  1. Passiflora, I think Sue might be questioning whether mentioning the fact that the new manager is a woman is necessary? I am also definitely not the only person I know who winces at the word "lady" either.
  2. Currently outside Barclays bank on LL. Two women had stopped and were warned by a passing young woman that he was known around here, and he continued to verbally abuse the young woman, and me!
  3. From a tenants point of view, I think cutting out the agents is the best decision we ever made. Not only did we save ourselves a LOT of money, but it was so much nicer to actually meet the landlord- giving both us and the landlord a chance to express any concerns, set any ground rules, run over the contract and ensure a level of trust etc. In a way, it has also made us respect the property even more, knowing how much our landlord loved it previously and how nervous she was about letting it! We also love having direct contact with our landlord now via WhatsApp to quickly ask her any questions etc, as opposed to going via an agent who sometimes in the past made us feel like a nuisance. There is also in increase in landlord-tenant direct websites, such as OpenRent and Spareroom (where you can advertise 1 bed flats, etc).
  4. Typically selfish and ignorant behaviour from Alleyn's (and those working for them) yet again. We live close by too and have struggled for years with their unwillingness to consider the residents who live nearby. Perhaps a report might do the trick, but without wanting to sound too pessimistic, I have found the blame just gets pushed backwards and forwards and nothing is ever actually chased up. Good luck!

I managed to speak to the next door neighbours who said they rarely saw the people who lived their. Chickened out of knocking on the door or anything like that but checked the surrounding areas for the hard drive- wishful thinking right!

In my opinion Art degrees are slightly different I'm afraid!
  8. Robert Poste's Child - my thoughts exactly. The crime has now been assigned to a specific officer 'dealing with the case' who he is yet to hear from. In the meantime, we feel that with the knowledge that we believe we have with regards to the tracker, this only encourages people to take matters into their own hands, and in some ways encourages further crime?! ianr- luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it), one of the few things they didn't steal was his mobile so standing outside and ringing would not help in this case. As Robert Poste's Child and Kid Kruger have said, we are very close to making a move and knocking and asking to buy it back!!!

Oh wow, thanks for this! Quite interesting, i'll definitely get him to do some research and check out the sub on reddit. > I know it's an extra expense, but, sadly I guess > he's unfortunately learnt first hand that without > an offiste backup, your data is about as safe as a > biscuit at a tea party. Great analogy- Yes he has, onwards and upwards!

In my experience, even after having to fork out for all the rising uni-fees and material costs, iMacs and MacBooks etc unfortunately do become more of a necessity than a luxury. The landlords insurance only covers the property in case of a "forced" entry, which apparently isn't this. The landlords insurance doesn't cover his lodgers property anyway. Thanks for your advice, he's taking it all on the chin and knows how to better prepare in the future!

The iMac and Laptop etc belonged to (and were stolen from) my boyfriend, who is currently technically a "lodger" in a shared house. The dodgy landlord claims he has house insurance, but we have been informed that as there was no sign of damage upon entry (they slipped the latch), the house insurance doesn't cover it. We have both recently graduated from Uni, and we are both just getting steady on our feet both financially and in new jobs etc. I guess life after uni for us has been about making sure we can afford rent and food each month, and not currently additional extras (and luxuries?!) such as insurance. I guess an extra 20 quid a month for contents insurance doesn't seem like a lot (especially in circumstances like this), but to some it is! The hard drive is "irreplaceable" as no, unfortunately it was not backed up. I will tell him about Carbonite for the future, but at the moment he is pretty gutted as all his hard work from Uni and his Art were backed up from his Mac to his hard drive. I guess this will teach us! Thanks Sue for your recommendations. As he was planning on moving over the next couple of months, I guess contents insurance was something that was on the horizon of us thinking about, but unfortunately never got round to. We will definitely be looking at contents insurance now, knowing that the house insurance doesn't cover it.
  13. Not planning on doing anything stupid just yet :) just weighing up options and i suppose trying to be tactical and clever! Thanks rendelharris, if nothing is taken further I will indeed be asking to speak to their commanding officer. John L - good point. I have contacted a few local pawn and gadget shops, have checked on eBay, gumtree etc. Was stolen this morning at approx 4am along with other treasured items, i suppose they might have shifted it all by now. Sorry to hear about your iPhone, perhaps we start a vengeance volunteer group for our own peace of mind...
  14. From what I can gather from a little bit of research, the property is a particular property, although might be converted into 2 flats or something similar. Unfortunately no insurance (!!!), will see what avenue we can take and whether we can push for a warrant. So frustrating knowing that your treasured items and irreplaceable hard drive are a stones throw away from your home from where it was stolen! Thanks so much for your advice peckham_ryu
  15. Hi All... Just after a little bit of advice re an iMac and Laptop that were stolen last night- they are coming up on find my iPhone and so we can locate the current address of the devices. Police are aware of the new location (and the burglary) but say there isn't really much they can do apart from do a quick drive round the area and not enter any property... has anyone ever experienced a situation like this / recommend any steps of what to do without alerting the burglars that we know where they are? Thanks!

  17. Just seen a brief argument break out between two young males on the corner of Fellbrigg Road and North Cross Road. One guy got on his bike and rode away just as a young woman stepped in to intervene and get her friend (the guy without the bike) to stop. The young male on foot then quickly put on a balaclava and chased the bike up North Cross Road towards Barry Road direction. He then returned minutes later, shouting at the young woman to grab something, woman looked hesitant, both entered a property on Fellbrigg, young male returned soon after walking quickly with balaclava and a backpack towards lordship lane. Have reported to the police, but in the meantime if anyone else spots this male, please also report to the police to help with his whereabouts.
  18. I used to work at the East Dulwich branch of Jo Partridge, and I honestly wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I wasn't treated very well, and I'm afraid to say that the customers weren't treated very well either... I'm not surprised that this has happened to you, but I'm sorry to hear of your experience! I can second any recommendations for willis b :)
  19. Have just posted this on the original thread: When passing earlier today at around 8:15pm, I saw the beginnings of what looked like a raid starting to take place, with 4 or 5 tow trucks lined up along Blenheim Grove, and an argument starting to unravel between what I assume were the drivers of the tow trucks and the presumed owner of the garage who was kicking up a fuss.. in the meantime having read Peckhamguy's story of events that had unfolded, with the owner being tasered, I was under the impression that the dog would be in safe hands... however... I have just passed the garage on my way home and initially I thought it all seemed quiet. Then the guy in front of me (on the phone), stopped at the garage, looked into the gates, signalled to whoever he was on the phone to and was let in to the garage by someone from the inside... the dog proceeded to bark. The same bark that I, and many of you, have heard for the last month, scrapping any hope that I had earlier this evening. It seems that although the garage was supposedly raided, the dog is still there and still barking. The whole thing is very dodgy and very suspicious and I will be making my best efforts first thing in the morning to ring the RSPCA for the millionth time sad smiley

  22. Thanks again, all! Having a word with the owner of the garage might be a good idea, but not sure I would feel comfortable doing this considering the greeting my housemate received the other day... the motor garage itself always seems a little bit dodgy anyway? Can't speculate though!
  23. Sorry, yes.. called the RSPCA earlier and said it wasn't good enough that nothing was being done, they said that "it sounds as if the law is not being broken and therefore won't be able to send someone out, who could be sent out to other emergencies"... have tried calling the other numbers too, not as helpful as previously hoped- suggested I monitor the timings of the barking, any visitors etc. Finding it really difficult to know how to take this further!
  24. Hi all, Thanks for your replies and your concerns.. Agree that more should be done, will definitely look into those other animal rescue charities this evening and see if they can provide any help/advice re this poor dog! Didn't get a chance to go past today, but asked my other housemate to keep an ear out on her way home from the station, but she said she didn't hear anything. I am going to investigate further tomorrow, hopefully before the garage closes and also after it has already closed... Have just googled the locations of those 4 garages, thank you Ianr, and my housemate have now recognised the location as JCM Autos! Fingers crossed!
