  1. Indeed. Don't worry KK, I've been around long enough to know how people operate on the forum. It's irksome to be misinterpreted but I don't feel the need to shout out my homophilic credentials. Thanks to you, saffron and civilservant for the reasonable vote of support though, appreciated. Worker, I refer you to my comment of 11:29 "The nature of the porn was incidental to my concern about the situation..."
  2. were CUSM guardian readers? I'd have said Socialist Worker.

The cloud is a new term for a not especially new concept, it basically means getting someone or somewhere else to store your data rather than on a physical disk on your computer or plugged into your computer. It also implies that you can then get hold of your info from any computer or smart phone. It could be files, such as diocuments, music files, photos etc, buyt it can also be bookmarks, contacts for your phone, appointments on a calendar etc. If you have a smaert phone chances are it regularly backs itself up to google/iCloud all by itself, so you may be using a cloud already.
  4. ffs, it has nothing to do with him being gay, it's about how getting into a stranger's car is a massively unkonwn quantity where you effectively lose control of the situation. Can be risky as an adult, it's an unthinkable step to allow a child to take. I'll be sure to spell everything out in big coloured letters for those of you incapable of parsing anything without leaping for the politically incorrect button. Idiots, no wonder I usually skulk in the lounge, at least they're generally a bit brighter in there.

sadly yes. The difference is immediately noticeable though. Lossless formats are supposed to be identical to the source (though Apple lossless does run some compression unlike FLAC and AIFF), but I do still notice a big difference between the CD and the iPod I'm putting that down to the relatively cheap DAC on the ipod, am considering getting a seperate DAC, though I'm drawing the line at getting scary interconnects! It'd be good to have a split this into a new thread function wouldn't it. Adminnnnn.......
  6. well indeed, I just didn't see it until I was sat down. The nature of the porn was incidental to my concern about the situation, but it is an accurate description nevertheless and somewhat seared on to my memory.
  7. Well, to be fair, nothing here is 'helping'. Why any parent would give any qualification to the advice 'Don't get into a car with any stranger' is beyond me and frankly irresponsible. There the argument ends, the only sensible advice 'go to the police' was done by the fourth post. Otherwise nothing to see here, as usual. Homophobic profiling...pillock!
  8. Other stand out contributions by this woman include 'why I would willingly die to save my dog' nuff said really....
  9. Years ago as a student I used to hitchike a fair bit. I remember getting into a car at the gloucester roundabout on the M5 and the inside was decorated with gay porn. I politely asked him to pull up and let me out, which he begrudgingly did, but it was a real ascending screechy violins moment. Funnily enough on recounting the tale back up at university I met two others who'd had the same experience in the same gold audi on that route. None of it stopped me hitchiking, but it makes you think that you are ceding control to someone who might have more nefarious intentions rather than chancing his arm that that'll be your thing. Obviously this is something of an aside, I'm with Jeremy that a blanket ban for kids is the only sensible option, and I'm someone who normally complains about the pitchfork mentality on here over 'suspicious men'.
  10. That must be very annoying, but it's a well established scam. It is depressing I'll grant you, but it should go without saying that you never valuables on your table.
  11. FFS. There's a thread called I heard the news today oh boy, specifically for sharing interesting news. 36 pages long. No need for a new thread for each link, imagine 36 pages worth of links clogging the place up http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?20,31883,page=36 edited to add a FFS, seriously, there should be a sensitivity test before issuing a forum user licence!!
  12. Riots and ragtime and waaaaay before the like of Lady Gaga *spits* "there was a clause in the insurance contract stipulating that she must never wash the dishes." and just for interest, that corner today https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=82+Railton+Road,+London&hl=en&ll=51.457871,-0.10819&spn=0.007327,0.014033&sll=51.528642,-0.101599&sspn=0.468191,0.898132&oq=82+railton&hnear=82+Railton+Rd,+London+Borough+of+Lambeth,+London+SE24,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=51.457963,-0.108315&panoid=jIHhLPjE4zSWBpMkvL37Rg&cbp=12,182.41,,0,7.98tonk-woman-winifred-atwell-and-the-railton-road-in-brixton/ and this quote could put the cat among the pigeons in the class thread "Whether the Queen?s spirits needed lifting as well we don?t know but Winifred performed later at a private performance for the Queen and Princess Margaret at Buckingham Palace where she played Roll Out the Barrel and other Royal favourites."

Nothing wrong with it. Plenty of options, google+, google drive, iCloud (if you're all ipaddy/Maccy), dropbox, and defacto clouds like flickr, photobox etc. I'd be loathe to only have stuff on the cloud and nothing locally just because service providers can go through bouts of being a bit unreliable, which could be frustrating. Also there's the uneasy sense that you don't own your own media anymore, which is in fact true if you use facebook as a photo storage mechanism. DOes iTunes work seamlessly with iCloud? I daren't try (not to mention I'm reripping everything I won....again....this time to apple lossless as MP3s really are dreadful aren't they!!
  14. Haven't more people been killed in Belgium than anywhere else, or something weird like that?
  15. What a brilliant story Ted.
  16. I rather thought the key term in this question is not whether there is a social strataficiation or whether we judge each other, but whether the word 'system' in class system is still relevant. Given that these days we can't even define the classes I'd say the system is long dead. I went in to the old jamaica wine house the other day and the it was chaos, a free for all I tell ya, the class division walls were being completely ignored. Rich folk in the leftermost part f the bar, estuary accents blaring in the rightermost, tut tut. I aim to reintroduce the class system by wearing a bola hat, ill fitting off the peg suit, and describing myself as a clerk whilst living in a dingy victorian terrace on the bread line, and hopefully everyone else will follow.
  17. Brief yet effective, Lindsay Buckingham on The Chain.
  18. Great stuff. Been to the grapes a couple of times, ye olde mitre too. I love some of them that look like an old speakeasy or something.
  19. These rumours have been around long before he popped his clogs. According to Paul Gambucini the tabloids approached him a couple of times with the allegations and he always used his charity work as leverage to make them back off which they always did.
  20. Marty McFly at the disco. Ya kids will love it, he failed to mention that their kids will be a bit confused and their kids will revive stupid eighties hair, but guitar solos, not so much.
  21. Nice try DulwichFox, but wrong. The term comes from draught meaning to drink or swallow, though the etymology of the two is identical in fairness.
  22. "there's a marketing technique for heroin??" I think she's called Kate Moss
  23. Did someone actually just use the phrase 'libtard'? Please don't allow this expression to be normalised this side of the Atlantic!!!!
