I actually spent a considerable amount of effort trying to find one of these in New York recently, but my efforts were in vain. Although admittedly I did not venture onto Coney Island (I understand nothing is open there in winter... or any time of year these days).

I agree with Asset (more or less). I wouldn't have minded so much if the original post said "middle income"... but I just think that "class" is a really outdated and irrelevant concept!

Why has "hte" or "teh" become more common? Simply because emails, internet forums, etc have become more commonplace. We used to think of any typed text as being in some way formal (some people still send me emails formatted as if they were writing a letter), but over time it has become less formal. Because of this, people will often type quickly, and "fire and forget", rather than carefully proof-reading and checking spelling and grammar. I would suggest that an email (along with SMS) has become possibly the least formal method of communiction. Also as computers, email and internet have invaded our lives more and more, people have become faster and more "ambitious" in their typing. Why do people mis-spell "the" more frequently than other words? Partly because the letters are all close together on the keyboard. And partly because it's the most common word (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_common_words_in_English) so we tend to type it in "autopilot" mode.

I want to believe that things can change. Looks like he's set to close Guantanamo Bay... to me that seems like a pretty strong statement of intent.

The very fact that there are hundreds of separate Christian sects, with their own twists and modifications to the belief system... doesn't that send any alarm bells ringing? What makes you think that your version is more "correct" in the eyes of god than any other? Regarding LegalEagle's challenge - a 10-week course is an awful long time to convince someone of something. But I would happily go to one session (provided I didn't have to pay for it) and I guarantee that there is a simple and logical counter-argument for any evidence they produce.

Me too... had some really great nights there, that was one of the best things about ED. I know the Hob isn't that far away, but it's not quite the same. Saying that, I prefer the new Magnolia to the previous bright-yellow-paint version of the Magdala.

Why is buying a house with a driveway - or creating a driveway - "private parking via the back door"? If you didn't have a drive then presumably you'd be parked on the side of the road, therefore taking up more space. I also fail to see how you'd be shafting other tax-paying motorists. The only valid arguments are the aesthetic ones, and maybe (just maybe) the water run-off issue. I know I should be ignoring your posts, but I can't help it. Must... try... harder...

*Bob* Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Dropped kerbs do take up slightly more room. How? Surely a dropped kerb is just a bit wider than the width of a car? And an average car is a lot longer than it is wide. Personally I don't really care that much if people create driveways or not. I was just pointing out that to say most new residents are doing so is obviously untrue. In a lot of roads, there isn't even enough space for a driveway.
-
So the one road ("turn right by Barclays") has a lot of driveways, so suddenly "the majority of 'new' residents to ED turned their front gardens into driveways". In fact, that's pretty much the only road I can think of where there are so many driveways. Besides, surely a dropped curb for a driveway doesn't take up any more space than parking your car in front of your house?

Are you sure people park there to catch a bus? Seems very strange. As you say, it's not as if it takes you anywhere particularly quickly. I can understand driving to a train station, but not really a bus stop.

Fry up onions with curry powder or curry paste Add can of beans Simmer until "leathery" Eat on toast, with naan bread, or on baked potato If you feel more adventurous, substitute the curry powder/paste with your own blend of spices, with fresh ginger and garlic. You could even add mushrooms or other veg. This dish just keeps on giving, really.

Mike, that other thread was "lounged" because the original poster was fraudulent, and trying to spread rumours. This thread had received some rather over-the-top (and possibly not-entirely-serious) responses, but I fail to see the similarity.

Exactly... Barrera is fighting well over his natural weight, I can only assume that he lost all his money in an icelandic bank account, and Frank has made him an offer he can't refuse. Why else would he bother fighting Khan, who is pretty much unknown anywhere except in the UK? Maybe as a tune-up or stepping stone to bigger names in the lightweight division? I fully expect Khan to lose - despite his huge physical advantage - but don't think it will shut him up. Remember, he already got KTFO in the first round, by some guy I'd never heard of. I would much rather he'd looked at the domestic scene first... fights with the likes of Murray and Thaxton would be a lot more relevant IMO.

Last week, a friend of mine was trying to tell of the exploits of Bear Grylls, but got his name wrong. He therefore proceeded to describe the time "Bear Stearns" built an igloo. Oh how we laughed.

I did have a photo, but can't find it now... one of my (very bored) friend mocked up a BBC news page telling of this humanitarian crisis. It's possibly still online somewhere.

And not particularly close. I would guess that many ED residents rarely venture up Forest Hill Road...
