  1. Morning chichi - a similar discussion has been had on the Magdala thread Sport in ED - where? The times I have seen sport in FHT they didn't bother with the sound and had music playing over the speakers - which is my LEAST favourite way to watch sport. CPT is best bet for me at the mo.
  2. Singapore time darling Kel, Singapore time.. Interesting that so many Greens are turning to nuclear as the only realistic option for energy sources. Personally I think it's a wonderfully convenient and lazy option which our children (and our children's children etc etc etc) will pay teh price for - but I can see why it's attractive. A couple of days with the lights off might concentrate the minds wonderfully. I just do not believe that the combined minds and resources we as a species can not develop power from a combination of wind, sun and sea. I'm aware of all the current "challenges" but it's still a better bet than nuclear power. I'm not against the science behind it - I just don't believe we are able to deal with the byproducts or the logistics of keeping plants safe
  3. besty - sorry to hear about your problem and welcome to EDF but: Again, I don't think this is an allegation anyone can make - you might think the card was cloned there somehow but that doesn't mean Somerfield "did it"
  4. Hardest pub quiz is the CPT on Wednesdays (although not 100% it's still going after recent makeover)
  5. Castle Nuns Head
  6. indeed - IF they get the displaced customers
  7. not just gentrification behind pubs ditching TV's - Sky charging astronomical fees plays a massive part as well
  8. it's not as immediate as 24 - but 10 times better
  9. If I had to pick one, it would be stading in the middle of Rye park, watching red double decker buses go past the large houses on a crisp Autumn day But I also get a kick out of the bus going around Goose Green roundabout, travelling from town - esp. after a trip away Turning on to the top of Friern Rd and seeing the city in the distance (not escpecially grand but tied in with arriving in the area) The curve of Lordship Lane away from Goose Green with the bustle of people on the pavement (actually, that one reminds me I might have said all this in a similar thread about a year ago!)
  10. on honeymoon????
  11. I've had tea and scones there a few times -a little treat if I happen to be off mid-week. There is no way I would ever go to a place like that and order anything without checking the menu for prices first - it surely isn't asking too much for people to take responsibility for that is it? Of course ?21 is a ridiculous amount to pay for some ice cream and tea - but that is entirely the perogative of any business to charge what they will. It's up to us to make the informed choice thereafter
  12. How about this for a Wire-fest? All of Series 5 shown on a cinema screen over 2 days, with appearances from several cast and writers Wire Weekend Just 3 or 4 episodes ever left for me after watching 3 eps of series 5 yesterday
  13. Consider my cap doffed in your direction young Hugo... splendid post I read about the experiment some weeks back and meant to follow it up - it is exciting stuff (but one does feel a tinge of what Asset posted about - especially if one was raised on a diet of science fiction as a nipper)
  14. hmmmm - I wonder what today's topic of conversation is going to be...
  15. if requested by the Original Poster then I think that's fair enough I don't think any topic is off-limits so no expression of freedom is stifled - eg in the Somerfields debate I imagine we are free to bang on about the merits of "justice" as much as we like if we start another thread on that topic. But I can't see anything else being added to that debate so I sure as hell am not going to start it [ lock request ] ;-)
  16. After you didn't come to the forum drinks at the fourth time of asking I was so over you... After the Somerfield staff thread I may have even considered litigation Instead I spend my time hanging with Rodney King talking about Officer Koon and concepts such as irony ...
  17. And me. Oh. . . Apart from that one time when they were a bit ditzy. But overall a good success rate
  18. Because when it were a few quid cheaper, louisa was ALWAYS in there. .
  19. Are you really telling people to shut up louisa? Or have you finally found a way to stick your tongue in your cheek?
  20. Working class my arse. No class has a monopoly on rights and wrongs. But the working class of all people should be aware of allowing power to be unchecked. Only an idiot assumes aggression by authorities is always because someone did something wrong. Plenty of working class people have been fitted up in this country. How are posters on here giving criminals an upper hand? Crime. . Catch. Trial. Judgement. Anything else is just mob rule.
  21. Re black and blue. Ill second them! Bit of a mini chain but fantastic steaks. Over loud acoustics tho. Si mangia i have never understood. Pleasant staff and company every time i go but never enjoyed the food. Best pizza is gowlett obviously. By miles.
  22. Just please stop louisa. I repeat no one on here is saying how the criminal was in the right. Apart from snorky. Who. . Unless im mistaken is no middle class elitist. So stop. Saying. It ! Please This whole debate has been debased by your false accusations and twisting of arguments. Not to mention playing the class card. Predictably. You are correct about one thing. None of us are in full possession of the facts. Ergo we rely on the law of the land.
  23. Oh this is just bollocks now The quote from james pulled out by tony is so wrong its untrue. Massive generalisation masquerading as fact. And then tony piles in with his generalisation. It is not invariable tony ok? I have been burgled and attacked. People are using this to do the usual trotting out of phrases like politically correct and liberal when it has no meaning. No one is defending the criminals actions. No one. Why cant people like tony and louisa accept that? Why oh why etc etc But yes. . If we cant expect those charged with upholding the law to uphold the law where does that leave us? Lets debate this but no facts and not no hobby horses please. .
  24. oops - part 4 cross-posted wiv Keef
  25. Probably the most pointless post I'll ever make (and that's saying something) - pointless for the reason that those I'm arguing with appear to be beyond the simplest of arguments, lacking all perspective and narrowing their focus down to such fine detail that all meaning is lost, and yet the keep tugging away like a dog with it's teeth wrapped around a leg The first thing that annoys me is when anyone adopts an "unlike most of you ANY NORMAL RATIONAL PERSON would...." - the audacity of telling me that I lack normality or reason is enough to make me abandon both and administer some swift justice of my own Second is this idea that, once again, London has gone to the dogs compared with days of yore - it's an argument that has been dealt with before but, in short, if you think London has always or even ever been a place of tranquility you are beyond help. And if there ever was a time when for a short spell it appeared that way, the rest of the social mores that kept it that way would be unnaceptable to even those nostalgiaist Thirdly - do-gooding as a bad thing. This whole idea that "if's" and "buts" are the root of crime - pathetic. Do-gooders and saying if and but are what got you the vote for example Louisa. Then again I suspect you dismiss the idea of democracy we live in and long for the kind of country that is able to mete out a swift kicking to any transgressor. Those countries exist. Good luck with your femininity, boozing and vibrators in those countries Fourthly - the idea that those of us arguing against the actions of the security guards are somehow on the side of the criminal. If those criminals have no respect for my beliefs I'm hardly surprised - they don't have any for yours either. What bothers me is not the criminal but how the rest of "us" conduct ourselves. There is a sense that, whatever the reasons behind the kicking, some people like violence for it's own sake. Possibly because they were brutalised when they were young themselves who knows. Still, anyone who has ever said "did no harm to me" in my company is usually living proof that it did. Security Guards are there to prevent crime and detain those who break the law - they are behaving criminally themselves otherwise. This they know when they take the job - no point crying "foul" afterwards. There is loads more "wrong" with some of what's been said but as this is already a pointless post I'll stop there
