  1. result! I can't watch the clips at work either so had to hope
  2. Did you really trudge through that?? Bleedin snipers Or are you just paraphrasing The Streets and quoting Ferris at the same time?
  3. Thought I had posted a reply to Rosie earlier but it doesn't seem to be here - ah well Rosie - what about the end of Series 3 eh? but careful of spoilers -
  4. Keef - is this it? Box of Delights
  5. I didn't see either but the papers seem to be giving Liverpool a lot more credit than Chelsea... That Pennant will never grow up will he?
  6. Good to see so many people start to take this one on - I totally sympathise with anyone who remains flummoxed by over-enthusiastic supporters such as me.. but slow burn doesn't begin to do justice. With each successive season finale, the emotional punch gets heavier I also hope no-one thinks I have gone off the Sopranos! I would disagree that Sopranos is funnier - more consistently light-hearted maybe but (given it's subject matter - another debate I need to have with MP!) the laugh-out-loud count remains higher for me with The Wire
  7. Asset - you're spot on. And I was going to post the same and the caught myself and thought "ah hang on it is satire" I know some people do think all sausages are the same but that's demonstrably false - and if you buy sausages in the LL butchers you are guaranteed a) pretty cheap b) no fancy bag whatsoever - a little old fashioned wrapping paper in my experience
  8. Well, The Administrator may disagree Keef, but it's not the free advertising that bothers me You are right the pubs do it all the time but the difference they come on and say "I'm The Pub Landlord and ACME pub and we have a smashing new TV installed - come along why don't ye" Good clean honest and direct If the same landlord went down the route of "let's register as SeanyMac, and say how amazing the food is in the NTV, everyone will think I'm a genuine person and they will come flocking" That's just flaky behaviour IMO
  9. Ted is that one of dem there tongue-in-cheek posts?
  10. Sophie - tis indeed a shame. But the honest truth is such incidents have happened numerous times on here and have been proved to be so.. unfortunately the shame is, as Bowie once sang, on the other side ;-) The tell tale signs are usually the combination of: first time post exuberant praise for a local business pointing out location and upcoming special offers etc All of which were in your post unfortunately so, yes the experience has been to be suspicious of such posts. But like most of say, we like the place anyway. And we're glad you're here and look forward to hearing your views on other local establishments.
  11. and not wishing to rebuff such camraderie, we are veering off topic (ahem) Sophie - does the bookshop have any plans to expand to be more than just a childrens bookshop? There has been a big long thread about Chener's (faaar too long in fact) but although I am fond of the place in a way, it's not perfect and could do with some competition
  12. ben - applaud you on the good practice of starting a thread that emerges on another thread. If only more of us were so switched on... I used to look enviously at the Kennedy shops before ED has a couple of butchers but I can't fill in any details on teh company. I have stopped in at the Walworth Rd one once or twice and IMO the place seems to be a little less authentic than it once was - more greggs-style snacks than previously
  13. oooh don't get me wrong downsouth - I like the shop itself and If I was a kid or had kids I imagine I'd be in there all the time... just wish people would be more upfront
  14. Don't remember that one Nero - but I was a big fan of Rhoda back in the day. What a voice
  15. fonson - good shout on Hill St Blues - one of the first shows where I realised not everything had to be fluffy entertaining on another nostalgic note re: Dallas and Dynasty - my parents were soooo particular about making sure us kids never saw them I was convinced after several years that if I ever did see one it would be so full of outrageous nudity I would be a very happy boy How disappointed I was...
  16. you'd be surprised how cheap they are in ******* **** butchers on LL Louisa... ;-)
  17. funnily enough I was going to post a reply earlier saying at last, a nice happy uncynical post... and then I thought hang on... first time poster plugging a local business, we've been here before Then I felt bad for being so suspicious... but I think you may be right Asset Sophie - with all due apologies if you have no connection to the shop!
  18. Anyone go to the David Sylvian gigs at the RFH this week? - I couldn't get tickets :(
  19. I know what you mean Tillie and initially I agreed but then again it's not inconceivable that Foxton's nervous competitors might try to do a bit of mud-slinging is it? I should point out I'm not accusing Spangles of doing it - but it's possible to imagine it being done by someone so Louisa's cynicism is not as outlandish as it usually is That said I understand there was a happy end to this particular story...
  20. Not sure who that third party is but we Soprano fans have had 6 + seasons - I'm willing to bet the non-plussed Wire viewer barely got past season 1... (I could be wrong of course) By end of season 3, even allowing for different folks and all that, I cannot believe anyone would think Sopranos better..
  21. Collective action saves the day - yay us
  22. Thats exactly how i felt afterwards blinder. . Dec 4th for series 4 on dvd
  23. Yep - I've got my half hour sorted already (tu)
  24. I think comparatively ED IS overpriced but I can see why it is more expensive than other areas within a short distance and it has nothing to do with the price of bricks and mortar "ultra capitalists" may struggle with the concept but there is an intangible difference to the area - a buzz, an atmosphere, a (with apologies to The Castle movie) "vibe" The shops and bars are a result of that, not the cause of it This forum is another example of it - surrounding areas have similar forums but they don't seem to have the same ooomph That is why I like living here despite my cramped conditions...
  25. Nice thought Ben but I'd wager Mr Palaeologus doesn't venture into this room too often (just a hunch)
