  1. When you're rather tall and regularly described as scary I'm afraid it just goes with the territory, just the way it is. But please don't be sad, one of the many reasons I love and adore Mr. Moos is that he's not scared of me at all, hurray.
  2. Louisiana, I think that mockers and Sean are talking about a dislike or distrust of Catholicism among the (largely non-Catholic) Establishment, and possibly even among the majority of people in the country whose roots/culture are based in Christianity, even if they themselves are not Christians. Remember the hoo-ha when it looked as though Tony Blair was going to be our first Catholic Prime Minister. People seem to have incredibly long cultural memories. Is this the ongoing legacy of the interChristian religious conflicts of Tudor/Stuart times?

As one who's never raised much chivalry in the male breast, I can't stand girls like that.
  4. Et tu, Brum?? Not the Clooney, please never the Clooney. I feel sorry for poor old George M, but clearly he's walking a path he paved himself. I don't think anyone enjoys prison though, do they?
  5. I've also read you need to keep an eye on the ceiling price of your street. If the houses in your street are fetching ?100k, you aren't likely to get substantially more than that regardless of your improvements. I don't know what the multiple is, but would guess a max of 20% or 30%? Personally, I wouldn't take on the hassle unless I wanted to live with the changes but maybe I'm just lazy.

Hadn't thought of the second at all, but secondary school kids in particular could really do with a compact reader for all of their reference books, their backpacks always look incredibly heavy.
  7. I like the demure pub sign. That actress really doesn't look like the type that I imagine his Grace the Bish was hoping to meet.
  8. "Nannytax" did it for us. We were in a more classic nanny share arrangement but they were really helpful even though the other family were using a different nanny tax agency. Do shop around though, as prices can vary for what is essentially a standard service.
  9. fuckity fuckity fuck fuck. I'm wincing at his swearing even more than at the huge waves knocking his small children about. What's wrong with me?

    People I like

Is that 'cos they're just so darn lucky? I hear they're the luckiest people in the world.
  11. That was a joy, wasn't it? I feel it may be funny forever.
  12. I think you would need to talk to an agency and get her other employers to also show them their pay and calculations, so you can pro-rate the pay and tax appropriately. If nannies worked as contractors, then it would be up to them to contract out their services and pay tax as self-employed people, however I think they are always treated as employees which means that the responsibility for paying the correct tax lies with the joint employers. Nanny agencies are used to dealing with nanny shares so they would be easily able to help you. Best of luck!

George is gay?! I like people who like uncool things like Star Trek and trains. I love the way they don't give a shit what trendy people think.
  14. Hona, is your Christmas dual personality creeping up on you early this year? Steady, old chap - it's not even Hallowe'en yet!
  15. KK, I think Narnia's talking about people starting a thread to recommend a business as their first post. It's such a difficult area, because it does look suspicious and often turns out to be bogus, but I hate the idea of putting off a genuine poster who's just testing out using the forum for the first time. I think my first post was defending some of the chain businesses in East Dulwich in the middle of a slightly heated debate, and I was terrified I was about to be steamrollered by a regular poster.
  16. Well said on the Walrus. He may be a bit moth-eaten but the kids laaahv heeeeem.

    Quiet room...

That sounds a bit too safe. Haven't you got a job that needs a chainsaw?
  18. Can't the gay girls of ED arrange a pissup without being subjected to heckling? Not cricket, IMO.
  19. A little bit harsh, Narnia? It's not unreasonable for WOD to ask this young man to contribute a mite to the household that raised and still supports him. He only has to answer the door!

Humph, Moosling could have done with the pocket money.
  21. *Alert: this is revolting* Moosling: Mummy, please make Blubeezer dry (hands me a dry-looking monster toy) I examine it more closely and find a green smear on one of its horns Me: Moosling, did you wipe your nose on Blubeezer? Moosling (indignantly): Yes!
  22. Paul McGannnnn is exquisitely beautiful, until he smiles. I feel this has to be recorded as a disadvantage.
  23. Sorry IV, but I don't think saying it's OK to ask for interest in finding out more about a charity and saying it's OK to charge for treatment are in the same league at all. Not even in the same direction.
  24. Happy Birthday Strawbs! Hope you're having a fabulous day.
  25. Definitely the washing machine - may just be the drum seal that needs replacing. The rubber goes eventually and it starts to look a bit slimy (grim). This process can be slowed next time if you usually leave your washing machine door open so that the inside dries more quickly.
