  1. The ridiculous thing is that if the CPT were to be magically transplanted onto LL, warts and all, it would be full. People are lazy. And clearly 'non-pretentious' people are the laziest of all - that's why it's empty.
  2. The worst thing about the smoking ban is that you can smell those other 'pub and club odours' all too clearly. You know the ones I mean.
  3. I thought the LOR score was commendably restrained. When your film is nearly a week long and every other scene has several million CGI-generated orcs popping out of the screen at you, you don't necessarily want your composer screaming "THIS IS MY BIG MUSICAL MOMENT! LISTEN TO ME!!!" as well. Mohicans has a good soundtrack.. it's slightly cheesy and overblown but stays on the right side of that and is perfect for the film. I like Danny Elfman (doesn't everyone?).. his style has been copied to death now but imitation/flattery and all that. Edward Scissorhands has some of the best music-to-picture moments on the screen, in my book. All the usuals 'classic' names.. Williams, Jarre, Bernstein etc and the modern workhorses.. Zimmer, Horner, J N Howard. Films have changed though.. you just don't hear those old Huge Tune Themes too much these days as they often aren't appropriate. What about.. John Carpenter's stuff (for his own films)? Dead simple but effective. Fargo soundtrack.. one of those that sticks in my mind for some reason.
  4. AFN, I'm willing to concede that some people will be opposed to this school no matter what, if you're willing to concede that Lord Harris is a primarily a businessman whose plans to build schools ought to be scrutinised instead of blindly accepted. The initial Harris plan - based-upon cramming as many pupils as possible into a cheap and unfit-for-purpose building - has now been rejected under such scrutiny. I don't deny that there will be elements of both objection on-principal and NIMBYism amongst the scrutineers, but I think the result is the right one, whatever the motives. As to where it goes from here.. we shall see.

You're right.. he certainly seems to have all the credentials one looks for RE the building of a new school.
  6. Don't get me wrong.. I love the old place too But I can't be arsed to go there for a drink either
  7. It's a perfectly decent normal pub for the sixteen regulars who want to drink there, but I would suggest that the other 99.999999999% of East Dulwich have voted with their feet and go elsewhere, pretentious or not. If you're so fond of the place you should put your money where your mouth is and get down there for drink once in a blue moon, my girl!
  8. Do you regularly patronise the CPT then, Louisa? Or do you just admire it from afar.. like everybody else?
  9. Does he have a car? You could curl one down the side of the driver's door, then when he discovers it, rush-out with your bog brush, apologise profusely and clean it off.
  10. He did his best.. with the limited technology available at the time.
  11. There's a snootiness amongst many classical listeners when it comes to film score music.. or indeed any sort of 'modern' music. If Bach were alive today, he wouldn't be writing for an orchestra.. he'd be doing CHOONS.
  12. The 'no work clothes' thing is just plain stupid. Not only do you alienate tradesmen who would otherwise come-in for a lunchtime and post-work pint, it also gives the impression that it's the kind-of place which 'troublemakers' need to be excluded from. Like people wearing overalls can't have a drink without starting a fight.

  14. I agree it's a good idea in principal. But (for most people) once you've been.. you been. The mix of stuff in there isn't right and there isn't enough stock or turnover of stock to make you want to go back. It needs a couple of surefire winners in there to get the rest going. A couple of ChiChiRaRas would do the trick. It's the sort of place that would really benefit from having a nice cafe inside too - something to get people through the door regularly - but obviously there are space considerations (and I wouldn't know about licence issues).
  15. "GOLF SALE"?
  16. superb onions ? ?

  18. There's no need for Peckham to be left out come the revolution. The State will not have been officially smashed until someone's put-out a window over at MaccyD's.
  19. I look forward to The Anarchists swarming up LL in their Adidas trainers before going home to dicuss their UCAS application with Mummy and Daddy.
  20. Good stuff. Let us know when the machinery of the capitalist machine has been dismantled.
  21. 'Mind Your Language'?

After self-righteously spitting the dummy over a kebab gag, you've now managed to choose a television show which is simply packed to the rafters with dubious jokes centred around national/racial stereotyping. Bizarre.
  23. Anyone seen 'Alien versus Predator' yet?
  24. What does 'musically creative' mean?
  25. Ha ha.. having a look through someone's added dictionary is alway good for a laugh. "E.. D.. F.. 3.. f**k, f**king, f**kin', f**ker, fookin' etc etc" mockney piers Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > unless you add it to your dictionary then 'eval' > appears a lot. > You should see my dictionary, it'd make your mum > blush!!
