  1. So what you're saying is that - despite history being littered and strewn with The Shock Of The (Musical) New, from the year dot onwards - only now, circa 2011, can we say without a doubt that there won't be any more, because we've seen it all? How many people after punk declared that they'd seen it all.. only to see something completely different the next decade? Surely the point about things that are shocking/new are that they come from an totally unexpected quarter. So you've done all the drugs, pierced your gonads and you've turned your amp up to 11.. why should The Next Thing be some sort of continuation and escalation of this? In short, you can't imagine there being something totally new in music, but somebody else will.
  2. I love this thread! It's like a bunch a people debating as to whether Allo Allo is better than Dads Army. (I'm going to be controversial and go with Allo Allo)

  8. True.. once you've been to a gig where mass brawling breaks-out, the police are called, the venue gets smashed-up and the artist has to scarper through the rear door for his own protection, well.. where do you go from there? Of course that was opening of The Rite of Spring - back in 1913.
  9. Not everyone is as swift to embrace the future as they ought to be, Jah. But give it another fifty years or so and mark my words - magical musical instruments which instantly open a dimensional portal to anywhere in the galaxy - will be two a penny. And all this business about these polar monkeys and their silly guitars will be soon forgotten. Keith Richards will have one, of course - because The Stones will still be playing (the O3)
  10. I'd expect a technology-based innovation to unexpectedly bring about something genuinely new and different. As it happens, if you've got a spare $6000, you can buy it already.
  11. The Scene: a tavern, Italy, 1632. Man A: Do you think-a there will-a ever be music which is as innovative as that-a of Monteverdi? Man B: Na. I don't-a think it will-a happen.
  12. The Scene: a pub, 1944 Man A: Do you think there's ever going to be another proppa big band? Man B: Wot, like Glenn Miller..? Man A: Yeah. Man B: Nah, can't see it it happening.
  13. 'An important for its time rock band'? Welcome to middle age, Mr Ben.
  14. because he took away the fireworks, boo-hoo (Now we only have the 48 remaining other firework-related events in 'Bonfire Month')
  15. I'm starving. Is Uranus open yet? etc
  16. Don't bother cooking tonight, darling - let's get something from uranus. The possibilities are endless. Perhaps it's actually a stroke of marketing genius?!
  17. To clarify (for pedants) I mean of 'on LL' as in 'on the strip'. It is of course, already on LL.
  18. Actually, it's easier to name the ones that I would actively choose over Barcelona: Franklins, Palmerston, Indian Mischief. The rest are just 'somewhere to eat'. I can appreciate that some people seem to have had dismal experiences in B'lona (which of course I don't doubt). I can only speak from personal experience: two visits, quite decent. Maybe we got lucky. If it was on LL I'd visit it more often than I do the array of dismal 'Indian' eateries, crappy Chinese, dubious French and pointless Italians. And I suspect it would, as Lush says, do pretty well.
  19. Not really, I'm simply saying that Lordship Lane is full of crap restaurants and I'd swap Barcelona for a dozen of them, because Barcelona is better than a lot of what we have: not in comparison to other top tapas places, but in comparison to what we have. Not in comparison to other tapas places but in comparison to what we have. So thats: not in comparison to other tapas place, but "in comparison" to what we have. Ok, Dave?

  22. I agree that Barcelona doesn't stack-up against the usual top-crack tapas joints that everyone drones on about when pretending that only they know the taste of true tapas (rolls eyes) but (from a couple of visits) it's perfectly decent and I'd gladly swap it for around a dozen of the crappy eateries that currently festoon 'the lane' - and for some reason are inexplicably busy.

  24. Don't think of them as 'public'.. more 'unclassified'.
