  1. Agree with Nero / Weegee.
  2. Where was my invite EatsDulwich? Sounds like an ideal way to spend a Saturday morning.
  3. Do the Salvation Army at Denmark Hill still offer bargain accommodation? Another thread mentioned that they provide rooms etc. for people with sick relatives in King's and would be in keeping with their ethos to help with situations like this?
  4. Sandperson Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > To be fair it's been so long in the refurbishment > my memory of it even being open has faded. ;-) >:D<
  5. END of September?! This is getting ridiculous.
  6. new mother Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > undiagnosed breech? good god, how did that happen > in the modern age?! Surprisingly it does happen - I personally know three other people (not in Dulwich) who had a similar experience!
  7. V.annoyed with the Giselle quotes in Metro, especially those relating to labour (e.g. "it is called labour not a holiday", "I did lots of yoga to prepare", "I wasn't expecting anyone else to get the baby out for me"). Am probably feeling over-sensitive as am heavily pregnant and not a supermodel! Purely gossip, and on another topic, but with respect to SJP's surrogate twins, d'you think she used her own eggs, or the surrogate's / a donor's? I read (in "quality" publications such as Heat magazine) that often older celebs who have babies use donor eggs.
  8. I am hoping for a (hospital) VBAC this time and have been confused about stuff I have read about induction and an initial chat with a consultant at Kings, which seem to suggest that the medication (prostaglandin / synotocin) used in induction / to help speed things along can increase the chances of problems with the C-section scar. Am wondering whether, if I go too overdue or have a slow labour, will need to consider a second C-section instead of VBAC, but I might've interpreted things wrong. Went into natural labour at 40weeks + 4 days with my first baby, who was undiagnosed breech. Am going to ask about all this at my next midwife appointment. All these options / decisions are so confusing!
  9. Cazz, If you know of people who could do a better job, why not suggest them to the people who do the temp recruiting?
  10. George at Asda and New Look maternity wear is bargainous. Or ebay.
  11. Am reminded of a good friend who, when out in busy cafes, became enraged when people sat down at tables to nab seats before queing for their food and beverages. He considered this to be terrible, anti-social behaviour. It got beyond complaining to bemused friends / family: he would actually confront strangers in cafes. At the time, he was not in a good place in terms of his mental health and now looks back with embarrassment/amusement.
  12. Oh dear, is really hard isn't it, hope he settles down soon and starts to enjoy himself. Not sure what to suggest. We have found that having a good "key worker" (who is in for all or at least most of the time our daughter is at nursery) has helped. Our daughter has been in nursery for over a year and has only ever been resigned to it rather than keen, though she goes in without complaint, but she is a lot younger.
  13. Is a shame that the community midwives haven't been helpful - in 2008 after similar problems I had some great one-to-one feeding support at home from one of them. My little one had lost a fair amount of weight and was screaming constantly in hunger for the first few days, poor thing. Some good tips she gave (others have already mentioned most of them) included expressing small amounts then syringing some into the baby's mouth at the start of a feed (which helped calm her down - she was going into big rages / screaming with frustration, which wasn't helping with the latch-on), stripping her / me down to cool her down / keep her awake, feeding when she was calm rather than already hungry and agitated and using lots of skin-to-skin contact to help calmness. In terms of technique, it also proved helpful to lift up the boob from below and shove a big mouthful of nipple / boob into her mouth! Felt quite odd at first, but did the trick! Sounds like you're making progress, hope things settle down soon.
  14. What d'you mean by "natural pregnancy"?
  15. Maybe try the classifieds section? Amazon book reviews are usually helpful. Dulwich library has a good section on fertility / pregnancy and can also arrange inter-library loans for 50p I think. Or ebay!
  16. I am pregnant and would rather have the vodka than the fags.
  17. We have left loads of junk in our yard and 90% of the time it goes, saving lots of trips to the tip!
  18. Hi all, it was nice to meet up, shame about the nasty weather, maybe better next time.
  19. Am planning to come along, feeling optimistic about the weather!
  20. I am registered with the Lanes and am planning a hospital birth and have been told that they will check me out, help decide when to go into Kings and with the transfer, but not stay at the hospital.
  21. An elderly lady in our road puts cones out when her family come to visit, and sometimes for neighbours as a favour, but she doesn't match Otto's hard-man description!
  22. Hi ladies, For anyone feeling down on themselves / their body would recommend Gok's TV programme, can't remember the name, but is uplifting! I found WWatchers on Monday eves good too, found it fine when breast-feeding, in fact it helped me to eat enough of the right stuff (the b-feeding points allowance is the envy of many of the other ladies!), though having lost most of the baby weight seriously lapsed in 2009 and put it all back on (am now pregnant again, 7 months and bigger than ever!). Needed the weekly weigh-in, with the online version was easy to avoid the scales!
