How much does this forum influence things in your life?

East Dulwich has had a community spirit for a while, actually even before the forum was born sorry admin:)) but it is obvious on here that we do have a community spirit that is also vocal whether it be negative or positive. -
Snubbed by the SNUB Winter Green Fair
monica replied to grumpydad's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Point taken and thanks michael,if we were ever to arrange a fair again we will take all your comments on board. The marquee was very last minute because of the unpredictable weather, that is why the stalls had covers they were supposed to be outside in various locations, when it started raining we had to move all the stalls inside the marquee to protect the stallholders.their products and the public,i know it was narrow but what do you do get wet or just get cosy with other shoppers;-) -

Frisco southwark have a list of risk assessment and we had to follow them to the letter,if i had 10000 to spend on the fair i would have. What ever is left after we have paid everything will go towards the East Dulwich cloth bags,we organised the fair to help fund the bags, although we have been allocated money from the dulwich community council we still need to provide bags to 3000 extra households so any fundraising by SNUB will fund the bags. -

Your points have been noted and thank you. SNUB have been in existance for 6 months, this is the first time we have organised a fair, we had a budget donated by sponsors and we had to justify every penny spent. We would have loved a bigger marquee and warmer weather but we are not miracle workers. For the last 6 months My co organiser and i have worked hard to make sure we could provide a good eco fair. I dont expect praise from East Dulwich and we are not snobs. We had to ask mums to leave the buggies outsede because of the marquee size, again down to budget all from sponsorship money. Jessie we said no to you because we had cards already so please do not lie. We did not promise a santas grotto and we tried to make sure that everyone had a good time. For every negative comment on here we have had 5 positive comments. This fair was organised by SNUB not southwark so vent your spleen on us. When you guys organise a fair i will be more then happy to come along and support it. SNUB was created on here so you have every right to attack us. -
Simon everyone is welcome, we have a marquee covering the fair so if it rains we will be covered

Snorky how long have you lived in SE22? We all have our reasons for not wanting cpz and your comment about siding with us was somewhat offensive. Everything the retailers do, yes we think of ourselves but primarily we think of the patrons of East Dulwich. We fought for 5 years,to increase parking for residents and shoppers,i myself go out and warn motorists not to park in certain areas.
-
Frisco where were you when they wanted to introduce the cpz near the station,i went to so many meetings and the initial consultation. Most of the residents of melbourne grove derwent grove, matham grove and east dulwich grove were sent letters, this was about 5 years ago

Lordship lane traders association which totaled 3 of us,myself, jay from greetings and a marvelous resident fought to lift the restrictions on lordship lane, because they were nonsensical. Iv been a trader here for over 7 years owner of a shop here 10years, and i have seen the changes from very quite to very popular which has been amazing. Of course its not perfect and the parking is an issue. When TFL decided to put a pilot bus lane on LL 5 years ago we all opposed it,but the pilot scheme went ahead, with no parking on Northbound LL from 7am to 7pm and 30 minutes southbound LL. At the same time they wanted to introduce the cpz because residents near the station were understandably fed up with parking commuters. After a long struggle with Mr tanna the resident respected chemist and party candidate supporting us we eventually had the restrictions on LL northbound reduced to no parking between 7am-10am which obviously makes sense because people are commuting that time in the morning, and parking on southbound still for 3o minutes. It was only 3 years ago we asked southwark to pay for the parking signs on LL so people could understand the parking restrictions, after 3 attempts at getting the signs to explain in clear english what the parking restrictions are,we have the estate agents parking all along LL. We have spoken to the agents and have asked them please do not park on the lane,we need to keep it clear for shoppers, and in their defence they have been cooperating. Now we have talks of CPZ again, we fought them once and there was only 3 of us,hopefully from a retailers point of view we wont have to do it again.

Southwark recycling road show will be at the wintergreen fair on Saturday,i think katlyn one of the recycling officers will be in attendance. In their defence southwark are looking at tetra pak and are looking at ways to recycle it. They are in talks with WRAP and supermarkets about recycling tetra. Someone said earlier that it could not be recycled because of the lining inside tetra was hard impossible to break down. Im sure the southwark recycling road show can answer your concerns,or southwark recycling/waste minimisation.

I will apologise in advance for the very obvious plug of the wintergreen fair but it is for a good cause in this particular thread. Someone mentioned a good bakers in Herne hill,if its the Kindred bakery, they will be at the wintergreen fair on Saturday with a stall,we also have the very fine jacks coffee house with bacon sarnies and soup who incidentally use Kindreds bakers. Enough plugs sorry >:D<

Hy Just to clarify, letters will be hand delivered we wont be using the postal service,so we wont be wasting money on stamps. The transparancy will be broken down because this project is funded by public money and unlike our intelligent chancellor we will spend the money wisely. The fair has raised money on sponsorship,in which after costs of the fair are met the rest of the money will go into future green projects for East Dulwich. Any questions? -

Lordship lane traders will be having a xmas drink that night and we thought of the plough too, looks like we may have to book,it will be a busy night -
I was in William rose today bought some meat and dave the boss gave me tips on preping it,meanwhile 3 other customers entered the store and he greeted them all very warmly, all the others were busy working. The person who initially had the problem should go in and chat to dave, and hopefully you will come to a resolution.

We are called East Dulwich SNUB because there are SNUBS all over the uk. We have a Edinburugh SNUB a wales SNUB Chester SNUB, so we are East Dulwich SNUB. Thanks for all the posts but where is the Phantom song writer of the East Dulwich Bag we have had it on at work and customers have stopped to listen and have a sing along. -
To the very talented guy who wrote the song about the East Dulwich bag thank you. its blooming great, we loved it i play at work all the time we have it on the SNUB website and i have sent the link to Rob De Bank at radio 1 a local of East Dulwich, who heard it and asked me to send him the link. Sean dear i wrote a letter to foxtons regarding their light pollution and how much enenergy they are consuming and they chose to ignore me,so what do you. I spoke to the council as well and was told very simpatetically if i lived opposite foxtons and the lights were intruding on my personal space then i would have grounds to complain. But because im thinking more of the energy consumption i dont have a chance. Residents and shoppers on LL have asked me to approach foxtons as a member of East Dulwich SNUB which i did and i was ignored. What do you do!!!!! Between trying to reduce energy usage, fighting for solar powered lights on LL and asking all the budgens and costcutter shoppers do they really need that bag for 1 packet of gum we have a lot on our plates.
