  1. Morning Steve. Did you write that before or after having read the poetry thread?

Hee hee, now with MP's paper bag and Bagpuss' bear, this one has to come next:- The common cormorant or shag Lays eggs inside a paper bag The reason you will see no doubt It is to keep the lightning out But what these unobservant birds Have never noticed is that herds Of wandering bears may come with buns And steal the bags to hold the crumbs. Edited for excess of bears
  3. Hmm. There have been an awful lot of postings about missing cats recently.

No, no, Michael in fact boys smell. It's more correct to say that girls are rubbish. They are also pedantic, and insist on being right all the time. And they always have to have the

Oop or oops, yes indeed. A rose by any other name, though, MP? (do you think it could be a Freudian slip resulting from having a German husband?! ::o)

I'm sitting here watching the sky turn a lovely dim shade of blue and have just heard the church bells, so was reminded of 'Elegy Written in a Country Church-Yard' (or part of it anyway):- The curfew tolls the knell of parting day, The lowing herd winds slowly o'er the lea, The ploughman homeward plods his weary way, And leaves the world to darkness and to me. Now fades the glimmering landscape on the sight, And all the air a solemn stillness holds, Save where the beetle wheels his droning flight, And drowsy tinklings lull the distant folds: Anyone else want to share a poem they love?

Hans Solo.... sigh. I need to get out more.
  8. I feel that with Ms B in the world there is no longer any need to complain about anything, as she has hit the nail so very smartly on the head.
  9. Some thoughts on the cat/toast thing. It does indeed seem to be the solution to a world without a clean, grean power system. Important to read all 3 articles for the full picture to emerge. Miaow! Why are yawns infectious?

House was good, although Foreman needs to buy a second shirt. Hugh Laurie.... sigh.
  11. You might not have found it as it's tucked off the main street but Petitou is a great coffee and lunch hangout.
  12. Here's the story I was referring to earlier The Guardian sez And here's the Thunderer's take on it But on the other hand something else
  13. I assume this is the same dog that can be heard from the pub garden snarling and barking. Even in the safety of the pub garden on the other side of the fence it's an unpleasant noise.
  14. If that was for me, I didn't find it offensive, I always like to read your posts. Just thought should offer a snorky health warning, altho I'm aware that was a bit presumptuous. Ms - as I'm sure you know, as someone who is interested in fighting inequality - is used where a woman doesn't feel that her marital status is relevant to her formal title.
  15. There's been some interesting articles in the press recently about children of - I would like to side-step the generalising class labelling here so I'll say concerned/interested/pushy parents who go to poorly performing schools. Apparently these kids do well, but it's not necessarily good news all round, or at least not for kids who don't receive the same encouragement at home. The first lot of kids get a disproportionate amount of teacher attention because they behave in class, and are expected to improve teacher and school league tables. They also tend to stick together and dominate the top sets. I'm headed for bed but will try to dig this stuff out tomorrow if anyone is interested. James- re Snorky's message if you haven't been reading the forum long you might not be familiar with Snorky's passionate posting style. I shouldn't really be trying to speak for him - and Snorky please smack me if I'm wrong - but I don't think you shd take the fois gras etc. personally.
  16. Nice to raise a glass to I72 last night- Sean, Citizen, David good to see you guys, Brendan, Hannah - good to meet you in person! I hope the party continued long and well after my ridiculously early departure?

...how come things get posted twice? I don't mean any of it THAT much.
  19. Probably won't make any difference in the real world but worth saying - have you spoken to HR? Seems a bit out of order that you should have to sit in a hot smoky room - even pub workers don't have to do that these days! *hides face behind cushion*
  20. Happy Birthday Azoooooooool.

*gnawing on Satyr bone, face covered in sauce, looks up bemoosedly* Wha-? No, no - I was just having something to eat! Jeez.
  22. Happy St. George's Day, everyone. I for one am feeling particularly dapper, tolerant, ironic, tea-drinking, mead-imbibing and quaint today. Oh, and my teeth are looking a bit brown. How weird is that?!* *apart from those parts of me that are Scottish, Welsh and French.

Frightening combination of real and unreal there, MP. Will endeavour not to die in the immediate future, but the evil eye which Citizen aimed at PGC bounced off the chandelier and hit me by mistake. Feel - rather - weak... *falls melodramatically on the sofa, presses hand to forehead* Adieu, dear friends! Only caffeine can save me now, and there's nothing in the QR but alcohol!

If I should die, think only this of me: I'll be back to getcha. (With thanks to Messrs Curtis and Atkinson)
