very emotional broadcast - I was in tears as the end. A very brave man. St. Christopher's Hospice is a wonderful place - when you walk in you get this feeling of peace and laughter and light. The gardens are fantastic, the restaurant opened 7 days a week good and welcoming. My mother died here a few years ago and the care we all received was brilliant. For my work I have attended a number of courses here, and am the End of Life Lead for my work

Moving (for work) with school-age child?
Pugwash replied to Saffron's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Going down the A3 can be time consuming. I used to work at East Sheen and found all the backstreet routes from Clapham onwards to avoid the traffic jams. once you are past West Hill Wandsworth it seem easier -
From what I recall ( as a resident who has lived in ED since birth) this was a clothes/millinery shop. I have vague memories from the early 60s seeing hats and dresses displayed in the windows. They were old fashioned even in those days. The elderly lady owner, was involved in a fire a few years ago

I believe you may need to have a licence to dispose of 'rubbish' I am not implying that you may not be a legitimate concern but there are some cowboys out there advertising similar services We almost got stung some years ago, when someone advertised removing unwanted items following a house clearance was hired by us.. We had a call from Lambeth Environmental Services who were going to fine us as the 'firm' had illegally disposed of the rubbish, They had traced us through an old letter of my deceased father in law which was found. When the realised we had no knowledge of the 'dumping' we gave them the business card of the 'firm' and they set up a trap for them. Please do not think that I am suggesting that your business is like this firm but people need to be cautious when disposing of unwanted goods

Adrian Crust is retiring and we'd like to honour him
Pugwash replied to mynamehere's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
George Hammond that's right just could not think of his surname. Adrian apparently is doing the street surgery in NX Rd tomorrow - a little later than usual so anyone who wants to say goodbye can meet him there. -

You obviously do not know Adrian well. -
I admit to sometimes eating a sandwich on the bus. My job often involves travelling around London and elsewhere and I am aware I cannot arrive at someone's home, hospital or care home eating, or even knowing where I can purchase food when I get there. As a diabetic, I cannot go long periods of time without something filling like a roll or sandwich. I always take my rubbish home

I have written to Sgt Victoria to see if Adrian is doing the Street Meeting outside the mosque on NX Rd Friday 22nd 12.30 - 1.30, as I will take a long and early lunch break to come and wish him well. I think if all of us who feel that Adrian has been an exceptional police officer, could recommend him for an OBE or something, this would be a good testimony. I have his Police number somewhere. We have a history of exceptional bobbies in ED - George (cannot recall surname) who was stabbed in LL in 1985 and the local police all donated blood for him. The Ed Community Centre has a big event and raised nearly a ?1000 towards a scanner for Kings in Feb 1986 ( I recall this well as I had a 2 week old baby) followed by Mike Ward, Mick Bell and Adrian -

Hopefully he will be at the Street Meeting on 22nd May so I will try and get some time off work to say goodbye. Can you do a cricket themed cake - as cricket is his passion? -

I have been in touch with Martin the chair of the SNT police group who confirmed that Adrian popped in to tell him today that he was leaving on Friday. According to Sgt Victoria - Adrian wants to slip away quietly with no party of gifts etc. His last day of work is 28th May but is taking leave to go this week. It is a pity unless we could get him to change his mind and come back in a few weeks time for a party. Or if everyone recommends him for an Honours OBE/MBE - if the whole community backs this it would be great. I believe I still have his badge number somewhere. -

It was only 2-3 weeks ago Adrian told us that he was NOT retiring so I think we need to confirm this first. He also spoke to a member of the Police Group whilst visiting the Bread of Life caf? 2 weeks ago about participating in an event in September. When we did the party for Mick Bell at the ED Community Centre everyone who contributed towards a gift for Mick was invited and people were asked to contribute towards catering costs in money or kind. I will write to Martin the Chair of the ED SNT police group to clarify -
A friend was a black cab driver, and recently retired. He had to have a medical before his licence was renewed, proof that he was insured, police checked, references chased. He hired his cab which was regularly maintained. Trade was variable and he could not guarantee his weekly income. Also known mini cab drivers - some do this as they cannot find work elsewhere, some take you a roundabout way to your destination to get additional fares. Some of the cars are poorly maintained. A colleague's hubby is a mini cab driver - he gave up being a chef when they had kids - he looked after the children during the day when she worked and in the evenings worked from around 6 pm - 1 am 6 days a week. We need a combination of both cabbies and mini cabs.

Is Adrian definitely retiring as at the May Police Meeting he announced that he WAS NOT retiring even though he is of the age to go. Has he (or rather his wife) changed his mind. I have known Adrian for 20 years. When we heard last year that he may retired the local community had started plans to give him a farewell party ( we did the same for Mick Bell) but when Adrian told several of us he did not want to go, we stopped the planning. He does not live in the area - so coming back may be difficult. The only thing could be that they had suggested moving him from ED and that has prompted a change of mind. He is mad on cricket and also teaches this. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
Pugwash replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Coming down DKH especially between 5 and 7 pm, you have the lights at top of the hill, then the ones near sainsburys plus those other lights which are activated by pedestrians crossing over DKH to get to supermarket/park etc, then the 2 sets of lights where bus filters are then outside station. I suggest keep lights at station but remove the lights where the bus filter is. -

Pugwash replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James am I right in thinking that children will be attending 'school' in the old Police station from September? If so, from the outside it does not look as though anything is going on. Lights by ED station and DKH, traffic situation not helped by having 2 sets of lights within metres of each other as travellers from the station are crossing every few minutes, would it not be more logical just to have the station lights. Most of the buses do not use the bus filter lane on the other lights. -

Pugwash replied to colabottle's topic in Lost, Found or Stolen
We have a similar looking cat (Annie) who lives at top of Barry Road. I have seen a 'look a like cat' in the area, a couple of weeks ago saw the cat on Barry Road opposite Sr. Anthony's School. Initially thought this was Annie until I found her at home. Try walking around this area it may be part of her patch. -
Summer events - why Goose Green?
Pugwash replied to HappyFamily's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Many years ago Southwark arranged similar activities in all their parks i.e. Dulwich, Peckham Rye and Belair and it was an opportunity for independent artists/producers and local charities/organisations to raise some money. These were stopped several years ago when Southwark had to trim their budget. There are a couple events that take place on the Rye and you have the Dulwich Park Fair. -
just sent another letter to a Mr. Bhatia who wrote to us on 26th April saying that a statement and details of the outstanding amount would be sent within 3=5 working days. Still not arrived - we have been trying to get this since January 2015. Does VF accept payment via Internet Banking as we were informed this was they way to pay any money as the DD was cancelled. Has anyone done this and could they give me details of account/sort code etc ( this may need to be pm)

I think the Lib Dems put a brake on the more extreme policies and cutbacks that the Torys wanted to make, this time round David C and his cronies will have a free hand in privatising various sections of NHS etc and also more draconian cuts in welfare spending and monies to local authorities. For those who voted tactically - you may have made a wrong choice

Childminders that pickup from Goodrich primary sch
Pugwash replied to yummy mummy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
When we had a child-minder, they would not go past 6 pm - generally they take from 8 - 6 pm on a full day. One day both of us were very late to do the pick up after school due to horrendous traffic problems and although we rang the child minder, she charged us extra (fair enough) but warned us that if we were more than 5- 10 minutes late on another occasion, she would terminate her contract with us.
