  1. I think the point is plain. But, if it'll help.. This country's populace has such low aspirations in food that Wetherspoons (goddamit, Wetherspoons) is the FIFTH most popular breakfast destination. You really didn't get the point or just like it being spelt out for you ?!
  2. Only in England could that ever be the case.
  3. They can use some of their well-earned cash to start-up another specialty brewer if they're that interested.
  4. If you want to talk about gastro pubs please go ahead, for me that's a different conversation - not one that I thought was being had. By mentioning my views in wetherspoons I'm not automatically saying anything about other establishments, that's totally on you, so don't include me. Parky - if you don't want to make sweeping generalisations well good for you, I'm impressed, I really am. But I'm generalising, it's easy, lazy, and fun. I have been in wetherspoons, a few years ago there was one when I and friends were students, they used to insist we go there because it was a 'good deal'. Jesus Christ. Even when pissed-up, you surely have to draw the line somewhere.
  5. Parky - I'm not assuming you have to be pissed to be IN a wetherspoons, I'm just saying that the only circumstances I can imagine it seeming like decent food is when pissed. I don't assume that wetherspoons customers eat kebabs, but I am saying that I can see how having a menu sat there right in front of you is going to be more convenient, in some cases to some customers, than having to get up and leave and get a kebab. Snooty - you flatter me, really. I have eaten at wetherspoons years ago and it is edible, I concede that. But no more than that.
  6. I think Wetherspoons fills a place in the market, but quality food isn't really part of the deal. It may be edible but it's last resort stuff, let's be honest. nowt snooty about wanting decent grub. if you're pissed-up I can see how the food would sell, though as it saves effort of going to a kebab house.
  7. Ooh - had one of their ibeers at Joanna's the other night, very nice it was too !
  8. There was plenty of space to sit down, I arrived between 3rd / 4th acts and 3 of us sat down easy. Wouldn't consider standing at back in crowd - too much hassle with people weaving through. Kids dancing up front was great to see.
  9. Indian sweet shops often have gold / silver leaf in them. I presume it must shine still coming out the other end.
  10. Would have made more sense if it was about drugs. Would have been less pretenders.
  11. I think using more space for the event on goose green would only work when the weather's ok. When it's grim people tend not to go in such numbers, which would perhaps be more apparent if the attractions were spread further apart - making it seem unattractive to passers by / those considering strolling over. It's infortunate, but people are like that.
  12. Sounds like you've answered your own question: "...this event has outgrown Goose green...". It was held there because it was big enough.
  13. Anyone watch the domestic boxing at the weekend ? Skeete, Mitchell, Buglioni. Good British contests. Then in Germany, Felix Sturm actually lost hit title to a non-German (a Russian) on POINTS !! Then in USA there was Alvarez v Kirkland (good first upper cut, the boy walked right on to it).
  14. Sticker on window > posting about on internet
  15. Vans parking near corners like this really gets my back up, it happens on Barry Rd a lot, where pulling-out is already a life-threatening activity ! But van drivers unfortunately have to park wherever they can just like the rest of us, as parking's at a premium in most of London...
  16. I think camberwell has 24/7 bus lane on Northbound section opposite McDonald's.
  17. It's not 24/7. I've been in it myself a few times when signs have indicated time was right. Don't remember timings tho.
  18. Put a sticker on their window - more certain of getting THEIR attention innit.
  19. A lot of those programmes / were at same time as It Ain't Half Hot Mum and Bless Thy Neighbour, Jim Davidson the comedian and other 'humorous' programmes. So race / creed was also fair game during that period and for years before. It's in the past, things have moved on, I don't think such programmes would go down well at all nowadays, regardless of whether the programming regulators would allow it. Therefore I don't agree previous TV depiction has any bearing on representation now. There's no dependency nor even any link. I'm not sure what happened then has caused damage that exists now. Most of the people from that period who still carry that mentality will be dead soon anyway, carrying their prejudice with them and hopefully freeing the rest of society from any latent influence that may have persisted.
  20. For me, it's always a roof.
  21. Many owners/tenants of Victorian conversions would welcome such a considerate neighbour !
  22. Whether a gay person groping a straight person is OK or not is surely the decision of the recipient of the grope ?
