  1. First post yesterday around 4.30 pm for over a fortnight.
  2. My grand daughter's boyfriend completed his degree in Architecture this summer but due to the cancellation of the job fairs at University, he has not been able to link up with any architectural firms in order to do his year in industry. Does anyone know of any architect practices who would be willing to take him on either as on full or part time basis for the next year. He lives in Orpington but willing to travel. Please PM me if you can help.
  3. Try St Christopher's Furniture shop in Sydenham.
  4. The larger Boots used to sell high chairs - vaguely remember the one in the Whitgift Centre Croydon had a good selection of baby furniture. We got a very solid wooden highchair for our granddaughter from a charity shop . She later used it as a table and chair when she was about 2 years old. Also her little brother used it for a while.
  5. Dulwich Library open from today you place your returned books in a box in entrance area. You must pre order books either by phone 0207 525 4411 giving your membership (card) details. email [email protected] Library will contact you when books are in for you to collect. This will take getting used to as I normally just pick a few letters of the alphabet and go to these shelves and see what takes my fancy - this is a good way of getting to know new authors.
  6. Greenhive has been consistently good for many years - one of Anchor's homes
  7. Can I clarify - if my Dulwich based GP sends me for a routine blood test (I usually go to Dulwich) do I now go into the new health Centre?
  8. I am afraid that it is getting harder to find care/nursing homes in London and the SE in general. If person is eligible for financial assistance from social services - they will not pay for the full weekly cost of the home. It is very complicated to explain but say your mother is financially assessed to contribute ?150 pw (made up of state and occupational pension)If the local authority ceiling for all care homes is ?550 pw which means ?400 from LA and ?150 from mum. However if care home charges ?850 pw the breakdown would be ?400 LA ?150 mother, the remaining ?300 would need to be a Third Party contribution either from family members or a charity. From experience I have in the past contacted around 40 homes between Kent and Sussex on behalf of a family for their mother - the majority of them taking residents with dementia were full, those who had vacancies were in the ?1000 pw range and other would not take anyone being financially supported by social services. With many care home residents dying from covid, the vacancy situation may be better but costs may have increased due to extra finances being spent on PPE. Since the original post was earlier in the year - I assume that the situation has been solved.
  9. St Anthony's have an after school club which used to meet in the back hall of Christ Church staff collect children from school and take them to church hall. Things may have changed due to lockdown.
  10. There is an active T & RA on this estate - details usually posted up in community room.
  11. The stuff I got sent related to someone who is 'hearing' and the deaf person needs to be able to lip read i.e. Deaf person can wear mask but hearing colleagues do not have to. Will try and find original document on my computer.
  12. When we go shopping hubby and I wear visors as I have to rely on lip reading. I wear a mask when shopping alone but having a conversation with a shop assistant wearing a mask is a case of pot luck as with limited hearing I have to ask them repeatedly to speak again
  13. Please see below two Covid-19 related consultations. The first one has been jointly developed by NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group, Improving Health Limited and Quay Health Solutions. The second consultation is a school travel survey from the Highways department of Southwark Council. Capturing experiences of using Southwark primary care services during Covid 19 Covid-19 has caused changes to the way you access healthcare over the last few months and it will continue to have an impact. Doctors in Southwark are keen to know what your experience of using primary care services has been like over the last few months. What you tell us, will help us plan better for the future. Please complete this short survey www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Southwark-patient-exp-c19 to share your experiences. It closes on 8 September 2020. For more information and any questions, please email [email protected] School Travel Survey ? Travel after Covid-19 Southwark Highways department is asking all parents or carers of school-age children to respond to the new School Travel Survey. We want to know how your children get to school currently, and how that might change from September. We know there is going to be a lot of pressure on our roads and public transport network, and this will really help us judge the scale of the issue and determine what we might be able to do about it. The survey is online at www.southwark.gov.uk/schooltravel2020. Closing date: 6 September 2020
  14. Most people I know who are working from home have a work mobile phone, I have never heard of having to use your own phone. Were your employers going to pay your phone bills?
  15. My daughter who is a NHS worker states that on her ward when they had a covid patient (in a single room) they were advised not t0 spend more than 15 minutes in the room, to wash hands before and after going into room and wear mask and apron. As Penguin stated above - just walking past someone in the street is fairly risk free - less so if they are coughing and sneezing and neither of you are wearing masks .
  16. I feel that pubs should be like restaurants and have a booking system and a maximum stay time. Many restaurants if you book for say 7 pm they ask you to vacate your table by 9.15 to accommodate another sitting at 9.30 pm. Hubby wet to Plough last night and talking to bar staff was advised that they watch numbers carefully and deny people access if the place gets crowded, also with table service they only have a minimum of staff of each shift.
  17. When I was working in social services - if someone died and had no known next of kin/or next of kin with no access to finances, the local authority will take responsibility for funeral costs. Very basic coffin . I had one chap who died but his wife was sectioned under S2 in hospital and was not deemed capable to understanding the situation or to handle finances. There was a daughter (wife's daughter) who refused to get involved. We were aware this guy had some money ( a lot in cash and rest in bank) Agreement was that when someone was appointed by probate office to manage finances . LA would be reimbursed some/all of costs.
  18. According to In Health in the last few days - it is not known when the Chadwick Road clinic is open again
  19. It may be classed as a bonfire which are illegal in Southwark.
  20. I am afraid that I do not have a contact - assume that it must be environmental services.
  21. Yes we are a smoke free borough. I have a feeling that the residents in question may be new to the area - if someone can identify the location (Barry/ Plough Lane/Landells would be easier.
  22. I am with In Health as Kings outsourced it audiology services many years ago. You need a GP letter and In Health appear to provide audiology tests/batteries/ear moulds for 3 years only and you have to get a renewal latter from GP every 3 years. I tried to get an Audiology appoint just prior to Lockdown but all the clinics had closed down. I was then emailed saying that the clinic in Hornchurch Essex was open and an appointment had been made for the next day.I declined this due to distance. I emailed recently and was told that my normal clinic held in Chadwick Road was not yet opened and neither was the clinic in Streatham.
  23. Will the resident living around top end of Barry/Plough Lane/Landells Road - consider others who do not want their laundry smelling of smoke. High plumes of smoke last week for a couple of hours late afternoon (could be seen and smelt by drinkers in the Plough PH gardens)Also again yesterday around 4.30 pm but only for about an hour.
  24. A friend recently experienced Rye Lane - took a bus from Peckham to ED - almost an hour journey due to the number of cars in Consort Road and other side streets trying to to figure out the new system
  25. We also know an elderly person who until lockdown did not have a fridge or freezer. She moved into a HA flat from a private rental which had inadequate electrical sockets. She moved to the new flat with the fridge which later 'died'. despite offers of help to take her to shops to purchase new fridge. she declined as felt that since she was able to go out daily to do local shopping. It was only by chance during lockdown she commented to a sales assistant that she had neither fridge or freezer, and was immediately contacted by someone who was getting rid of a fridge freezer. This kind couple installed it in her new flat free of charge.
