I think junk mail without a return address may possibly be destroyed, but all other mail without a return address is opened.

Just cross out the address, write "Addressee unknown. RTS" on the package and put it in a postbox. It'll go to Royal Mail's return letter office in Belfast where it'll get opened and hopefully returned to sender.
  4. Your perseverance is to be applauded but you'd probably be best off returning them to sender. If it's something she's ordered she'll soon realise she hasn't received it.
  5. Postmen (and women) can object to delivering these BNP leaflets on a moral basis but in my experience any objection to delivering them would be based on more expedient reasoning.
  6. We're all going to die.
  7. I had my 6-month old ?400 bike stolen in exactly the same way in my old flat in 2006. You could always try Brick Lane market tomorrow.

I think the 'traders' thought I was an undercover copper. Actually, they should have known I wasn't cuz when I phoned the police to get a crime report number the police officer/worker advised me to go to Brick Lane the following Sunday to look for my bike. I did think "well, why don't you lot go down there if you know stolen goods are being openly sold".

  10. Do NOT leave ANY bicycle locked up overnight on the street. Otherwise expect it, or parts of it, not to be there in the morning. C'mon people.

  12. It had probably fallen down the back of somewhere in a sorting office.

  18. I have an air rifle if that's any help.
  19. How do you solve a problem like Royal Mail?
  20. It's going to be a (huge) HMV. ;0)
  21. Oh, and casual workers at RM are not paid more than permanent ones. As if the CWU would stand for that!
  22. PeckhamRose, I don't understand why you took exception to what I wrote. I didn't mention anything about casual workers. The point I am making is that, because the job is 'job and finish', for the good majority of postmen the sooner you finish your delivery, the better. Hence, not attempting delivery for parcels. I know RM management are mostly to blame, but sometimes it is individual postmen's fault.

I think you'll find that they're being worn by someone else by now. The reason postmen leave cards without ringing the bell is that they assume you'll be out (cuz you were the last time they had a parcel for you). It's a lot easier for them to not attempt delivery by leaving the item at the sorting office and just delivering a 739 card.
  24. That news article dates from August. And Foxtons being placed into administration will be kept secret for a couple of weeks? Wishful thinking all round I think.
