My windscreen wipers have been nicked!
buddug replied to buddug's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I wondered if it was just vandalism at first, but saw how carefully they had been taken off, without breaking or bending the attaching bits. So wipers can be sold on? -

I know James. And in this weather! It's also an extra cost I could do without at the moment... -

Will do. Just baffled as to why anyone would take them. -

Car was parked in Everthorpe Road off Oglander Road. No, haven't reported it. Didn't seem like a spate, as it was just my car...(?) -
Just discovered windscreen wipers have been stolen. Why would anyone do that? Can they be sold? Nobody else's in immediate vicinity have had theirs taken.

My water's gone off too! Oglander Road, 1am. Just managed to fill kettle for wash and a few jugs. Hope it's back on in morning!

I'm beginning to wish I hadn't posted anything as it seems to have had the opposite effect as to why I posted in the first place I only posted as my sister in law prompted me to Don't think I'll be back anytime soon' Don't be silly. You've highlighted another incident which may well be linked to this recent awful attack, which is useful for us all to know. Don't let my rather pedantic observations get to you!

Hi johnlward. I know. But every time you read a rape story in the news, it always says 'she claimed to have been raped'. It gets many women's backs up. You never read: 'He claimed to have been mugged' or 'He claimed to have been beaten to a pulp'. It's always 'A man was mugged', or 'A man was beaten up' etc. And 'confronted' was a bit strong - like she was deranged or aggressive or something. Again casting doubt on the veracity of her story. I'm sure you didn't mean it to come across like that, but two of us 'wimmin' noticed it! Not to worry. I think it just shows how we do start to emulate how the press talks about these things. I know I do!

Computed shorty wrote: '...the only heat was from the cast iron Range where on top black soot coated kettles boiled all day, if the front was open then we felt some heat.' And I lived in't hole in't road'! But seriously, your account was so vivid, I could imagine you all there (you can't half write, you know!). I'm only 53 (I say 'only'), but I remember having tin baths as a child in front of the kitchen fire at my grandmother's. Happy days. And so moving when you said: 'If I could take my place today at that table eight of the seats would now be unoccupied'. Beautifully put and brought a tear to my eye. Life, eh?

'confronted' 'claimed' Yes, Alice, I noticed johnlward's use of those verbs at the time too. Words are very powerful, especially when they are about women being attacked in any way.

Loz wrote: 'Hmmm. Trolling, much?' No, not trolling. What Jeremy etc are proposing, from the kindness of their hearts actually, but quite misguided, is a curfew on women. So some women, quite naturally, are therefore turning the tables, maybe playing devil's advocate, and saying, hang on, maybe it's a curfew on men we need. You see, a minority of men do these dreadful things - an absolute minority - but while they do, all men are tainted by this. Not fair, I know. But don't expect us women to cower at home and not have a social or work life. The heartening thing about this is all the men who are posting expressing horror, empathy and dismay over this attack.

Control yourself - you're already suffering from compassion fatigue! Jacob and poor Clarence fine, but take to the back streets to avoid the rest. And if you find yourself walking an extra couple of miles a day doing that you'll find yourself losing pounds you can afford with the exercise!

Will there be food - hot dogs or something?

Sorry. :-$

Police description: "assaulted by a black male". Oh dear, that's sure to bring out the bleeding heart liberals on the forum. Sigh. For God's sake, police, don't give people any information that could help catch this creep.

Chic and northlondoner, you're behaving like trolls. Why have you and others decided to hijack this thread? The original poster has a valid concern. I smell some nasty bullying going on...
-
I was keeping up, actually (although often I don't!) - that's why I said "this woman that Emser is talking about..." to distinguish her from the Woman in Pink, who has nothing to do with the original poster's story. And I just thought we should return to that, out of respect for Emser's experience, if nothing else. By the way, isn't it hot again!
-
This woman that Emser is talking about actually came into her back garden through other people's back garden, for God's sake. I would have been somewhat freaked out too. And what's more, Emser was kind enough to spend 20 minutes talking to her before making her excuses and going inside. I'd have fled indoors immediately and called the police. What's wrong with some of you? Mind you, the post about the Lady in Pink was asking for trouble...

What is East Dulwich Missing - Food Wise
buddug replied to SweetShopDan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
'A good lebanese restaurant,as i dont think there are any in dulwich.' But would they let any men in? -
Gavain: 'Are you the person who advertises S&M sessions on the common late at night?' A peace of cake: 'No i sell all occasion cakes' Hilarious!
-
So, would anyone be interested? Tonight am experimenting with a new dish: Chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella and home-made pesto. Can't wait!

Anniversary meal - recommendation for where to go?
buddug replied to sillywoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just had yet another fabulous evening at Le Chardon. Packed yet service was excellent and amazingly fast considering the numbers there. Food wonderful. I've often dined alone there as a treat to myself after a day's gardening and have always been made to feel welcome, despite still wearing my gardening clothes! This time I took a friend and she was very impressed. The maitre d' as always the hostess with the mostess, despite being rushed off her feet. Highly recommended. -
I'm impressed, Atticus! And as I don't have a dishwashing machine... maybe you and PeckhamGC could do alternate shifts.
-
Thanks PeckhamGC for your moral support. (and a "plongeur" would be great! But honestly, I'm not Rachel Khoo!...)
