  1. Sorry Alan - just caught up with this Do I really want to get into a big conversation about this?? It's certainly up my alley but for now I'll have to take a raincheck I'm sure we shall resume it at a later date tho!
  2. Thoroughly enjoyed meself - I used to go to the regular quiz here a lot until I realised it were too hard for me but Keef and Matt did a sterling job Our team finished 2nd (late rally) and can confirm we got sweet FA help from our forumite hosts (although a Tatu question was easily answered by anyone following the music thread) Ant & I were joined belatedly by AndrewDBlack and a newbie to the area Rob. Scottish Rob I believe... You ladies were missed however By the the time Keef and Matt got to sit down and have a chat it was nearly midnight and I had to leave infortunately... but well done lads
  3. now now ladies you know which thread to go to if you want to know...
  4. I would add that the slight extra wait going up to Borough station before changing is worth it to avoid the hell that is trekking around E&C tube station however....
  5. You are so easy to tease Alan By "your current guise" I meant the one in this thread which is fairly fixed on an "all profit= a good thing" shtick regardless of source (in this case housing) I am generalizing for effect and I mentioned "in this guise" here because we are so obviously opposed on this point. On other threads however I think you seem a splendid fellow (with the possible exception of the pooch thread - my memory is hazy on that one I will need to check) I still need to rethink my phrasing however if Madworld74 thinks I am not a "Foxtons loathing tenant"
  6. Its all getting very confusing nest pas. My drinks reference mad world was indeed about the fact i would rather drink with any one who was not obsessed with house prices. Ie the opposite of alan in his current guise. But he is wrong about me being against owning either. I just wish rents and mortgages were not constantly being driven up by greed. im rather horrified you might have thought i meant you mad world
  7. The 40 bus, frankly, rocks Although for some reason it went off on one around Camberwell today, up past Kennington instead of Walworth Rd It would delay anyone's journey from Ed to Old St ! (staying on topic)
  8. I intend to get a dog just to meet you Alan ;-)
  9. Ahhh - I should point out at this stage (and Georgia will back me up) that I will always buy you a drink and lovingly embrace my fellow forumites in the wild - However, I too get on at the first stop and at best will manage a wan smile should you encounter me on the bus - don't take it personal like I shall extol the bus/walk combo at length later this evening I fear..
  10. As a "protected" employee can I ask people to post who the links are to (a la Piers and Louisiana) so I at least get a flavour of what's being listened to? Go raibh mile maith agaibh
  11. Good post PP Alan - at first I thought you had the horse before the cart - but upon re-reading, your version will do You could always prove me wrong of course at the next forum drink up?
  12. And twas busy back then I am long past the "feeling I am forced to take the lesser option" - by now if a journey requires a tube or train I get frustrated at lack of leg-stretching opportunity
  13. Domitianus doth taketh the weeeeeeee methinks
  14. Tis true Ant - I feel bad for naming some and not naming others (yourself included) even if I did include a caveat. I can still feel my ears burning from Georgia's glare And thanks giddygecko for the kind words - I do feel bad about pointing out you mispelled the sentence about bagpuss. Hottie is spelt h.o.t.t.i.e
  15. Bleedin' firewalls at work! Me can no see any pictures.. But words speak volumes and not only does it sound like a great day but isn't it nice to have a local community wishing someone so well too I'm welling up now..
  16. We can call you Joey Tribiani for one night only TT
  17. I always knew you were a blow-in Louisa ;-) I think I was at the Gort festival last year (by chance, driving through) Unfortunately (as an Irishman) your questioon about what is Irish has painful resonance for me - it's a question which is far too quickly answered by Irish people who, despite years of living abroad, don't always take kindly to people living in Ireland (but I applaud your sentiments)
  18. Tis true that weather like this will seem more pleasant - but I've been doing it for years and it really becomes quite ok in any weather - brolly in one handm pod in the other
  19. I know which of the people on this thread - on a purely humanitarian level - I would rather have round for a drink - next drink up could be interesting
  20. Is it too late to echo the earlier recommendation - 40 to London Bridge (or even further towards Aldgate) and maybe a 15-20 minute walk I honestly think walking is far preferable than waiting for ANOTHER bus and youget a good head of steam up which relieves tension. I have worked around that area many a time since moving to ED and would always take that route
  21. one less drink I have to buy then tonight isn't it sweetie B)
  22. Looks like a good little team forming certainly Tillie and I are up bright and early in prep
  23. I've seen that Keef walking around the area. Drinks in CPT apparently He is the most famous resident round here at the mo methinks
  24. Like you wouldn't be there anyway bagpuss ;-) Andrew - see you there as well J
  25. Cant agree with you on the nurse v commodity trader. The former would exist if the later never did. by all means buy a house and do it up As you see fit. Its just recently that that is seen as investing all im after is a more level playing field. Its not difficult to see how that might be achieved. But dont fret. I wont do anything and the government wont do anything. It will correct itself. Shame we cant be proactive and ease the pain first
