There may be more. I've got a figure of one in the last ten years (and he was commited to a mental hospital) - where are your figures from? Not defending cyclists btw, too many selfish ones for my liking, I do like to bandy the right figures around though.
  2. Who else found geriatric offensive then?
  3. gerritsmith Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- ........ > Loyalty with finance companies does not pay. Err, loyalty never has. I change insurance company for contents, buildings, car, breakdown almost every year. We also change energy suppliers regularly and I wouldn't hesitate to change banks if necessary. Takes an hour a year but I save at least ?300 in the process.
  4. Also report it to the Police. PCO are (or were several years ago) very good about that sort of thing. You can search on the number here http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/businessandpartners/taxisandprivatehire/ph/licensing/
  5. To get there for 0845 I'd allow an hour and a half. Seriously.
  6. I go up to Hackney every so often, takes around 35 - 45 minutes to get to Liverpool Street if I leave at 0630. That's straight up through Camberwell / Walworth Road / Tower Bridge. Same times going over London Bridge too. It will take longer if you leave later and less time if you leave earlier.
  7. I've had mine bent inwards having parked at the top of Dunstans Rd, not broken though as my mirrors can be manually bent when parking. Thought it odd at the time as it was the pavement side...
  8. malt whisky
  9. Sounds it. I'm sure there's a Beiruti somewhere telling his friends stories about Frank's Campari Bar in Peckham. The nightlife was pretty good - better than many British towns and cities - and the local wine was top quality
  10. What was strange about it?

Oh, you could mandate fitting cars with black boxes using GPS to limit the speed in built up areas. They already have them for young drivers, insurance companies give reduced premiums if they don't drive at night...
  12. Take out all the speedbumps and put up speed cameras. Everywhere. And if you're caught, no fine, just 11 penalty points. This will stop people moaning that it's all fund raising for the government, I'd happily pay ?1 extra on council tax for this. Edited to add: I drive, so no complaining that it's some sort of crusade against hard done by motorists. I'll believe we're hard done by when people stop leaving their engine running unecessarily. Petrol clearly isn't that expensive.
  13. Christ, I once went on holiday to Beirut (true story), and people ask me if I'm crazy. I don't feel the need to berate them for it, it's not surprising, given the media's presentation. To an outsider they can look fairly intimidating, and they do have a reputation, so it's a perfectly valid question.

They also have a reputational problem, so it's a reasonable question to ask. As for chips, count yourself luckly you didn't grow up in Somalia, Liverpool or Romania - all of which are frequently name checked in the same sentence as crime.
  15. I go down that way often and having tried various options I still use the A205 south circular then A3. Other back routes run into high streets. The bottleneck is always Battersea Rise through to Wandsworth. The best thing is to leave early and go back late; I commuted for a few months from Putney to Dulwich last year and it took 30 minutes if I left at 06.30 and returned around 20.00...avoid weekends too if possible... In December you will be able to get a train from Clapham Junction to Peckham Rye..although I imagine that it would take at least an hour from Guildford with the change at CJ...
  16. This thread is the most inconclusive I've ever read - am none the wiser over who to chose
  17. My experience of indoor ariels in London is that you get everything, and friends and family for whom I've set up freeview say they're happy. From memory we have 80 odd TV channels, so with the radio ones thrown in that sounds about right.
  18. Have a look at the trees at the top of Lordship Lane, they were in the same state last year and have put out a significant bit of foliage.
  19. csaddleton Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > anyone cycle to canary wharf, i would like to know > if that's a doable ride.. 35 minutes / 7 miles from top of Lordship Lane to Canary Wharf. 20 minutes to Greenwich, 5 minutes pushing the bike through Greenwich foot tunnel, and 10 minutes up to Canary Wharf. I go Colyton Road, Homestall Road, Stuart Road, Rye Road, Surrey Road, Brockley Way, St Norbert Road, Mantle Road, Malpas Road, Florence Road and then down Greenwich High Street. Once north of the river it's straight up to wherever in Canary Wharf you want to go. Quiet back roads route with minimal gradients, so you can tailor it if you want a work out.

The NHS would disagree http://www.networks.nhs.uk/nhs-networks/spokes-the-nhs-cycling-network/messageboard/cycling-forum/896298078 And, I've cycled in for past 10 years, and it's cost me less than ?750 for the bike and maintenance in that time. Train alone would have been at least ?5k.
  21. Actually Sol has every right to a refund under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. Under this Act goods supplied must be fit for purpose and as described. The item was described to Sol as being suitable for use, which it clearly isn't. The link I posted to above contains all the info you'll need.
  22. I should emphasise that they are really really badly trained and really really ignorant. I haven't shopped there for over a decade, but the last time I went in with a friend who wanted a new stereo. The assistant, with a deadpan face, tried to tell us the one we were looking at did not have a built in radio, when it clearly did. When I switched it on and tuned it in, he was adamant that it was the CD player. This is the direct link to returning or exchanging goods http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange
  23. Currys sales staff often don't lie in my experience, they're just badly trained and ignorant of their own products. Have a look at moneysavingexpert on how to deal with these situations in future - just quote a few consumer acts, stay calm an you'll get your refund...
  24. We use these http://www.johnlewis.com/172226/Product.aspx Very effective. I presume it's a glue trap but am mystified as to why this is cruel?
  25. Agree with other comments on stuffing LL with more chain restaurants which push up rents. They're all pretty average and would make LL look like any other high street. Wagamama falls firmly into that category. What would be good would be a nice Italian restaurant.
