Jah - re: what we should drink our pint in. Obviously we should drink our pints in the CPT measurements - hmmm - I'm biased towards metric but have a few remnants from imperial. A pint is obviously important but even that has become slightly inadequate so a Litre glass doesn't sound so bad

Some ace ideas on here - would that any of us had the gumption to attempt it Keef - I'm dead jealous you played the Grand, but good insight On the live music tip, The Hob (opposite Forest Hill station) where ED Comedy resides is undergoing a refurb to proper "theatre" spec..but they are avid music fans and have music downstairs at the mo - I wonder if they will open up the theatre to bands as well?
-
The papers are going to go ape over the English result - possibly justifiable but the Scottish result is the stand-out for me.. congrats Republic deserve everything they get after 2 pretty awful performances

Aren't predictions in another thread - or should we merge? Anyway - I want to echo Jah and Mockney's denunciation of that.... man. Occasionaly he comes up with something I can agree with but saying without the corporate seats yadda yadda we wouldn't have a new Wembley. I believe his statement is true as far as it goes.. so the choice is - Would fans rather the old Wembley (absolute dive that it was) or the new Wembley (where if they can;t get tickets to sold out games, there are always empty boxes) I wouldn't mind (as much) the corporate boxes if they treated the evening like fans (Annasfield seems to have the right idea - yes it;s a corporate perk but darned if I'll miss any of the action - tell me that is true Anna!) But if it;s a Wimbledon Centre Court ticket, a Wembley ticket, whatever - if you can't be arsed to watch the event you are a parasite not a benefactor. Without the event there is no you there so at least have the (here's that word again) humility to understand why and how you got there

South London just doesn't fare well with music venues that would attract decent bands. If, by decent, you mean pulling crowds of hundreds rather than dozens When teh Mean Fiddler org was in it's pomp and owned most of the small to mid-level venues in London they bought The Clapham Grand and REALLY pushed it - but without a tube people just don't do it enough sadly Even if all that didn't matter, physically there is nowhere suitable is there? What was the Odeon site possibly but that's too late This is all toying with my drams anyway - stop it. The thought of a venue where I didn't have to travel miles home afterwards is too much
-
please tell me that was sarcastic?
-
it is *pretty* much the same, surely? Can't see the pic so if it shows it not on the yellow line, apologies. But apart from that I'm not sure what the problem is ?

och - everyone has done that by age 14 surely?

Traffic Lights @ Forest Hill Road
SeanMacGabhann replied to Mrs Y's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
my forecast is that lights will be phased out or properly phased LONG before then -
The company I work for has several offices in and around Wall St so I knew at least half a dozen people well enough to be seriously concerned for their welfare (apart from the general tragedy itself) so levity didn't come into it on the day and everyone from the company made it safely home (eventually)

It's the CPT - let's keep in in the main forum if we can people!
-
it is kinda goosebumpy but to be honest I don't appear to get quite as worked up as most people do about it. The attack itself was shocking in many many ways but had the buildings stayed up I don't think the world would have gone as bonkers as it did in the following years (sorry - was that a political intrusion on what is a reminiscing thread?)
-
TO be fair to Alan, I know what he is talking about. Most of us use it as today's excuse for a boozeathon but one or two people I know (including family members) really do take it upon themselves to grab a moment in the spotlight (which is ok) but make everyone feel like sh one t if they don't reeeally put themselves out (not so good)
-
Not long before I was inside the building itself buying tickets for some play or other... On the day itself I was working in The City - still remember the clear skys as I went out for lunch and caught sight of a plane sticking out of a building. I thought it a bizzare accident - 30 mins later when I got back the whole world had changed. I was told A few years ago I was working in Jersey City and got the PATH train right to the site - very odd looking out of the windows as we pulled in to see ground zero feet from the windows

anyone here NOT know where this is going???
-
tis ok Brendan - I had an idea where you were coming from The problem is reasonably complex (physical capcity against social expectations) but to take your 1 car per family idea (and bear with me if people have heard this before) take a quietish street - let's say Goodrich Rd. Park 1 car outside each house and the road is full. Problem is the houses have more than 1 family in them (oftentimes) - some of the houses may be actually 4 flats. Tot that up along the whole road and already it has exceeded any possible limit What then?
-
Brendan - where are thou? Even if households limited the amount of cars to just one (and many don't) but let's say they did.. that wouldn't allow that volume of cars to travel freely around a city the size of London (parking capacity is not the same as road capacity) People are being discouraged from using a car and in the long term that won't be seen as the zany idea it is now Plus "everywhere else" in the world haven't got their heads around it (in the sense you mean anyway) - most desnsley populated cities have higher density living accomodation, and fewer car spaces Cities that are car-dependant (hello LA) have the joy of nose-to-tail jams on the freeway as an accepted part of their day

Foxtons windows, does it have planning permission
SeanMacGabhann replied to monica's topic in The Lounge
I can only endorse Marmora Man's view Foxton's themselves have been discussed to death on here and I'm not especially chuffed. But I can hardly believe anyone would want to retain that old building in any shape or form. The Foxtons on Essex Rd for example is a pretty sleek number -
Child-free pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants?
SeanMacGabhann replied to Domitianus's topic in The Lounge
moved to The Lounge as the topic has moved away from ED specific issues and has returned (once again) to familiar class/yummy mummy yakkery (entertaining tho it may be) -
Water main works in Lordship Lane
SeanMacGabhann replied to Townleygreen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Superior how? They started a week late which considering the size of the works and how many other parties are likely to be affected and petitioned for it to not happen is pretty good IMO To be honest whenever I see any notifications like that I don't pen the dates in the diary - I make a rough note of how long the period is, double it and add some bonus weeks either side to be safe. -
If East Dulwich Angst is correct I know which game I'm watching! (3-2 indeed)....

Water main works in Lordship Lane
SeanMacGabhann replied to Townleygreen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are yellow announcement signs all along LL and have been for weeks if not months Does no-one see them? No wonder people complain about council tax being wasted if the council take the time to put signs up in fluorescent yellow and still people only notice when the traffic is backed up! -
Building work opposite Plough DIY
SeanMacGabhann replied to Goodliz's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Good synopsis Ant Re: M&S - It has been confirmed that they are NOT opening here so please let us hear no more I too like and patronise many of the shops this end - a bit of spit and polish wouldn't go amiss tho -
Child-free pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants?
SeanMacGabhann replied to Domitianus's topic in The Lounge
Is this thread still about ED specifically or have we wandered off the path and headed for the lounge? Enquiring administrators want to know...
