I need to pick up some weighty items from Canary Wharf / Isle of Dogs tonight at 7.30pm. How likely is to take 45 minutes to get there from ED by car, heading up to the Rotherhithe Tunnel and east? Is this foolish optimism or about right?

There is a very useful guide on dealing with the Swiss here: http://switzerland.isyours.com/e/swiss-business-guide/wwii.html As they point out, it's definately not a business conversation! But it is something that's been missed out in Swiss education perhaps. Switzerland in essence was a very useful country and not worth invading. For the Swiss defence, well, they didn't have much choice... Anwyay, I quite like Switzerland, fascinating country and nice people once you work them out. Couldn't live there though.

Nothing. No questionnaire, no reminders, no visit. On a main residential street. I also know of a fair few people in other parts of London who either didn't get it or just ignored it. Edit: to get fined, you have to be either committed to the cause or plain daft :-)

As a "customer", I can vouch that the census is a big fat waste of time. So many people don't fill it in, or fill it it in incorrectly. For instance, in one Upland Road house got no questionnaire or reminders. How accurate is that supposed to be?
-
Love it. Sold a few bits of crap furniture on eBay with that phrase and got over twice the price of previous sales (and twice as many views). Worth its weight in gold, so to speak.

What's the total population of ED? How many new residential properties have been built since then? How accurate is the figure?

Vegetarian cafe, but as a confirmed carnivore I left there very satisfied after a fantastic breakfast. Home made bread and baked beans, mushrooms on spinach, good coffee...

Interesting, I found Sema Tha Thai on LL just as good if not better (with a fraction of the hype). A few bits of real stewing beef which beats the kebab-style stuff found everywhere.

House of Tippler does good food, The Palmerston is the best on LL with Franklins not far behind. The Draft House does an excellent burger and used to do onglet steak but no more sadly. Tandoori Nights is my favourite meat Indian, Indian Mischief the best vegetarian, and have heard good things about Curry Cabin surprisingly. Il Mirto by the station was cheap and cheerful but cramped. Further afield: Ganapati in Peckham for some of the better South Indian I've had out of South India; in Camberwell, FM Mangal (Turkish) and Wuli Wuli (Chinese) are as close to the real thing as you'll get nearby. Mr Lui on LL is in a fantastic location but disappointingly bland Chinglish food. Looking forward to trying Silk Road, Angels and Gypsies and Crooked Well. Nearer to home Dulwich Village is a huge disappointment. Crown and Greyhound in Dulwich Village does an awful roast...overcooked, with soggy roast potatoes and no veg. Not surprised to hear they are owned by same folk who own the Plough. Good places to drink though. Rocca in Dulwich Village is also disappointing, awful atmosphere and mediocre food. In short enough in ED and Camberwell is just 10 minutes by bus.

Haven't made a resolution since 1995, when I resolved to stop making resolutions. January and February are such long and dark months that I wouldn't want to give up any vices! I take up excercise again around March and slow down before Christmas.

I've used a Weber BBQ and added wood chips to smoke and cook things. Does that count? No need for DEFRA approval if used outside occasionally.

I would avoid the Plough for food...Weatherspoons standard at half the price (nothing against Weatherspoons food at their own prices).

People's personal tastes behind closed doors can be quite different to their outward persona. I wouldn't be at all surprised. Just look at the string of celebraties / politicos who've been hung out to dry in the press over the years (the one found dead with an orange stuffed in his face did raise my eyebrows a little though). I wouldn't read anything into it unless you want to get into psychology.

No musak. Scanners so that you avoid the queues at the end. Friendly staff. Partnership. Price match Tesco. Against? Slightly up their own backside, still play the supermarket game, too many multi-buy offers, crap tofu ;-) -

Phone the council first thing Monday. I'm very sure you should have had a party wall agreement for this (which should have been sent to you months in advance. In the meantime just be wary of the builders, even if they are friendly and offer to help.

There's no "cheapest" supermarket. You have to be choosy about what you buy in each one (if you have the time and inclination to trek around them all). The cheapest way is to shop on Peckham Rye. I do like Waitrose though, would save me the monthly 20 minute drive to Beckenham... -
Given the way o2 broadband is tonight, you even get that 56k modem experience! Great links to the old bbc websites. Anyone remember b boards from the lat 80s early 90s-all text based as i remember?
