Next Forum Drinks - Friday 12th October at the George Canning
SeanMacGabhann replied to georgia's topic in The Lounge
It might be someones birthday 3 days later but dont tell alan -
I was so going to start a thread like this. . But didnt actually want to be the one. Cheers piers! im liking the odd session on space giraffe at the mo. Surely not even jah has had such a trippy experience
-
lol umm - no. I have been twice and had a lovely time on both occasions. Going back to the original post I'm almost certain it was a misinterpretation by a new employee (similar to the water incident at G&B a while back) Interesting post from Domitianus as well re: the Sunday roast and the kids.... I think that's what people should aspire to rather than the either/or scenarios some people favour.

John?? Who is this "John" you speak of Louisa?
-
There was a book??? of Deathproof?
-
any chance of getting this back on topic lest it be lounged? (entertaining tho it is.. Sort of.... )
-
Oh Lord I know what you mean - although I was more alarmed when I was sober - by the time I was gone I barely noticed them
-
lozzyloz - Alan may well be cynical but more than that he is a wind-up merchant par excellence You make almost the exact points I was about to make but It's probably futile Oh well - I'm here now so... it should be noted that for some people "organic" IS just a brand - they could no more explain the merest iota of the principles behind it than ... oooh let's say Jordan. Obviously that doesn't make it a brand I have said many times that I'm not an organic-nazi and will easily stick some spuds from any old shop into the cupboard but comparing the organic movement to (say) aromatherapy is just nonsense. By buying organic spuds, I wouldn't be boiling them, throwing the spuds themselves away, diluting the leftover water, drinking it and claiming I was now full

I'd say Jah is about right with 60 or 70 - quite a few crowd-refreshes tho so it may be a bit higher - at any given point, just standing in the room I counted 30-40, add in the significant smoking contingent* plus those people who came and left early or arrived late and I'd say 70-80 maybe? Ultraconsultancy, firstly t'was great to meet you on Friday. Secondly I did nothing of the sort but instead spent my teens/20s in rural Ireland and then middle-England devouring the 3 main music weeklys plus whatever monthly variant came out. Jah started to speak to me about music at one point on Friday but I sort of moved away from the subject because I feared I would bore the bejasus out of him ... As is evident from my forum use, when I get into something it veers towards the "heavy" * on the smoking note, I'm not sure what the smokers think but if that room had us in it when smoking was allowed it would have been hell up there

Blimey lozzyloz.... looks like you have the gift of foresight!

I'll probably not be at the next drinks - travel commitments..... so I won't push for any pub in particular. You'll all have a ball anyway whichever one you pick. -
Amazed that Jah and Keef haven't responded to this yet.... bonus for me is I've only just figured out IIRC after all these years. I know I could have looked it up but I just thought I'd wait for the day when it clicked...

New Chandelier Tea shop is open....
SeanMacGabhann replied to ednerd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Now now... it's not big or clever to go offending people needlessly - and re-reading the post I could have phrased it better - Tazzi is relatively new to these shores after all. But thanks for the parental advice as well AD ;-) -
hush Jah - you're a fine figure of a man and have no need of such dishonest behaviour!

Hi Georgia - welcome back Venues for next drinks: ok, in SE22 we haven't (to my knowledge) been to - Inside 72 - to small Forest Hill Tavern The Herne The Green EDT Black Cherry (see Inside 72) Bishop Palmerston Liqourice Castle quite a few contenders just outside the postcode too - Canning, Bar Story, Rye, the Hob, Page 2, Nuns Head (which would get my vote if we step outside the area) -

sorry Ganapati... sometimes I need to vent. One of the reasons I was attracted to this forum (rather than, say.... the lordshiplane.co.uk one ) was the relative absence of professional moaners. That's not a slight on that particular site, but it permits anonymous postings so.. you know... Lady MacGabhann is far more used to it (my rantings) than most people on here but I can let fly when the occasion calls ;-) You're lovely tho (tu) -
What with one reason and another I have ended up in the Montpelier 2 days running. I have good things to say so am posting them (unlike bad things to say which I try not to - let's just say the bad things refer to something new and Italian in another part of town) My original posting about them being open-but-only-just was at least good enough to make me want to try again. This place is not that local to me but I am in Peckham more weekends than not, and i often end up in the Rye or Bar Story so this place deserves an equal chance Most of my initial reservations have been sorted - entrances can sometimes still be overwhelming -"are you eating?? would you like a table??" etc x 2 but the staff are genuinely lovely and really look after you/one (delete to taste) - but apart from that service/ambience are spot on (Sat and Sun afternoon anyway) Food follows a slightly depressing familiar route (see posts passim) but with a slightly more adventurous sea-food bent - that said it's quality stuff (burger buns excluded on personal taste grounds - not bad, far from it, just wrong for burgers... some sort of sour-doughy, chewy business) and the Sunday roasts are pretty darn fine I like this place - good on 'em I say

oooh if this weren't already lounged we would be in trouble. Montplier review? Top idea.. let me find the relevant thread

and what you appear to want is to play with the font controls available... Kids can get on my wick big time but the sort of thing: is: a) exaggerated b) pompous 3) pointless "it's my right" my a... foot. get over yourself. As has been pointed out many a time - this particular place has an upstairs without any "nappy valley" infection. Both sides happy.. 'kay??? I don't want kids but I'm beginning to think I'll have some JUST to hack some people off... -
Has anyone used Foxtons introduction 0% sale fee (Lounged)
SeanMacGabhann replied to rogertebbutt5k's topic in The Lounge
Nero, for that post alone I love you... (not that your others don't count etc) There are some genuine, honest to goodness reasons to be bothered about the advent of the Foxtonista chain - but let's not blow things out out of proportion. A street already blessed with a plethora of gor-blimey-good-as-gold-look -after-me-mum-old-fashioned estate agents is augmented by an estate agent which has the audacity to take over a "beautiful" "heritage-listed" building, ride rough-shod over the planning regulations and install a modern frontage - let's all man the barricades Ok ok - they aren't helping business rent/rates in the area and certain landlords are rubbing their hands - and as someone who knows personally the damage done to independent businesses by aforementioned landlords I have no desire to see their hand strengthened.. but my honest opinion is that, ultimately, Foxtons have taken on a never-likely-to-be-bettered corner of LL, installed something useful (ish) and tarted the place up a bit. If they go out of business tomorrow (which they won't, what with all the local people in there giving them business) and even if the recession hits.. come a few years down the line a much more attractive premises is available for a new opportunity... -
oooh I did..
