  1. in short i don't know AM, im not espeially well versed with the working of the Android os. I imagine it's some sort of file association type mcgubbins. I often get the option to use once or use always, and that association get saved in the application manager, and as of the latest update those associations can be deleted atomically as opposed to all or nothing which used to be the case.
  2. The most interesting one is the indeed the bit that bit that quids cites, though lets not kid ourselves there was some sort of class solidarity going on or that policy wasn't executed with a total disregard for human life. What's most interesting about it is that in today's world that divide between political class and joe schmo is much starker. Not a single serving MP has a child in the armed forces (or at least didn't during the iraq invasion). As for were we outclassed in the second, clearly not, we won. But we were better supplied, had more artillery and from the latter part of '42 onwards had clear air superiority, and we did always have the preponderance of power on the seas, though the u-boats damn near made up for it in the first half of the war. And yet were were generally outclassed pound for pound to borrow boxing parlance, with the germans having better equipment and incredibly well versed in effective couterattacks to keep your opponent off balance. German officers after the war said they had much more respect for the russians and the americans who fought more like them and found the British too plodding. Of course there was good reason for that. We had in fact learnt the lessons of the first war and no longer considered soldiers fodder. Conservative tactics, not launching offensives until there was a superiority of men and materiel (in general, there were some appalling pointless battles fought by monty in Tunisia for instance in a futile race for glory) all reflected the value placed upon human life in ways that was unthinkable in the red army and wermacht, and to a surprisingly large extent in the us army (more so in the first war where there was a callous disregard for life and desperately costly offensives launched when the war was over in all but name). Aaaanyway good linky quids, I do like a bit of mythbusting.
  3. looks like my time at the hamlet should make me feel right at home in ireland!! http://www.european-football-statistics.co.uk/attn/nav/attnirl.htm
  4. android will usually give you a list of apps capable of opening the attachment type, so it could be you need to download something. Kindle works well for PDFs for instance. polaris office viewer works for most standard types too (and seemingly shipped with my samsung).

  6. Well, we built in those teeth rather than bought, building costs were rock bottom, but the house won't be worth what we paid for it for a few years yet (of course it's worth that, just in terms of resale value obviosuly) but it'll work out in the long run.
  7. Sounded like a great game, could hear the crowd very clearly from my house. Was sadly too busy prepping for the big off to go, but will definitely squeeze in one more game if I can. I'll miss them even more than aeroplane noise!
  8. Alcohol comes from potatoes
  9. I tend to get them on amazon by the 100

Fair enough, looking forward to your songs to achieve legendary status and enduring world adulation, cos it's a piece of piss no doubt.
  12. Wot otta said, you've paid your dues on that money, even as a socialist I don't think all wealth is held on some sort of sufferance from the state. iht has its roots in simony and patronage, that shouldn't be applied to the taxed proceeds of honest graft!!!
  13. For the best..
  14. Is this the quids thread then? Soooo..just you, *edt mickster*, and me then squidder. Me on the porter, you on the steller. I reckon you've stuff from the seventies on, I'm all like late eighties, I'll see your doctor feelgood and raise you wedding present.
  15. My film buff (filmo?) step brother claimed 2013 was the best year for films in his lifetime. I went to one film, it had dinosaurs, it was awful.
  16. But what a great opportunity when they apply for jobs in the shops 'relevant experience: 10 years dealing; relevant knowledge: an anoraks discernment on very nuance of weed and resin' the jobs yours, just don't steal from me or I'll shoot you....sorry, force of habit....
  17. Currently the man is a bunch of chaps in Mexico that delight in the most brutal form of governing. At least Glaxo can put some of the profits into drugs that save lives and stuff. The drugs trade is hideously taxed, just not by the man or by Osborne. It certainly isn't some leveller picking up the little guy, it's just misery and exploitation across the entire supply chain. Legalise it. As for skunk, well it has it's moments, but I'm old fashioned and I never really did see eye to eye with all this green stuff, natural or no. Not that I've been within a country mile of the stuff since about 2001
  18. Ok, done black swan. Hmmmm. What can I say, 2 hours to basically do the dark forest of dagobar scene from Empire Strikes Back. Albeit with prettier people and additional frotting, so not all bad then.
  19. Thanks Loz, exactly. Ive no problem with the computer industry given I'm a developer. It's just I don't really consider myself a creative. By not shiny I just meant dull and boring.
  20. Thanks otta, it's a ban on tobacco advertising, the clue is in the question.
  21. "ECigs get around the current bans on tobacco advertising" ...and i promise you I'm not an ecig lobbyist, just a pedant, but isn't this a bit like saying cars get around ban on tobacco advertising, or perhaps more appropriately, coca cola gets around ban on alcohol advertising. Weirdly emotive stuff clearly.
  22. I know I know. I'm just banging my 'never buy anythiing that you can't replace the battery yourself' drum. It's why I went S4 over the marginally superior HTC One. Apple never got a look in god bless 'er socks (my poor old ipad 1 wont charge now, the piblet is most upset)
  23. NAGAIUTB griping about the old days used to be better gathered round the hearth with the smell of burning alder and damp wattle and daub in your nostrils.
  24. fifteen quid http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Galaxy-Extra-Battery-Kit/dp/B00BTCPQ0M
  25. you mean we all aspire to look down on everyone else, whilst expressing cognitive dissonance? In which case I missed the humour, apologies :)
