Sean you charmer I thank you. And Bawdy nan thanks for your thoughts, I completely understand where most people come from when there are charlatans involved. However The Register will protect the public because of the registration process and the fact that the Register will only allow therapists who have had at least 3 years min of training. Natasha you are a sweetheart and thanks for your support.

Why do you have a rep to protect, im intrigued ;-)

And I will keep on smiling whilst you carry on talking crap, the same crap that came out of that congested colon of yours, because i suspect you are just full of it Sognodoro Jamma

Qualified therapists will not intervene in life threatening conditions, its called complementary for a reason, my opinion is fierce because i know the evidence base behind Nutritional therapy. The cynics on here have a very subjective opinion, and why not, but to the point of Damaging is getting silly. I run a shop fulltime, so Nutritional Therapy is my partime career. I subscribe to many different journals, and I read the lancet where there is evidenced based Research on both Nutritional Therapy and Acupuncture

Bob can i use that pic fo the website, give you the credit obviously

Daver you like Jamma are full of opinions and you obviously like the sound of your own voice or in this case, post. What cracks me is that you are all forming opinions according to this or that body of evidence, and most of the bodys of evidence is paid for by guess, the Pharmaceutical industry. In your blinkered narrowed vision you failed to mention the body of evidence against drugs, lets look at Vioxx a painkiller that literally created suicidal tendencies, then we have a branch of the co-codamol medicine that has also been banned because extensive research showed it caused ulcerations of the GI tract. Shall i go on, now you are going to ask me what do i know about this, being a mere Nutritional THerapist, well lets see part of my Degree was to study, research and examined on Pharmacology, alongide Pathophysiology, Differential Diagnosis and intergrated Physiology. THe same core modules you would study on a medical degree, so before you carry on with name calling I suggest you do your research more thoroughly. Anyone can read a study or google a study, you as we like to call laymen, would probably have great difficulty interpreting a evidence based study Sean the question about the job was aimed at miss "I have an opinion and its always right, whatever you say" Jamma Next

Look it up when you are googling 101 ways to damage someones livelihood. As a matter of Curiosity Jamma what do you do? > In response to lozzyloz, acupuncture is woo. MEDICNE DOES NOT WORK FOR EVERYONE. When you have had the intelligence to look into the difference in Nutrition and dietics, then we may have a civil conversation until then your blatant rudeness and ignorance will make you look silly. Do not compare the qualified therapist with 3,4, 5 years of study and clinical practice to mckeith. If thats all you have to throw in my face then you really are ignorant.
-
Hy Natasha thanks for your comments, Sean I understand what you are saying and of course I know that people will have their views on Complementary medicine, however I have this chat all the time with people who are nice and polite, who are not hellbent on getting their point across never mind who you offend in the process. I am a fan of polite mannered people and im sorry to say that I feel that Jamma is very rude, we have had disagreements before and to be quite brutal she will be ignored by me from now on, just not worth it with some people. Gillian Mckeith is a self styled guru, she is frowned upon in the Professional world of Nutritional therapy and is not recognised as a Nutritional Therapist. We have great representatives like Marilyn Gelenville who has a PHD in Nutrition from Reading Univeristy. We have Univerities Running Degrees, Mscs ( which i start in September at worcester) and PHDS which I Aspire too once I gain my Msc. We are not Hocus pocus Charlatans, we have a professional body and we have Doctorates. I am proud of my profession and long may it reign
-
Jamma i give up with you, do not dictate to me about science i have spent the last 8 years studying science, from the medical and complementary point of view. You obviously need to get the last word in, good luck living in your lala land of blinkered narrow vision.
-
Sean she is being rude, ok ruaworkerbee thankyou i did say this a few posts ago, but i have come to the conclsion that this forum is a carte blanche for a pop at someone or something.
-
Jamma you are entitled to say what you want but it comes across rudely.
-
Jamma You are very entitled to your opinion, but does that give you an excuse to be so rude about it!!! I am not very wrong we all have our schools of thought and if you do not like it, then fine but please do not be so rude, this started as a request for a dietician/Nutritionist and its turned into a free for all to put down complementary health yet again. Although Nutrition is classed in Public Health.
-
Jamma i think we will agree to disagree, you clearly have issues with complementary health, Dieticians will not admit to being medically trained, because they are not, so please get your facts straight.
-
Hy BN I agree with what you say, that is why we are going through voluntary regulation, there are colleges and courses that are very unscientific and frowned up by main stream universities. The register will only acknowledge qualifications that are approved by the NTC. I know letters after the name can be confusing but if in doubt please ask the practitioner. The registry will only acknowledge qualifications that have had at least 2 years of science, and 500 hours of supervised clinic. I am about to embark on my Msc in Nutrition, I have a degree in Nutrition and after 1000 hours of clinic, pre and post qualification I am about to do another 500 hours, my tutors are a doctor and a professor. I know not all Nutritional Therapists are trained to this level, however the Register is there to protect the public
-
Jamma do your homework first please before you expound err rubbish, Dieticians are not medically trained, they have a 3 year course like the nutritionists, the difference is that Dieticians are bound to the NHS guidelines. Nutritionists train with Doctors in universities. I cannot understand why certain forumites feel they need to rubbish us and assume we follow a certain science when we do not, we follow the science all professionals follow.
-
Bawdy I agree with you, but to an extent, as a trained Nutritional Therapist who trained to a degree level ,with three years of science including Biochemistry, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, i have to say for the majority of us we are trained to a professional level otherwise we would not be allowed to practice, I can understand certain arguments, however we are going through voluntary regulation, and if you go on to the BANT website (british association of Nutritional therapists), it will explain all about regulation and how qualified you need to be to practice. Distance learning colleges and once a month colleges are frowned upon within the the industry anyway, I always recommend university based training The NTC (nutritional therapy council) have a register listing all qualified therapists, the training and qualifications are scrutinised. There will always be cases of people having a bad experience because the therapist did not have adequate training, equally though this also happens in the medical profession. Too who is looking for a nutritional therapist, look at the bant website
