  1. Hi. Am thinking of starting a men's self-help group, what with all my experience of my male friends' problems. Not only to do with women's issues, but also men's experience of having to work as sole breadwinner in this economic crisis. Any takers? I'm offering a safe place to offload your issues. Maybe ?10 an hour? Do pm me.

Hello? If some bites to people who are allergic are not dealt with they can turn septic, followed by gangrene, followed by amputation. Don't be so blase(my computer doesn't do French accents, sorry). And they can be very debilitating and extremely painful, leading to an actual inability to walk, hence the days off.
  3. What I objected to when one of them came round a couple of days ago was that he started his spiel by saying: "As you probably know, there has been a spate of burglaries in this street recently." To my knowledge this is untrue - to fearmonger like that is bad enough, but it could really distress an elderly resident. He was also incredibly pushy, taking a step forward towards me while saying: "Is it ok if I come in?". I had to square up and say firmly that no, it was not ok, and shutting the door on him.
  4. The food banks are a vital lifeline, and I shall definitely give what I can - but it's unbelievable that this is happening in Britain. Absolutely unbelievable.
  5. Oh really: "... the couple went on to have two children of their own, Jessie - a schoolfriend of Ms Dynamite - and Matthew, a golf prodigy who attended an elite training academy in Florida." Taken from: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/why-tessa-chose-her-job-over-her-marriage-468695.html
  6. Can you believe it's come to this...
  7. Again, ????, spot on when you wrote: "She treated the public with contemp by 'splitting' from her husband and then seeing him most weekends and Christmas. I think that lacks integrity and an insult to us." And to Maxii, when you write: "If TB can carry on with an air of sanctimony and celebration that takes the breath away then it should be no surprise his followers are equally brazen." Brazen is the word, and same in Tessa's case, regarding her recent 'reconciliation' with her husband. They couldn't care less about what we 'little people' think.
  8. If you read the two posts about Mitchell more carefully, you'll see no one is comparing Tessa directly with him. He was just cited - as it's topical at the moment - as an example of an out-of-touch politician behaving badly.
  9. Quite ????. And isn't it telling the Mitchell used the word 'plebs' to the policeman, as well as 'know your place'. This is the kind of terminology that reflects how these politicians see the rest of us 'little people'. Especially the Tories. But frankly, I imagine it's how 'New' Labour see us too - witness Tessa's very own personal hero Tony Bliar staying at that super-rich creature Berlusconi's villa, never mind her own husband's dealings with him. And her husband was let off on a 'technicality' - time ran out, basically, after he was convicted. But what does La Jowell say? "The byzantine nature of Italian justice is something that is very hard to explain." And yet the Italians were good enough for her, Tony Blair and her husband at the time they had dealings with them. Ugh.
  10. Pointless if it had gone the way it started, yes - but at least Tessa Jowell now knows that some of her constituents at least are not happy at the way politicians of all parties in this country are behaving - and that we aren't as stupid as they think and we don't have short memories. And at least she engaged with us here briefly and acknowledged not all of us are so besotted!
  11. Tessa - if it is such a great privilege to represent us, then why don't you come and live among your esteemed constituents? And as your intention is to continue as an MP, then I and many others here will continue to judge you by the company you keep.
  12. Oh God...
  13. Me too ????. What's more, she took - and now takes - us for idiots. And it looks like some of us are, sadly. This 'reconciliation' is just so blatant. Sigh. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1511669/Jowells-job-on-line-over-mortgage-link-to-bribe.html
  14. Maybe the politician who chose to be dishonest with her constituents and the country at large by possibly pretending to split up with her husband after he was found guilty of accepting a bribe is the reptile, no?
  15. Very sad not to be so cynical. Does it not occur to you that there was no 'split', merely political expediency. Are you really not struck by the timing of this 'reunion'?
  16. Quelle surprise... not.
  17. Rent have 'doubled in past two years'?! Who are these greedy landlords?
  18. The Ghost and Mrs Muir (with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison) Brief Encounter La Gloire de mon Pere Schindler's List Amelie Look at Me (French film Comme une Image by Agnes Jaoui who also stars) Hedd Wyn (Welsh film nominated for best 'foreign' film Oscar! Bloody cheek) Hilary and Jackie Wall-E Lemon Tree (palestinian-jewish Israeli collaboration)
  19. No wonder they were so bad-tempered when I went in there a couple of weeks ago! But actually, despite my horrendous experience of being frog-marched out during a lampshades contretemps, I do sympathise. I have fond memories of meeting friends in there for many a lovely brunch when they used to serve food. Maybe they shouldn't have given it up?
  20. Ahhh. He's turned down the volume a bit. I can still hear him, but it's no longer like a foghorn! My second phone call obviously worked. Woman couldn't have been nicer. When I said he obviously likes the sound of his own voice, she said: 'That's men for you!'. Ha ha! (sorry chaps...)
  21. Hi. Not Ideal. Is anyone else fed up of the shouty scaffolders working at Goose Green primary school? I live at least 15 gardens away from them, but all day Friday and now again this morning there's this sergeant major type barking orders at his men. I know they're just doing their work, but it surely isn't necessary for him to shout so loudly that I can hear it as clear as a bell quite far away. If he shouted at half the decibels his men would still hear him loud and clear. I rang Ideal, the firm they work for, this morning and a very nice woman answered. She said she'd give them a ring, but it's no better. If anyone is affected by it (maybe I'm just being over-sensitive, but I'm already getting a headache from it again on what is a very rare lovely summer's day) perhaps you'd like to ring the office too. It's 0208 293 0456
  22. Good for you e-dealer! Katie 1997 wrote: '...that is supposed to be strictly about East Dulwich issues.' er, Katie. Is that not just a tinsy-winsy bit, er, fascistic? (Am I invoking Godwin's law here?)
  23. I think it's nice to have a bit of the Archers in East Dulwich. (It is wet, I have to agree. East Dulwich, not the Archers).
  24. Ha ha, red, yes, the perfect squeegees. And dbboy, I did wonder that (just to stop myself getting paranoid!). Mind you, would owners of Fiat Puntos do such a thing?!
