New Restaurant opening on Forest Hill Road
Growlybear replied to ZEHRA's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Will the new Anatolia be opening at lunchtimes as well or will it just be evenings like in the past? -
Perhaps it was more a question of wondering why on earth a woman with two little children would want to take them into a crowded pub at lunchtime?

New Restaurant opening on Forest Hill Road
Growlybear replied to ZEHRA's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you're going to be in the same premises, it will still be quite a small restaurant, and I assume that you will still only open in the evenings. At the risk of upsetting some people, there are now a number of 'child friendly' restaurants in the area, so I would love to see the new Anatolia towards adults who would prefer NOT to have to spend their hard earned money eating in a restaurant packed full of children at night. -

If they get their meat from the same source as when they were open last time, you won't find better steak anywhere than the they serve at Anatolia. -
New Restaurant opening on Forest Hill Road

Anatolia was always my favourite restaurant for miles around. If you are really reopening as Anatolia with the same management, rather than opening as a different restaurant but with the same name, then please don't change a thing! Please keep the old menu, and most importantly, use the same supplier for your meat! -
Dulwich Art Gallery Antiques Road Show

My friend knows the lady with the comb very well. I went to the AR last summer - they were very rude about my priceless heirlooms. It turns out they weren't quite as priceless as I thought :)) -

Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?

There is nothing at all to stop you from doing this. Although there is a No U turn sign a little further down the road, this applies to the possible space for a U turn where the sign is located, and does not apply to the gap you are referring to just after the Wood Vale turning. It is is safe to make a U turn, then there is nothing to say you can't. -
Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?

I live in one of the road where there is currently a 20 mph limit, and it is generally ignored. -
Consultation on 20mph zone across East Dulwich?

I am generally in support of the introduction of one way traffic in that part of Melford Road, but as others have said, ONLY if one of the right hand turns into either Wood Vale or Underhill Road is reinstated. I was very angry at the total lack of consultation with the so-called traffic calming measures in Wood Vale, but Southwark Council have completely ignored our protestations and our grave concerns that the resiting of some of the speed cushions to directly outside our house, which is currently starting to show signs of further subsidence, will make the situation even worse. I'm sure that this current consultation exercise won't make any difference whatsoever to Southwark's plans - they will do exactly what they want to do, as always, and completely ignore the views of the council tax payers. -
My daughter was one of the 12-20 year olds down at the front :)) The last time Korn were at Brixton a couple of years ago, I took her, and they were brilliant. Now she's a bit older and doesn't need an adult with her, I wasn't allowed to go. I spent the evening feeling miserable and wishing I was there. :(

What's wrong with a bookmaker? I'd much prefer to see a new bookie than yet another trendy cafe. At least it will hopefully be somewhere that adults can go and get some peace from pushchairs! :))

Co-Op Forest Hill Road - thoughts

MadWorld74 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > move with the times...everything needs an update > now and then Why? there's a big difference between an update and ripping the heart out of an area. Is there really a need for people who move into an area to spoil the character that people who have lived there for decades have enjoyed? -
Co-Op Forest Hill Road - thoughts
Growlybear replied to seanmlow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I remember the days when we still had the wool shop and butcher in Forest Hill Road, not to mention the lovely Casa Natalina restaurant, which only lasted for a couple of years. I'm worried that even Anatolia will have been yuppified when it reopens after its facelift. -

Scholarships to the public schools are awarded for educational merit, irrespective of the parents' income, and the highest achieving children in the entrance examination are invited to sit a further test followed by an intervew. Bursaries are awarded on a means tested basis and are available to anyone who is offered a place at the schools but whose parents cannot afford the fees. At the time my daughter transferred to secondary school four years ago, she was offered the maximum scholarship for Alleyn's, which was 33% off the fees. A friend of hers was given a 100% bursary to Alleyn's because her family income was very low. -

But my heart sinks when I see people asking for 'more up market' shops. Forest Hill Road has always been a local parade of ordinary shops, and the last thing it needs is more trendy Lordship Lane-style shops with inflated prices. I also don't understand why on earth people would want to see the bookmakers closed down? This immediate area is gradually being changed beyond recognition - we have already seen pubs like the Moore PArk Hotel closed down and the Herne and Forest Hill Tavern changing from the nice traditional pubs they have been for decades to ghastly gastro-pubs; and the Herne in particular is now more like a mother and toddler group at times than a proper pub. Surely it's time to stop ruining the area and driving the people who have lived here for decades away? -
I'm not sure where I'd draw the line. If someone dumped a mattress in my back garden, it would be fairly apparent where it had come from, so I'd chuck it back over the fence. If it was my front garden, then I'd put it out on the street and call the Council. Same with building rubble. Dead pets are a different matter - if they weren't too badly decomposed, I might have them stuffed and put them on my mantelpiece.

Soz Mrs Bear! Blimey if you call what he did not getting arsey, I'd hate to see him when he DOES get arsey! I know what I'd do if my neighbour popped up over my wall lugging a 12' plank!

I guess how you saw the Plough six years ago comes down to personal opinion. I used to use it regularly around that time, before it was refurbished, and it was a nice, traditional pub, with ordinary people. It has changed beyond recognition, as have most of the pubs in the area. Give me the Magdala when it was a 'hole' over a poncey, plastic pub like the Plough is now any time.

Sorry, but I think it's incredibly petty to get so wound up by someone chucking 20 cigarette ends into your garden over a couple of week that you would start a thread on a forum about it! And I'm Mrs Bear ;-)

I think all of those pubs used to be much better before they were refurbished, particularly the Plough - that used to be a really nice pub a few years ago.

The only thing I'd be likely to chuck over my wall would be my neighbour if he was petty enough to complain about a few cigarette ends! :))
