That is a lovely story Belle, thanks for posting. I guess that we will never know unless we take the plunge and move. I hope (and believe) that UK is more advanced than for instance Sweden. It is not only a concern of open racism of course but also the perspective our children will have as they grow up. We are so blessed here with the diversity. My fear and i guess also the fear of the OP would be that the child would feel isolated and lack the feeling of belonging and togetherness if brought up in a largely white area.

PN33 We have just started exploring catford as well. I dont know much about the area but have started looking at houses and schools. It reminds me abit of how Nunhead was when we moved here in 2006 (before the BMW's and Range Rovers came to Ivydale). Along with some other more obvious choices Beckenham, Bromley, Sydenham etc Catford is def an area we are considering. I think it is the only area in London where we could afford a house with a garden:)

Yes such a shame, have been a regular (way too regular) since they opened and I will really miss the guys. Best coffee in the area too.

Forest Hill seems like a good place to live,we were looking there before we bought our flat and only ended up in Nunhead as it was cheaper then:).

Nunhead prices on houses are crazy but I have been told that flats are hard to sell. We were advised to hold on to ours or rent it out (a victorian flat on ivydale road in great condition but no garden). Our neighbours were told the same thing by their agents. I have started to look at other areas now as we would like something bigger. Catford, Sydenham, Penge, Beckenham etc. Its a hard one - I love where I live but the space just doesnt work for us anymore- for alot of reasons.

Need your help forumites. We want to take ds out for a special treat, make a fuss etc. where do we go? I could do with getting away frm all the usual suspects (much as we love them). So apart frm local parks, gumbados, peckham softplay, horniman, brockwell lido etc - where would you go? I dont mind driving and it doesnt have to be fancy. I just want da to have a lovely day with both his parents fussing over him. Please help with ideas- my mind is blank. X

James and Renata, Your input and updates on this forum is invaluable for us parents who are concerned about tbe lack of school places. Please keep those updates comming. The comments above are ridiculous though. Agree with Belle it is off putting and does not do anything to improve the opinion people have of politicians. Keep up the good work you do - but seriously - cut out the rest.

Hi and Welcome! There is so much on for toddlers, you will have problems to narrow it down and fit everything in:) My son is 18 months and we are always around on a Friday if you would like to meet? There is also always lots of mums with toddlers at the dish and spoon cafe and they are always chatty. Send me a PM if you would like to meet up.

Many years ago I contacted social services regarding a little girl I was teaching in ballet. This was in Sweden anda u years ago. Daunting as it was - I was only 18yrs at the time - it was the right thing to do on that occasion. I also spoke to my health visitor about someone I thought needed more support. Follow your gut instinct Pickle, you seem a very sensible woman. One phone call too many is better than the phonecall that never was when it comes to child welfare.

I agree! I buy alot of ds clothes at h&m as the sizes suits him and the clothes wash really well. Swedish brands in general do v well on the colour front. Polarn & Pyret are great too.
