Cold calling Bayer Global Group
Lowlander replied to stacey-lyn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So what actually happens if they carry out the survey? Is that a prelude to a lengthy report saying that your house is falling down? -
Bit of woodfiller, fine grade sandpaper, 20 minutes of your time? Apply woodfiller, wait to dry, sand flush to rest of woodwork, paint if necessary. Most of the DIY shops in ED will sell you what you need.

So....what did the Police say?

Also do not worry about the mileage. A two year old car with 50k on the clock will likely have been doing motorway miles: smooth surface, few gear changes, engine running at temperature with little stress on gears or suspension. As I said my old car has 140k on the clock with no problems, this is 2013 and cars are good up to at least 250k now. Compare that with a two year old car that's done 25k miles around ED's speed bump ridden roads stressing the suspension, constantly changing gear and rarely getting to full operating temperature... You're right on new cars. ?10k! Wish I had that budget. What DaveR and Townleygreen say, although personally I'd buy a Volvo or Ford.

Big problem with a Golf/Polo is identifying which one is yours in a car park seemingly full of them! Seriously, sounds like you need a saloon or compact estate...Volvos - (mine has 140k on the clock now and has never broken down). Otherwise Ford Mondeos are also roomy and reliable What's your budget? Is a VW Golf too small? Estate too big? Age of car/brand important to you?

What does Lordship Lane need?

Does Lordship Lane not have a good bus and train service (via ED station)? Can you not park in a side street like everyone else? And if you must drive to the PO and park outside, there's a post office at the top of LL by Sainsburys where you'll never have to queue for more than 5 minutes. -

Why not just informally appeal, even if they refuse you can still get the 14 days to pay the reduced fine. Will take you half an hour and you've nothing to lose. After that you can decide whether to formally appeal, if you do, ask yourself what your time is worth, as it's a long slog, and worth doing on principle only!

How about a blanket 20mph on non-red routes? And, switch off selected traffic lights during off-peak times.

Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7

There's a Londis opposite the Palmerston on LL open 24 hours. With a big "open 24 hours" sign. -
When are they opening? Just the weather for it today!
-
John K - why? TfL support 20mph on their roads in many cases, given that the A2216 is low speed anyway, can't see much opposition for it either at the lower end or up to the Plough. Might be trickier but not impossible to impose it on the whole stretch.
-
Can't see a problem for this from the Plough Pub down to Goose Green, not many opportunites to get above 20/25 going uphill anyway, and there's been a few nasty prangs on the steep bit with traffic coming out of side streets - I'm always wary pulling out there. It would lead to a huge reduction in street furniture as it would remove the need for the 20 end / 30 start signs on all the side streets :-) I mean, what's it going to costy you - a few seconds at the most before you hit the next set of red lights anyway?

"...The one 'professional' thing you may need to be aware of is that those trains between 7am and 8.30am are going to be full and unreliable. Leave early and relax..." I'd say from 0800 onwards. I caught the 0747 from ED to London Bridge for six months until last summer and it was at least 99% reliable - the few times something went wrong, it was delayed by no more than 5 minutes. And I always got a seat.

How to find out if Overground is running this weekend?
Lowlander replied to camberlou's topic in The Lounge
? Both NR and TfL say it will take 31 minutes with two trains via Victoria or 48 minutes by bus replacement service? -
Couple of relatively unworldly friends in their early 20s went there for a fortnight in Autumn 2011, travelled all round, including to Pagan, no problems. I didn't really expect them to find Heathrow, let alone Burma, but they arrived back unscathed, with the photos to prove it.

Bought an ipad last year...arrived the next day, came in a proper Apple box, looked absolutely brand new, still working, cheaper than new new. -
Cyclists BEWARE - Sainsbury's Dulwich

Who's recommended insurance? That's a complete waste of money unless you've got a ?1000 racer. You want advice? Contact the LCC (of which I'm a fully paid up member of btw), formally write a nice letter to Sainsbury's Head Office, contact James Barber local councillor on here, the safer neighbourhood team, post a nice thread on this forum. Writing an outraged post states that Sainsbury's don't care is a bit naff considering the OP hasn't disclosed the extent of his or her communications with them. Was it just a rant to the in-store customer service desk, or correspondence with their chief executive? My bet is on the former. Happy to lose that bet. -
Cyclists BEWARE - Sainsbury's Dulwich

So what is the story with the cameras? If you have a search on this forum you'll find people have been mugged and worse in that car park, so your loss is not high on their list of priorities. I've had a locked bike nicked from the basement of my employer in the City (somehow past CCTV, two security guards and locked doors), so I know how you feel. Incidentally the CCTV showed someone in a cap wheeling the bike out, so no chance of even a vague ID. Getting angry isn't going to change anything, you need to be a little more constructive though. -
Cyclists BEWARE - Sainsbury's Dulwich
Lowlander replied to AndrewFFF's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Did you check for cameras and theft statistics *before* you left your bike? Did you have a decent lock costing at least ?50? Sorry to hear about your loss, but you have to realise the world won't stop for you. I've had several bikes stolen (not all in London either!) and no-one will care much, although venting steam on a public forum helps a little. Invest in a decent lock (at least ?50), or a cheap bike. -
I knew this would happen! This thread should be trimmed to the first two posts and locked as a sticky! Then we can take the pointless bickering back to the old thread where it belongs...
