Yes there is usually a paper file on wards at Kings - used as a back up to computer and for filing various test results but majority of details are now on EPR (Electronic Patient Records) which can be accessed by authorised persons.

Folk who live near the Lewisham border (Wood Vale, Sydenham Hill, Honor Oak Road, Benchley Gardens and also the New Cross end of Peckham) are frequently taken to Lewisham Hospital by ambulance rather than Kings. I was referred to Guys Hospital for a medical condition rather than Kings - as this was the area's speciality clinic. Yes I have worked in Lewisham Hospital and all ward notes are in paper files. Kings and Princess Royal and Orpington share a computerised system (same Trust)

homeless man in wheelchair living outside harvester pub
Pugwash replied to tigerranks's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
General rule for people who are homeless, that they must have a link with the borough to whom they are applying to. For many it could be a long term patient at a GP surgery. In some councils you need to be living in the area for x amount of years. You need to take proof of identity and your connection with the borough, if you are accepted on to the council register ( along with over 14,000 others) you will need to bid for accommodation (via computer). The council can refer you to a Housing Charity/Association or if need urgent can place you in temporary accommodation which could be Lewisham, Bromley, Lambeth or even further. Then if you are lucky the Housing case worker will keep in touch with you to keep you informed of permanent accommodation. Many homeless men are the product of relationship breakdowns, I have a family member who is likely to become homeless for this reason but we have offered a room to him if the situation arises. -

There are many people who are homeless but shun those who seek to help them. Many years ago through my work, I placed a medically unwell homeless man in a care home as it was winter and he was too weak to sleep out in the streets. I was working with a housing charity to find him more appropriate housing, when he left the care home and returned to the streets, preferring a life on the road. The charity had his details and kept an eye on him, but he refused all offers of accommodation. -
How to get a car moved that is over your drive??
Pugwash replied to 1st Timer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Before yellow lines were painted in front of our driveway, my daughter on a fleeing visit parked her car in front of the driveway (was only visiting for about an hour). Spotted a parking enforcement person inspecting it, we both went out to explain that I had given permission for her to be there, but he still threatened her with a ticket. She had to cut short her visit and return home. The double yellow lines were painted by the council without myself and neighbour's knowledge and are equivalent to 3 car lengths. If friends/family are visiting they have to give me a couple of hours warning so that I can reposition the car over the flower beds to accommodate their car. -
They were more than likely having a more 'social catch up. The police in Yorkshire were in the saloon bar area of the pub whilst we were in the more restaurant area - there was no way we could have listened to their conversation.

From what I gather, there are limited facilities in the Camberwell Green station for catering. On holiday once in Yorkshire we stopped at a pub in the middle of nowhere (Heartbeat Country) and found it full of police. We were informed that due to the scattered nature of the work the only way the police could get together to discuss work matters, was to meet in this pub on a regular basis for a 'working breakfast/lunch - no alcohol.

Recommendation for printer (company not device)
Pugwash replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in The Lounge
We usually have double sided A4 paper - we stopped using another supplier as they were too expensive. Card is normally double the price to purchase. We had 25th Wedding Anniversary cards printed silver on white card double sided and thought they were very reasonable compared to other companies. -

I think a Premier Inn or Travel Lodge with a small pub or restaurant attached will go down quite well

Is he politically minded? Joining a local party may help.

Quick Print just off Maxted Road - our community centre has used them for a number of years and they are always reliable and reasonably priced. -
I retired several years past my official retirement age and gave my employer 3 months notice. Right up to 3 weeks prior to my leaving date, my boss asked me to stay on due to my experience. Since retirement ages are rising more and more people will be working into their 70s. When I worked in HR - had to number all the applications that came in and short list them on the grounds of meeting the selection criteria and were not allowed to consider age, sex or ethnicity. There were times when it was essential that a particular language was needed i.e. Cantonese, Mandarin, Urdu etc but this was clear in the criteria requirement.

For those of you who could not make the meeting due to the half term holiday - we had a good meeting with Housing Association representatives. Southwark Anti Social Behavioural Unit and Southwark Mediation Service. They all spoke of their links with the police over various community issues and gave examples. Crime figures for East Dulwich were given and broken down into various categories. Discussion took place as to topics of interest which could be presented at future meetings. What Police issues would local residents like more information on i.e. traffic speed, burglaries, crime prevention, etc. Ideas either posted on forum or PM to me.

Neighbour rant! What annoys you about your neighbours?
Pugwash replied to Dbrskh's topic in The Lounge
We too have lovely neighbours both sides. One neighbour has been there over 30 years and we have seen their children grown up (as they ours) -
Want to know more about Neighbourhood policing? Concerned about crime and anti social behaviour in East Dulwich? Residents are welcomed to attend Ward Panel Meetings where local issues and crime statistics are discussed with local councillors, neighbourhood police and residents from the area. I am advised that the next Ward Panel Meeting will be held at Christ Church Barry Road 25th October 18.30 onwards. There will be 2 guest speakers - a representative from the Council's Anti Social Behavioural Unit and also a representative from a local Housing Association. The current chair of the Panel is stepping down and nominations will be accepted for a new chair. For more details please phone 0208 8721 2447 or email [email protected] Please come along to the meeting and meet members of the Safer Neighbourhood Team and to hear more about policing in East Dulwich.

City Cruises based at Westminster Bridge - we had a 3 course meal with wine whilst cruising along the Thames. Seemed expensive at first but for the length of the cruise and quality of food it was a good bargain. Great seeing all the festive lights along the river. They also have a small disco after the meal is served which some of our team were delighted with.

Police will not investigate Shop lifting and Burglaries
Pugwash replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
I hear that M & S in LL lose a substantial amount of goods through shop lifting each week. I do not see any obvious security staff near the entrance and exit and no alarms (like Sainsbury's) Surely these larger chain have the finances to have a more stringent approach to shoplifting and can apprehend suspects and then call police. Police may be more willing to take actions if they get more co operation from these stores. Both of the St. Christopher's shops are also targeted by shoplifters and thieves, with several customers having their purses etc taken. -
I remember George well - he was known to most of the members of the East Dulwich Community Centre ( which was called Alleyn Community Centre in those days after the ward) He lost so much blood that his police colleagues queued up at Kings to donate blood, The local community pulled together and had many fund raising events over the next year to enable Kings to purchase a scanner. One event at the community centre took place in early 1986 which raised over ?1,000 - I had to appear at Camberwell Magistrate's Court to get a drinks licence for the event. I was heavily pregnant at the time - the judge looked at me and asked when I was due (within next 10 days) so I was asked one question only and also what the event was for as they were worried that I might have gone into labour in the dock. Whole process took less that 5 minutes whereas other licence requests were quizzed for around 15 minutes. George's wife was a headmistress but cannot remember where and the lived around Honor Oak area. He was eventually replaced by PC Mike Ward and later by PC Adrian Crust.
