  1. So in every single country in the world the fare on offer from street vendors is a point of cultural pride, but here its a sign of breakdown of the old order and some sort of putrid hipster, aspirant class stigma, which should be countered by buying flavourless, generic pre-packaged food from the fridge of an acceptable, yet characterless national chain. Should we bolster this by lamenting the emergerence over the last decade or so of beer with some discernible flavour by stubbornly washing it down with some tepid John Smiths in a can or a nice crisp Castlemain XXXX? ps, just in case you missed it the 4 Xes are really another word and there's an implicit comma before it, think alliteration ;-P
  2. I'm obviously missing a strain of hilarious in-jokes here. Does a chip van count as an irritating cultural development or is it just if a bloke selling food is somehow possessed of a nebulous quality that sets people's blowindar off, like I dunno, a three-wheeled stall?
  3. There's an increasing gaggle of posters on here who make it hard to summon the will to live. ffs he's just asking if people know any places that make nice food to east outside now it's sunny. I for one would kill for that round my work where the most exciting culinary event of the past decade is the opening of a new greggs, makes a change from mayonaiise sodden sandwiches from Pret & Eat I guess.
  4. Year Walk on iOS. It's a strange one, a thing of unsettling beauty however. As point and clicks go its probably as far removed from Sam and max as its possible to be. Sort of Miss Smillas feeling for snow meets the orphanage via the evil dead, all mangled through sixties surrealist Czech animation. Or the episode of the Moomins directed by George A Romero
  5. Yeah, the build up just as lovely. Liquid football.
  6. Marvellous. Mind you, the comments make you ashamed to be a human being don't they!!

just out of curiosity just looked on youtube for something vaguely recent. Ho hum, it was a bit......poor man's chris de burgh. eek!! Incidentally I know a chap who used to be the pyschologist at gosforth prison, apparently Lady in Red is the most requested song at the annual christmas party in the sex offenders wing. I'm not sure what that means, but it has to mean something!!!
  8. RD, is there any way you can tell us who have, historically, been the best and the worst at predicting their own team's results. And, just out of interest, if spurs have ever lost 8-0?

interesting read sj, it's a tough gig for sure, no pun intended. A bit bonkers you have to pay the PRS when playing your own songs.

"The band lock into that galloping, clippety-clop prog rock groove, somewhere in between Riverdance and a super-wack version of the Doctor Who theme, and Fish rewrites The Lord's Prayer, which of course always works really well in pop songs." :)

blimey, and some!! That was uncomfortably like looking into a mirror made of words, especially as he's a bit of a wazzock.

I loved them when I was fourteen, but I'm leaning towards pile of old shite in retrospect.

  15. Gordon Brown certainly left an indelible mark as chancellor, I'm struggling to think of much of a legacy in terms of his premiership. Bigotgate....erm no, can't think of anything.
  16. Callaghan...tricky. Probably he bequeathed us Thatcher....and the rest is as they say..... and thinking about it, given the electorate's reluctance to go labour after his term, I'd say Blair was a direct result of his premiership. Admittedly small pickings, sort of legacy through omission.
  17. John Major, we have peace in Northern Ireland. Blair just finished the job. We can probably thank his attempts at keeping us in the ERM for us not being in the euro too!
  18. That's probably true to some extent for every ruler since caligula. Can we think of some who had no impact whatsoever, that's the harder trick? -- claudius then, caligula opted for some horse shagging instead or something, oops --
  19. Don't worry, I got to have that feeling all over again 2 days later when I bought the directors directors directors cut on blu-ray!!!
  20. I think he wa just obeying woody's instructions on starting a flamewar thread to the letter.
  21. Many blu-ray players upscale the dvds, and though the effectiveness varies it can often be pretty good. especially on pixaresque stuff. Also my TV has double the lines and some clever interpolation software that adds to it. This can have crippling effects on older or poorly digitised DVDs. I actually threw away my copy of bladerunner.
  22. worth it as long as your tv can do 1080p, otherwise probaly not worth it. But yes it does look amazing. Biggest hurdle to overcome is that for a while everything looks less cinematic weirdly enough, more home video. This passes with time.
  23. talking of bonkers, 2 hours of hundreds of fans' star wars recreations spliced together. madeness, genius or both? http://www.starwarsuncut.com/newhope
  24. The barking mad worlds of conspiracy theorists and jihadists collide http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2013/04/16/what_extremists_are_saying_about_the_boston_massacre?page=full I noticed an even barkinger mad film shared on facebook which had already decided it was a 'false flag' operation, without even bothering for an official narrative to refute, and, bizarrely enough, placed the blame squarely at the feet of Steve Jackson who did those 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books I enjoyed as a boy. The world would definitely be a duller place without them!! *keenly awaits New Nexus' first linky on the matter*
  25. I'm nothing if not inconsistent. Hang on, how many negatives is that? I can't work out what that means!!
