  1. you know what to do Moos http://www.cartoonstock.com/newscartoons/cartoonists/tha/lowres/than4l.jpg
  2. to go back to Anansfields' original post on this thread, I'm coming out and saying RosieH. Post after post of jut plain spot-onness. There - I can't take it back now Thank goodness it's not about people from here I have met...
  3. I thought of this yesterday when I saw a massive facebook petition called "STOP our Government from killing of ST Georges Day because it may offend!" As you can imagine it is full of shrieking bile, stupidity and most of all just being plain wrong, as most of these things are, but you have to love anyone that proclaims how great being English is and is unable to use "off" instead of "of", nor to use apostrophes. Typos are one thing but with nearly 200000 people joining the petition one would have thought they had time to correct it
  4. I'm with Jamma - gove someone a break. If it turns out to be rubbish then so be it but if someone tries to change things, far better surely to encourage with positive criticsm than openly mock I don't think local papers will ever again be a force because too many factors are ranged against them, including: consolidating owenership budget cuts safe editorial - scandal and soft stories over genuine interest but if someone comes along and tries to make some kind of change, judge them on results rather than taking the easy scorn option
  5. I was over Sloane Square way a couple of weeks ago - I'm with PeckhamRose on this one. Just because people have developed sloppy, lazy, selfish habits (both pedestrians and drivers) doesn't mean we should just indulge those habits rather than try and improve things I've recently read Traffic - What we drive and what it says about us and was very impressed by much of the work being done globally. Taking an insular "it's not right!" approach isn't too helpful. If nothing else - if it doesn't improve traffic flow, or fatalities or speeds - if it only achieves some sort of breakdown in the barriers that exist between "them and us" then it will be useful
  6. Wise words penk wise words. I was caught out badly once by one of the uber lagers. . But the 5 ish per cent jobs are lovely
  7. Bbw Thats like. . The nicest post ever !
  8. Moving. So. Sucks Gowlett is aces tho
  9. Happy Birthday to la Trotter today
  10. Im still hacked off this thread isnt about iggy pop's under rated mid 80s album called "blah blah blah"
  11. It was Budgens in it's last incarnation It is now a Londis - but one where they can't be fagged to put up a proper sign, so subconsciously it still clocks as a Budgens But whatever it is it's not Davinas - so let's get back on topic
  12. BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE NOT MOANING ABOUT THE DESCRIPTION OF THE GIRLS!!! sorry for shouting Admin - but people seem to be reading a different thread
  13. both of you at the same time?? I don't need any notice, I'll drop plans for that
  14. The more "exotic" the crisp flavour, the less successful the crisp I just wish they would bing back spring onion flavour
  15. yeah it's been mentioned before JB here I agree with you - I have yet to see the "win" on this one. And it seems that people only sign up to it shamefacedly anyway. Judging by their facebook updates anyway (yes yes.. I know)
  16. I wish the power of the tube had something of that effect when I lived in East Ham
  17. we are veering off subject now aren't we - any news on the incident itself? But yes, filling diversity targets is a blunt tool Tony, but racism it ain't. Do remember why blunt tools like this are in place - there was a time not that long ago when it wasn't possible to get a job in this country because of the colour of your skin. And I suspect there are some work cultures where, without equal opportunites or whatver, it would revert back to similar lines Last time I looked, white people (usually men) held most of the important jobs in this country. Couldn't say the same for Alabama in the 50s could you? Y'see that was racism...
  18. I said "unless" you didn't want to understand why some people get defensive. I wasn't saying you fit this description We don't go anywhere because there is nowhere to go. Apart from an early defensive gesture, since withdrawn by northlondoner, no one is saying it is either of those things. So let it go You might well be on the way again.. like I said, no-one is doing any of the things you are accusing them of. You gave it both barrels accusing "you people on here" and you can't show anything to back up your assertions. true true, but in this case I think it's obvious that nothlondoner didn't want to do that. Over-reacted slightly but quickly retracted. Sheesh I wish more people did that.
  19. sorry mike - I meant that more light-heartedly than it came across
  20. "you people on here" - I'm sorry - apart from the original post by northlondoner, nobody on this thread has had any issue with the description given See what you've done there? Made up an issue out of nothing and then attributed it to everyone else Who needs to grow up again? What I went on to do was to suggest a possible reason why some people might behave a little defensively - nothing on this thread is, as you rightly point out, racist. But then not every race suffers from racism and a teeeeny bit of empathy might help you understand where somebody like nothlondoner is coming from. It doesn't make them always right to be defensive - and fair play she came back fairly quickly. But then again maybe you don't want to understand. And then that would get a bit creepy
  21. normally I would bow to your knowledge of property at that end of the Lane karter, but I'm not aware of the gym and the baby shop (Mama bebe whatsit) is a few doors down I think btw - whatever happened to that coffee shop chain you were hinting at a few years back?
  22. Bah humbug - who is going to house-sit for my furniture deliveris next month now???!
  23. come on Louisa keep up - northlondoner has come back to address that point, and thank the OP. I think from what I have read that everyone finds the original post helpful. Take time out from "broken-record" repetition of "political correctness gone mad" and have a look at what I wrote about why some people get defensive
  24. Nope - that's just you Mike
  25. An ultimately pointless initial post... err I mean letter, followed some days later by another po.. letter saying the first was unnecessary I feel your pain mike, I really do
