I remember first hearing about podcasts and thinking "that's not going to be something I'll faff around with" Was I ever so young???

I won't be watching it either (partly because of the ghoulish nature and partly because it contains the word "Diana") Channel 4 know how facile they are in their defence of the programme and is just par for the course for them lately, mores the pity And yet I won't be complaining. Apart from not complaining about something I haven't seen, one doesn't have to be sentimental to remember just what a publicist Di was and how cameras were ALWAYS around her. I'm not saying she was bound to die like this but all the elements were in place long before it happened The difference between broadcasting these images and, say, those far more repugnant suggested by Huguenot , is surely that innocents are MADE to suffer for the latter whilst the broadcast of the Di images is something that just happened and is being exploited by Ch4... We routinely watch documentaries about the holocaust and see humans in far more degraded states but that qualifies as history and switchboards remain quiet. I would argue that is a more apt comparison As for comparing it to pictures of my mum (or anyone else's on here) - that;s just not going to happen is it. It's happening here because of who she was and what she did in her life re: publicity. I repeat; that still doesn't make CH 4 right to show them but it is a different situation to some of the comparisons made above

It's a great book, and quite different to both his other novels. Books by comedians don't rate very well but that is an exception His erstwhile comic partner David Baddiel wrote a couple of very so-what novels before writing a fanrastic book based upon his families experience as Jewish refugees unwanted by Britain as the 2nd world war came to pass

The new look Forest Hill Tavern (II)
SeanMacGabhann replied to serenity's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Serenity Are you connected with the FHT? No problem if you are it's just all your posts are about the FHT and it would be far better to be honest and say that as a regular/worker/manager/owner you would like to reply to any criticism by saying..... whatever I've been and quite liked it. I'll be back for sure and bring some friends. But it is fresh-as-a-daisy new and hasn't yet developed much character - but thats ok, that's how most pubs start especially avert a refurb, so AnotherPaul has a point as far as it goes. I thought the staff were great, the beers were good (then again I am lager boy) and the atmosphere buzzy (if a bit transient as people came to check it out before decided if it would become a regular haunt) As for criticizing the FHT nomenclature - well I understand the desire to break from the past whilst retaining a link and the old initial trick has been a popular tactic. I believe the OED got in on the act. But people have been doing it for years and it's a bit "done" and a bit safe. Perhaps the point AP is making is that to show how fresh the refurb is, a more original name could have been found. At this point I come unstuck because I'm not sure what I would choose so I hold my hands up - but you can kind of see the point? But I think the pub has done a great job and as I say I'll be back and if you do work there be sure and say hi next time I drop in Edited for this PS err.. PS. Taking a shot at the Gowlett was a bit unnecessary. A fine pub in itself, have you been and what was wrong with it? -
A serious point, self-mockery, witty off-topic replies, acceptance off same off-topic-replies, cheekiness and a sarcastic response????? Well, this thread won't go down well with SOME people! [boT] I guess it's possible the re-development hasn't finished and the greenery had to go while more robust changes were made, so perhaps they will be back soon?

Not sure I would describe it as amazing food (in fact I wouldn't - it has been adequate to really nice) but I have always enjoyed meals at Joe Allen's just off Covent Garden. Easily passed it has a nice American buzz (set up to cater for the visiting actors darling) -
Police Helicopter last night
SeanMacGabhann replied to fractionater's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I had so got used to the noise last year I hadn't even noticed they had pretty much stopped! Did I read somewhere that everyone in London thinks they always have the helicopters over thme but there is only 3 or 4 in operation? -
I know I know, I'll probably change it but I only did it yesterday and I was "in" before I realised it was using my real name I'll spend some time with it and do it properly - I can't acces it at work tho

PP Definitely agree with you on the plastic cork. Part of the wine tasting I went on went through the various types of bottle tops and the pros and cons.... very interesting indeed Back to wine - I had none last night after a successful Sunday ;-)

For August might I suggest (subject to several things, not least what it turns out like) the re-opened Plough? Although I like the thought of going elsewhere outside ED too from an interest perspective -

I can't help but feel I might be one of the "users who post about almost everything, seemingly almost non-stop" referred to in Jackangel's post. Mea Culpa on that score but I do try to avoid being Poster2 in Mark's example above From memory Jackangel I seem to remember giving you a big thumbs up after your first post - not that that means anything per se but surely it counts as giving encouragement to new posters? But it is good to hear feedback as well so I'll ponder some more -

Tried to figure it out at the time and thought similar - but 6 police cars for a nicked bike? Have checked the news all day to see what it might be but haven't come across anything so am interested if anyone knows more
