  1. TJ - sorry to disagree but I reckon the 3 points you make apply to many other areas too I think the recent lift in numbers is down to the EDF being a destination. It has become something "your mum" might even be aware of. And I reckon a large part of that is down to the people who frequented at the beginning - the keefs, the mockney piers, the huguenots and some others who have since drifted away. I read them all for ages before posting myself and the place stood out not as a local resource but a genuinely interesting place which happened to be in and occasionally about ED. Their number has been swelled by several other regulars over the years - and it is these people that make it what it is, whether they joined 2 years ago, 2 weeks ago or haven't joined yet. Something other than just another forum. Lots of people come in and then drift away again but there is a core at the heart of this forum that doesn't exist elsewhere - and it is that which makes it different. In my view anyway - it's what makes me keep coming back. Although I like quids description as well
  2. a great post Marmora and getting the kudos it deserved I've taken the postcode/wall/them posts with a pinch of salt as I think a whole bunch of views (some tongue in cheek, some looking for a rise, some possibly genuine) have been conflated, but as clear a line in the sand that is a splendid effort Again, my thoughts go to the family involved, but for the rest of us... it's one thing to feel fear, to be aware of it and admit it. It's another thing to give in to it.... Today I changed nothing - walked back via parts of Peckham and ED on the way home. Absolutely fine. And for pretty much every one of us that is how life will continue
  3. sorry Bren, I cross posted (s'what happens when I'm actually working at same time - gasp!)
  4. It does come around quickly doesn't it? I sha'nt be at this one - which is a shame as I do like an excuse to head to the FHT on a busy night. Have a good night, new and regulars...
  5. Before we all jump on GoM's post, and despite the fact that there is much wrong in his nostalgic viewpoint, his basic thrust that in the last few weeks the forum hasn't read all too brilliantly rings true Of course I would then start a defense which says much of the chatter comes from SOME newer posters and SOME old-timers and one can't just say "you" lot as in everyone One could also argue that if you find what people are saying to be rubbish, either ignore it, or challenge them as they arise and contribute rather than just coming on and insulting everybody
  6. All about firefox. .
  7. andy - are you real?
  8. oh dear god yes - what quids said!
  9. fighting fire with fire young man I'm not disputing the gist of the argument but personal insults and theft? Be a better human/wolf. You'll feel better. Honestly
  10. Horrible thing to witness - even the aftermath But it's not unknown in a major city is it - let's hope they catch the perp
  11. BBW - stop being such a, using your words, prick
  12. Mockney: That's a cheat as you asked me that offline yesterday!
  13. satire Jamma? I had written a lot more about that book, but thought your summary of psih summed it up nicely. It is pertinent to the topic at hand tho'
  14. absolutely matthew! 6th floor of my office has plenty of 'em usual control methods are discussed in the recommendations section of the forum..
  15. I can't even see the titles of your songs, much less a video work firewalls eh?
  16. quids was being ironic BBW
  17. I've just read that one as well .
  18. here you go Bren - a little bit topical Fun Boy 3 -
  19. Make sure he sees you taking a picture of him - if he knows he will be identified that might just be enough to deter
  20. that wasn't a telling off BBW ! that was an explanation... if you want to see a (public) telling off you could do worse than search for the words... no I'll leave that one be actually The forum terms of use are there for everyone to read and it's not a question of whether kids read the site or not. It's not even the case of whether "people" found it offensive. It might have more to do with having some consideration for the OP who is, given the circumstances, unlikely to see the funny side Now having said all that I'm trying to think of something funny..... ..... nope maybe later
  21. PGC - I don't I'm afraid - I'm not a fan so I don't bother with it. Obviously I could look up a recipe online but can do that/have already done that. I CAN tell you to never think orange segments upon which has rested a pork belly for 4 hours will be enhanced by the process tho! Sorry
  22. true and true Although I don't think the Guardian has ever made money and with the trust in place I think it's fairly secure. The Indy has just been bled dry and is a shadow of itself - a shame IMO. That said, I expect most of the "serious" papers to survive the recession - editorially there is nowehere else like a newspaper to tie various strands of an argument together and "serious" readers are as interested in that as they are anything else. It is something you just don't get from an online source
  23. now I have NO idea what he is about!!
  24. You wouldn't be the first person to come in all guns blazing only to end up becoming a resident yourself BBW What you describe is pretty much how I usually feel since I came across the EDF (imagine a time when the only local online banter came from lordshiplane.co.uk uk's TALK section or the chat bit on upmystreet - oy vey!) Of late (and I've mentioned this to a few people on here) - say the last couple of weeks, that has diminished somewhat as a whole bunch of crazy peeps came in , trying to find their feet and generally making the place feel like a school playground (in the bad way, not the good way) but then again, the latter half of this week has seen that noise abating and the general banter pick up again - exemplified by your OP above. Warms teh cockles of my heart it does Oh - and I've been out in Fizzy Hill a couple of times this week too - should I keep an eye out next time I'm on Bar Question?
