You hit it on the head Rosie, I was not overt enough to say it myself, but yeah a massive part of relationships.

Mayfair hotel. Cleaning the toilets including scrubbing the toilets bowls and urinals, once you get into it it ain't that bad, just turning up each morning was a bit of a challenge. After 6 months I 'graduated' to Houseporter, hoovering the corridors, moving furniture, polishing mirrors, and, best of all..... ferrying the clean linen to the chambermaids in the rooms being turned over ;-)

The mindset seems always to be maintaining today's pace/activity and therefore requiring to perpetuate the energy levels needed to support it. One of the few people I have ever heard suggest that we all reduce consumption (and therefore change our pace/activity quite considerably) is Ken Livingston. If we couldn't all fly everywhere we would find other means, if we couldn't all drive everywhere we would do the same, if we could not power a fridge or central heating any more we would work around it, just like they did all through history until a hundred years ago. Nuclear will happen simply because collectively we are too into comfort to change our habits.

Friday by a country mile, end of hard working week and all that. As Joe jackson said in 1978 in his song 'Friday' : " Monday morning Friday's far away Pray you'll make it It's a magic day Bells will ring and you'll go out to play Spend your money Pass the bottle Friday rules Friday rules OK Ain't talking 'bout Monday Ain't talking 'bout Tuesday Ain't talking 'bout Wednesday Ain't talking 'bout Thursday I 'm talking 'bout . . . She don't care no more She don't need to fight it She don't care no more She gets paid on Friday "

Katie1997. NOT doomed at all from the start. Is very much down to what kind of people you both are, your (jointly) ability to commit, past relationship experiences (ie. managed long-distance previously, able to appreciate what/who you have met compared to previous partners), ability to mind your own time and enjoy yourself either alone or with friends when your partner is absent, ability to deal with problems that arise that you may have to deal with yourself. Some people need immediate 'satiation' in a relationship and see no need/value in waiting, this is fair enough but may not suit long distance/infrequent togetherness. If you're able to keep your mind 'on the ball' long distance you can have as strong and enriching a relationship as anyone, especially if the comms are there ie. letters/post (surprise parcels are a winner !), telephone, texting and emails. It's easier if you're not one of those who needs someone close by all the time and cannot function so well and confidently without a partner in the vicinity. We're all privileged to ever be in any relationship at all IMO, and long-distance in the scheme of things may not be so very bad after all.

Today I been spinning some vinyl and came across a 'bootleg' album, 1 of 3 called 'the great white wonder' there is a song I played a lot today which is variously called 'Who You Really Are' or 'Back Door Blues', version I got sounds like it's played on a 12 string guitar and the opening line and harmony knock me for six every time, sort of why I put it on this morn: "I'd rather see my coffin comin' in through my back door, I'd rather see my coffin comin' in through my back door, Than the girl I'm lovin' sayin' she don't love me no more.."

We do not have 'normal' ticket barriers at ED station to apply the ticketing controls we are used to at other stations therefore they do spot checks at ED, these kind of checks will inevitably catch-out folks who do not have tickets (intentionally or otherwise), when it comes to being caught aggression can ensue and they know there are no barriers at ED and request police back-up. The police are actually there for nothing more sinister IMO than to cope with the violence that can erupt when someone has taken a journey and mistakenly expected all/part of it to be free only to find out they gotta cough-up like the other fare payers. A failing not of the police or the ticket inspectors IMO. Funny how 'we' blame the police for the need to protect railway staff.

Cassius: "I would drink them even if there was no alcohol content " Fair point, and likewise, I get frustrated the other way round ie. why can't all bars serve one draught beer that is alcohol-free ? I would have thought if Govt was genuine about 'concerns' over alcohol consumption rates they would (and easily could) enforce it. Few people like to drink coke after coke or orange and lemonade all night, the sugar hit is gross. There are many such AF beers available and it would ease any peer pressure since they look same as alcoholic beers.

giggirl - sometimes you just have to pick whatever is today's fave ! And yeah I agree his gigs are worse than watching paint dry, nearer LISTENIN to paint dry in fact. Been to a few and just not worth it for me. So let's concentrate on his songs as it's a more positive experience !! Been playing some today and today my fave is 'Obviously 5 Believers', if ever a guy got the blues and did something with it in his own way it was Zimmy.

Peckhamgatecrasher - foul habit IMO and sick of walking past the stench before breakfast, glad they made the regulation, dissapointed they don't have the balls / gumption to enforce it. The main reason for the police being present isn't so much to protect revenue for the rail companies (or at least not directly), it's to protect the staff who are applying the fines at the checkpoints because they are often assaulted or threatened by the folks who have a view that they don't need a ticket or should not pay a fine and are prepared to stamp on the employee applying the fine. If the police were not present some people would walk right through them. Even on trains I have seen police accompanying ticket inspectors and once a mother / son combo assaulting the inspector on one occasion until the copper followed into the carriage... eater81 - why does there has to be 'my side or not' ?! Calm down I am saying why i thought the dogs were there I don't have a beef with whatever people carry in their pockets, especially the 'personal use' man on the street. I did say 'Police's point of view'. 'nitrous inhaling', this is probably nitrous oxide (NO2) inhalation, from cylinders or balloons filled from cylinders (then you [allegedly] inhale the balloon's contents), short hit fairly euphoric - all the rage with kids 14 years and up as available on internet legally.

Your favourite can obviously change daily, today my fave is: "Visions of Johanna" WHY ? Seems in a class or style of it's own for the time it was issued, perhaps at that time it sounded like what was to come (part of what was to come) in popular music. Sung with confidence, like a strong poem, never seems to tire no matter how many times you play it. Also something quite sensual about it.
