  1. Someone on La Piba's side thought it fine to post a spectacularly racist joke. I actually spat some of my breakfast across the room on reading it. Thus far it has elicited 30 likes and lots of comments of the 'that's hilarious nig' variety (yeah, it was an incredibly clever play on words with his name which starts nig, and a certain word). I've read the past is a foreign country, I didn't realise this foreign country was the past. Question is, do I take them to task with the inevitable family feud that will ensue and the ostracism of the town ill face (he's a highly respected member of the community and there were lots of impressionable children amongst the likers) on moving there, or do I keep a shameful silence?

  14. If you judge cameron and osborne by their actions rather than their disingenuous hug a hoodie soundbites I think it's plain to see what they stand for. Rolling back the achievements of Beveridge, Atlee and Bevan, rolling Europe back to 1991 and completing the neoliberal revolution started by Thatcher and hugely extended by Blair. Heir to Blair was the one moment of honesty I think we've had.
  15. I think there's an element of death being the ultimate expression of retribution, a sense of 'I hate you, ha ha I'm alive and you're not' amongst many who felt genuine anger and were certainly well within their rights to do so (unlike, say the champagne quaffing hipster foetuses with their 'down with the bedroom tax' posters) regardless of the wider geopolitical macroeconomic factors behind their plight. Of course this is something of an empty victory over an 87 year old who died of natural causes. Personally I'd really like to see Blair get something scary and painful in the not-too-distant future. Maybe he could put his (mouth where his) money where his mouth is and inhale some atomised Depleted Uranium, that would be far more satisfying than my future sextegenarian self raising a quiet glass of cava after he dies of old age in his four poster bed having bought Blenheim Palace on the proceeds of advising faceless corporations on how to exploit new opportunities in the middle east.... nnnnnghhh cool wet clowns.........
  16. As a general concept it's spot on. LadyD earlier claimed that shadowy corporate paymasters are behind the apparent inherent conservatism (with small c) of post Thatcher governments, when of course it's the electorate who are responsible for squeezing politics to a narrow centre, and wer so lacking inspiration for a solution to the crisis of neoliberalism, that they couldn't even pick a government to do anything about it. Contrast that with the Italians who picked someone who explicitly said they weren't going to do anything about it, yay with that moral high ground peeps, down with Thatch (yaaaawn).
  17. I was literally about to write, "oh my god, I'm agreeing with everything huguenot says" then you had to go and spoil it all by saying Blair went to war for oil, one of the more constant idiocies you've stuck by over the years. Barring that 10/10
  18. "We did have a big recession at the start and at the end of her reign tho" Thank god there's been no return to boom and bust eh!
  19. "And yes, your impotent bitterness is showcased for all to see if you fail to live-up to the promise of celebrating her death" surely this is purest circular logic. Isn't the more likely scenario that most people, even detractors, are thoroughly bored of the whole thing and watching The Village on iPlayer?
  20. Quite, I was there (though too young to remember) when my dad popped some champagne by the roadside as Franco's state funeral cortege made its way past our house on the way to Valle de los Ca?dos. That was someone who really killed fathers. But dad always said it will be a cause of eternal shame that Franco* died peacefully in his bed. *for years I actually thought "the bastard" was his official epithet like William before him.
