of the law being obeyed, but achieving what?
  12. What's the required skill-set for an edible snail keeper inner? Would make a fascinating job advert...
  13. Not really big enough. Only 12 Mini sized parking spaces, for a start.
  14. This will be a great labour saving idea the first time you try it & it will work perfectly right up until you get back off the train that evening. When it will become apparent why you will not be having a second attempt.
  15. What's the capital of Iceland? About ?3.60 What's the difference between a bag of chips & an Investment Banker? The chips can feed a family of four!
  16. Blow ?20.00 in LL easy peasy... just park a bit wonky, with 1 wheel on the curb. The ?20.00 will cover the cost of the blood pressure pills you will need when you get your ?60.00 ticket!
  17. Dulwich Tandoori & Jaflong are my current two best choices. Food good, service ditto & all for a sensible price.
  18. No no no.... for that crime they should have been shot... not just rolled in the grass!
  19. The Thai Corner has received a bit of a caning on here over recent months... so would just like to say that last evening we took a friend from out of town (booked table at 24 hrs notice) & although very busy the service was quick & efficient, food superb, the atmosphere excellent & the price most acceptable. Not particularly earth shattering news I do accept. "Restaurant does a good job!" ....... but just thought I would take 2 seconds & give praise where it's due.
  20. We use the Surgery in Sternhall Lane. & this is the way ours were handled, for both of the last two years. We buy, they insert!
  21. ?7.25 is the non member one off charge & after the class you could have used the gym for as long as you wished on the same ticket. If you use the facilities regularly, twice a week or more averaged across the year, then membership makes sense & will end up costing you about ?4.00 a go. Possibly less, if you join during a special offer or Promo period. (Of which there seem to be many.) I have no axe to grind or benefit to gain from this, just went through the same maths after the most recent (steep!) price rise & joined. On the whole the size of the place & classes are pretty good. Early eve periods which you expect to be busy are & at other times you can have the gym almost to yourself.
  22. There was an interesting piece about these maps on R4 the other day. How they are OK to give a background guide to an area but pointing out that the way they are compiled unfortunately builds in some anomalies. For instance every Police Station (& it's postcode) will show as a Crime spike. Simply because multiple crimes are reported there & it's the Postcode where the crime is reported that goes into the figures.
  23. A Cinema in ED. That would be a very satisfactory full circle, used to go to the Saturday Mornings shows at the one in Grove Vale opposite the petrol station. (flats now on the old car park.) That closed down due to under use & became the Palace of Peace! Is it possible that one maybe a bit closer to D/V to draw on both sets of inhabitants would be viable?
  24. But what if you don't smoke..... but still want to live somewhere smaller than a Town?
