  1. Im not so petty as to be offended by the term breeders. . But it is intended in a negative light and doesnt reflect well on most who use it. I would argue. . . .
  2. Mike - you should become pub-reviewer-in-chief.. you seem to be pretty bang-on with recent posts It is a shame the front bar isn't busier - ditto Hoopers bar. But unless more of us put our money where our mouth is and go to the type of bar we say we like..... Spot on about the burger as well - everything else I have had on the menu was great but pubs don't get burgers right it seems. Still, should be busier next Friday - I'm looking forward to it more than usual
  3. Clearly not many of us who have posted like it - but I'm not convinced it will close due to a lack of interest. I think plenty of people out there will like it Shame Toby hasn't come back on since the opening - but then I'm not all that surprised either. I was going to speak to him on the opening night but it was way to busy and I doubt we could have heard each other anyway... Right, I'm off to the Duke for a manly beer
  4. All 6 of us got our guitars up to 11? Yup Fancy playing something loud with a filthy riff? Yup
  5. What do you think, quids? Of course I have - and have been warned after a raid as well(I know I know - ooooohhh!) But let's say they started fining people for doing just that - lingering after hours in bars. I might vote against it, I might disagree mightily with the concept. But I promise you I wouldn't continue to linger in the bar after hours and if I did do that and got fined I wouldn't start banging on about what a victim I was. It's not a holier than thou thing.... some of the best progress in history have been through civil disobedience. But it depends on the cause doesn't it? Look - if people want to dicuss the merits or otherwise of cameras/fines/litter/whatever, what's the problem. But that's not what's happening. What's happening is that people are behaving like children - waiting to be caught at something and then bleating how unfair it all is. ie - it's not about the principle of the thing - it's the childish "mwaaaaaaaahhhhh" that eminates after a parental smack. Calling it an easy cash-cow is equally childish. I have sympathy with indie's situation above and I've agreed before that wardens are now overly aggressive. But there are sound reasons for their existence, ditto fines and lane management. I would love if it was agreed to do away with the lot of them and then watch the ensuing chaos.
  6. Once a month some forumites visit another local pub - usually about 20-30 of us turn up, with 3 or 4 first timers usually braving the regulars - next Friday we are at the Duke see here
  7. Its going to be plenty busy next friday. . Come along
  8. Given (y)our job AcedOut, I imagine anyone suggesting those controls a couple of years ago would have been given short shrift n'est pas? When times are good, no-one is allowed to say "hang on a minute, is this wise?" Anyone who does is told "hush, this is different to the last boom - we won't crash again"
  9. Sorry Admin - posted that last without seeing your warning
  10. Wondered if you'd pick up on that AO! I'm not anti either - as such. I am anti unrestrained capitalism. Doesn't make me a commie or anything but I am uncomfortable with the way large companies infiltrate every aspect of our lives. I'm not against anyone making money but I am against the arrogance that comes with too much money A petty example - sponsors dictating not just what can be sold at sports stadiums but what can actually be worn and consumed - anyone remember the dutch fans who all had to take off their trousers before they could watch the game? They had taken to wearing these orange trousers as part of supporting Holland but when Fifa saw they had a different sponsor's name on them they forced the fans to leave or take trousers off - What irks me most is that it has become "Weird" to even question companies when they throw their weight around like this Of course there are much more powerful and scary reasons for my suspicion of too much power but I'll come back to them another time
  11. Go on then, I'll bite... Given that many of these posters (safe to include me in that group have been around since close to the beginning of the forum what would you have us do? Leave? The rest of your statement is just rash over-generalisation LIberal bourgoise = lazy and clich?d right-wing accusation - what does it MEAN? Anti chain? Usually - but I can put a pretty good argument as to why? But it's not a cast-iron rule. Anti consumer? What does that even mean? We are all consumers surely. But I am against a pound sign on every single thing on the planet yes. Is that bad? Anti anything populist? Good luck coming up with evidence of that - ANYTHING??? As for not everyone having the "luxury" of internet access and the time to access it regularly.... hmmm - not sure i agree with that. I would argue that some people use the internet for other uses than others. It reminds me of the bitching when that woman won the million quid on Who Want To Be a MIllionaire - she was already well off why couldn't someone poor have won it? Well she was well off partly because she did things like read, travel, digest information etc... DOes that make her elitist? Patronising?
  12. Is it me or is this thread starting to resemble the Reiki share thread?
  13. She broke my heart .... I hear where Cassius is coming from- but I'm trying to be fair to the bar itself rather than answer "is it for me?" I think it will do well - but it ain't for me - esp. on a busy night. But then that is true of all the bars on LL
  14. By God things were bad around 8pm last night - 3 posts in a row quids? What Moos said basically. But I never understand why some people give it the "us law-abiding decent people v those dodgy criminals" spiel - the whole point about genuine dodgy criminals is ... duh... they are playing outside the rules. To say they are "ignored" is absolute rubbish -based on what? Yeah they are obvious to spot on a day to day basis but do you really think they get away with it for ever.... And if you purport to be one of the Good Guys then you should make an effort to live up to it. It's why Tony Blair bugged me so much!
  15. Good to see people still making the effort Citizen... obviously I'm drawn more to Blue than Sunshine.. but are you sure Tubthumping belongs in Sunshine? A misunderstood song if ever there was one...
  16. And it's not just Stella - most beers (Red Stripe fan myself) manage 6 for a fiver (call it ?5:50 of late) When I first lived in London in 1990 it was about the same - and people moan about inflation....
  17. I'm less and less comfortable with people posting potentially libellous statements re: some businesses. Unless someone can prove Somerfields are complicit in the cloning activities (as opposed to it possibly happening there) then they would be within their rights to "take action"
  18. Mikese22 - spot on all around. Thought I had written that for a minute Another vote for Liqourish cocktails afterwards... Plus I got to see Monica with her hair down (briefly)
  19. Bossman Wines? Green & Blue? Nicolas? Any supermarket if you want 3 for a tenner type deals? All within 30 yards of Threshers - why so attached to that place if I may be so bold?
  20. Well said AcedOut Not sure the value of any poll (even if it's viable) - these teams hit an area and then move on as I understand itm using teh details in subsequent months - everyone who has been hit in the last couple of weeks and says "and I used it in ..." is probably adding 2+2 and getting 5 IMO
  21. and there we have it - advice from one pub to another....
  22. Careful - I used to get in trouble for saying "we" as in "we on the forum - all of us!".
  23. that and the fact that different companies have different shareholders and obligations to turn profits - if a cable company has just spent x million on a project and unable to undertake upgrade y for 6 months, that isn't going to hold up outstanding water repairs for example
  24. "You know you don't want to make bread, milk cows, grow wheat, build houses, make carpets EVERY SINGLE TIME?? Well, let us do it for you and we can then let you have them - for a mutually convenient fee" There - that's not so bad an idea is it?
  25. "I refuse to go to jail for this burglary. There was no-one in the house, no-one was hurt and they are absolutely loaded so they won't suffer in any way at all. I'm just warning others that teh police are about in this Big Brother society so be careful if you go on the rob!"
