  1. Rumour-mongering at its finest. So, I take it the announcement about Foxtons' entrance into administration will be made first thing Monday morning then?

  3. Noel Gallagher: "At worst it was a juvenile prank that wasn't unfunny - but it's hardly offensive... I'm outraged that columnists in the press have dictated the tone and are telling people how to behave... It's so typical of the English in general - 10,000 people get outraged, but only five days after it's happened. You know what? There's now a massive divide. Them and us... People like David Cameron are on one side and shouldn't get involved in something that doesn't concern him. Then there's us". I couldn't have said it better myself. Also, if Jonathan Ross has been suspended for 12 weeks then surely Ian Hislop, Paul Merton and any other number of comedians/performers should suffer the same punishment?
  4. Isn't it just glorified car rental?

So although there had > been some coverage by then, it's not just a result > of the coverage. > CORRECTION. The programme was broadcast on Saturday 18 October. By the following Sunday (26 October), when the Mail on Sunday ran their piece, the broadcast had generated the grand total of 2 complaints from approx 400,000 listeners. And that was because Jonathan Ross said the word 'f---ed'. It was because of this MoS piece that this all took off. (An interesting thing I noticed was that it appears that Andrew Sachs may not check his voicemail as apparently the first time he heard the messages was when he and his agent listened to the programme on the BBC iPlayer on the Wednesday after the broadcast). In my opinion most of the country has gone f---ing mad this week. F--- the Daily Mail and all who sail in her.

However, for some reason, it no longer exists and I have not managed to find an adequate replacement. On a similar subject, I'm cycling to work tomorrow (to the West End) for the first time in over 6 months after breaking my ankle coming off my bike. Wish me luck! John
  7. I'm really surprised at people's laissez-faire reactions to this here. I find it difficult to see how the kid was merely being 'cheeky'. Huguenot summed up my feelings better than I could have expressed them. And the fact that this was done by a schoolkid apparently when on his own and not amongst his peers makes this behaviour all the more alarming.

  9. I am at a loss to understand why a woman who has had their bum slapped in public by a stranger (and a schoolboy at that) would wish to share on an internet forum that they found the experience gratifying?
  10. Is it not true that nobody really knows the route of the P13?
  11. If this is true (which I can't believe for a minute it is) then aren't loads of old dears' front doors going to be kicked in every night by the drugs squad cuz they'll have the heating on full blast?
  12. Thank you Citizen, Hopefully there'll be no permanent damage. I would be resting with my feet up on the sofa, however, myself and my partner are moving to a new flat in Nunhead next week. The timing is exquisite....
  13. I used to cycle to work from East Dulwich into the West End until Wednesday 16 April when I slipped off my bike outside the Lord Nelson pub on the corner of Trafalgar Avenue and the Old Kent Road. I wasn't going very fast at all but my leg got caught between the bike and the ground and my ankle snapped. I dislocated my left ankle, broke my ankle bone and my tibia and fibula, and tore ligaments in my leg (a trimalleolar Weber C fracture if anyone works in orthopaedics). I was wearing a helmet as always but my head never even touched the ground. A nice man who was cycling nearby called Brian who lives on Crystal Palace Road helped me (if you happen to be reading this, a very big thank you) and I was taken by ambulance to King's (that Entonox stuff is amazing!). Eight (!) days of semi-hell in King's and I was home. Still in plaster and will be off work for god knows how long. Will maybe be able to start putting weight on my leg from next week if the x-rays look good. So be careful out there!
  14. Was in here a couple of months ago on a Sunday. The service was painfully slow. Only judging from this one visit, but I think the people who run it need to take some advice from established cafe owners as to how to run a cafe properly.
  15. Funny you should mention this... 11 days ago I came off my bicycle on the way to work and dislocated my ankle, smashed my ankle bone and broke my tibia and fibula (all quite nasty really). The clinical care I received at Kings was excellent from the doctors, to the A&E staff, the consultant, the registrar, the anaesthetist, the physiotherapist etc. HOWEVER, the nursing care I received on Twining ward was SHOCKING at times. Virtually all the nurses/helathcare assistants in the ward (apart from one notable exception) had sour, miserable faces on them the entire time I was there. There seemed to be no team spirit at all. For example, in the morning when the curtain was pulled back I never received a 'good morning', 'how's your leg?' or anything, just a miserable looking nurse who seemed to see you as getting in the way of them trying to do their job. Call me naive, but I could never have believed that I could be treated like that on a hospital ward. There was one very good, very professional junior sister there, but the rest of them seemed to be in the wrong profession entirely. It wasn't until nearly 72 hours after I had my operation that I had an ice pack put on my leg to bring down the swelling (the doctor seeemed amazed that the nurses hadn't put one on). This delayed the fitting of my cast and therefore my date of discharge. To top it all I was proscribed and administered an antibiotic containing pencillin which I am allergic to. I was wearing a braclet saying 'Allergic to Penicillin' and it was stated as such at the top of my drugs chart. The nurse who administered it never even apologised to me. So, my leg will heal due to the excellent clinical staff at Kings but no thanks to the nursing staff there.

For example, here's an extract from a Guardian article from June 2005: "Britain's railways face an overcrowding crisis and a financial squeeze as they attempt to cope with a predicted 28% increase in passengers over the next decade, according to train operators. The Association of Train Operating Companies (Atoc) will today warn that fares may have to go up to price people off the railways as more travellers attempt to use already packed inter-city and commuter services". It's quite clear that huge fare increases are being used to price people off the railways and keep overcrowding under control. It's not the only reason the fares went up of course, but it's one of the main ones.
  18. Nero Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Don't accept second > best from a service we pay for! You will have to accept second best from Royal Mail now and in the future as the service is run down to its bare bones before being carved up prior to privatisation.
  19. The trains are getting busier. And the tube. And the buses. That's why the train fares recently went up by over the rate of inflation. Again. Explicitly to dissuade people from using the train due to over-capacity. And therefore to get them to use their cars. You really couldn't make it up (as they say).

  21. ?100 is a fair price (that's what I've done it for). But I guess it'd be (a lot) more if you got a 'proper' DJ from, say Yellow Pages. But in my experience anyone who's hired someone they don't know to DJ at their wedding has always regretted it. They always end up playing the wrong stuff. Try and get someone you know to do it if you can.
  22. Reasons for late/missing post? The management at Royal Mail deliveries do not care if the mail is late/misdelivered. All they care about is that the mail leaves the sorting office. You have never seen a company as badly run. I should know....
