  1. I think if a Waitrose was somehow able to open locally - and short of them taking over the DKH Sainsbury's I cannot see it happening - then the principal sufferer locally would be Ocado. I use Ocado for all the boring and heavy stuff which I'd otherwise have to use my car to collect. And then use local shops for meat, bread, fruit and veg etc, as basically these can all be carried home. When I fancy a Waitrose visit I just head for Beckenham.
  2. Jah gets it...Gatsby (who believed in the green light) SimonM
  3. The on dit is that they get sold cheap to local florists and greengrocers....
  4. Leeds United syndrome...big themselves up then fall out of the play-offs....B)
  5. Well clearly the sign-writing people are uncivilised language vandals and should be put up against a wall and shot!
  6. Nope
  7. Dunstans Road is now a cul-de-sac.... My favourite ED riddle: why does Dunstans Road not have an apostrophe whereas Dunstan's Grove does? (Yes, I really am this sad)
  8. >>Now, would it be mean to name this person in public?<< Only right and proper: otherwise the withering fingers of scorn may get pointed at coves totally innocent of ludicrously grandiose claims....Fair dos
  9. No
  10. >>Was this any good MP? Patricia Cornwell lost me some time ago, I liked the first three or four Scarpetta novels, but got irritated by the inane dialogue in the later ones. And as for that sodding niece of hers...<< I have got "Scarpetta" to read on holiday next month, but have to say I agree with you. I think I prefer both Kathy Reichs and Tessa Gerritsen out of that crowd, but of course our own Val McDermid really kicks ass!:)
  11. >>Thanks Simon, for letting me know how big my arse still is!:D

    Ken Loach

Yep...the characters in "Naked" were all wonderful, salt-of-the-earth types who made you proud to be a member of the human race! :))
  13. No
  14. Oh bugger! self-made man who believed in a light of a certain colour
  15. >>For example, when Doctor Beeching decimated The British Railways Network back in The 1960's and destroyed The Communities of many working-class people, who do you think sat right next to him at The Press Conference explaining and detailing how our Transport infra-structure was going to be wrecked? Who do you think aided and assisted him in this and did NOT exactly "champion" the working-class cause? Why that nice Aristocratic socialist "champion" WEDGIE!!<<< There's probably a few things that can be laid at Benn's door, but blaming him for any sort of substantial role in the Beeching Axe is pretty bizarre. It was not his decision to renege on the manifesto promise to halt the line closures - he was onlt a junior minister after all - and the whole Beeching thing had started several years previously. And using a quote by Harold Wilson, of all people, against him strikes me as being fairly counter-productive.

    Ken Loach

    >>Ken Loach, like Tony Benn, thinks all working class people are wonderful, which is:<< No he doesn't. He portrays them warts and all.
  17. Not Travis Bickle then right?
  18. Another clip (with apologies for the Godardesque hand-held camera shake...)
  19. Saturninus from "Titus Andronicus"?:)
  20. What a lazy, inaccurate piece of "journalism"
  21. It was a different era.....no "Big 4" then or zillions of ??? floating around. At the start of a season everyone could fancy their chances a little bit. But players like Charlton, Best & Law still boosted everyone's gates.
  22. I saw George Best in his pomp: and Bobby Charlton. So...yer avin' a laff right? :))
  23. What LL is really short of, Sopranos-wise, is another Badabing...somewhere me and the other made guys of the parish could hang out, like.
  24. >>What were its dying words? << To bee, or not to bee? Oh death, where is thy sting?! etc etc (sorry)
  25. Bloody hell woman I eat Shreddies for breakfast - or did until now! :X
