This might be a good opportunity to remind us all to donate some of our unwanted [and decent!] things. Or donate as an option to helping with the refugee crisis. http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/about-us/emergencies/child-refugee-crisis-appeal?utm_campaign=refugee&utm_medium=ppc&utm_source=refugeecrisisappealppc&sissr=1

Large vans parking on residential street?
Jacqui5254 replied to Calsug's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip

Blah Blah, I think that sometimes people just need to put their thoughts out there for a bit of reassurance, support or clarification. Not really necessary to knock them on the head about it. And there are 3 large vehicles not one. Personally I would feel quite irritated, especially with the early wake-up noise. But I would feel better with a bit of sympathy if nothing could be done! -
Sunday brunch before it becomes Sunday lunch...?
Jacqui5254 replied to Jacqui5254's topic in The Lounge
Thanks for the recommendations! Decided on ToastED. Delicious breakfast...granola,coffee, eggs, bacon, avocado on toast [partic. delicious altho' the toasted bread was so hard I couldn't cut through it, even with a steak knife]. Plenty of friendly and helpful staff around but we happen to have a slightly dozy member..[obvious that the staff on late Saturday night were trying to function on Sunday morning!]. Still, the place continues to have a good reputation in my book. Must go more often. -
Would appreciate any recommendations for a long-ish Sunday brunch this weekend. I realise that, come 12md, brunch becomes a big roast Sunday lunch so anwhere that allows brunch past 12 would be appreciated. Near Lordship Lane would be ideal.... thanks! Jacqui.

I imagine it is a reflection of the donations received. How many people actually have donated 'high end designer clothes and shoes' since the shop opened?

Parking wardens ticketing near Sainsbury's, LL
Jacqui5254 replied to Nigello's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As they should do, ticketing the selfish parkers who leave their cars in the bus lane whilst they nip into Sainsbury's. Plenty of spaces in the side roads, people. One person in a car, many people on the bus, trying to get home. No excuse. -
Sorry to hear that, BeeGee. No matter how much it happens to everyone else, it's still a miserable thing for you to wake up to.

DALeast would be a great choice, Ingrid. I would prefer him to be given free rein tho',rather than commission a piece related to the area. Thanks again for all your hard work!

Am with you on that one.

Mad van driver by ED station.
Jacqui5254 replied to Concerned motorist's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Zebedee Tring, I did understand that it was aimed at male drivers and was responding as one of the very sort of women drivers you point out are on the receiving end. But, as a female who has had nasty unpleasant hand gestures from male drivers over what they perceived as criticism [eg me pressing the horn when I been cut up or someone not indicating and me nearly hitting them], I would not want to end up trading nasty sexual insults as a form of acceptable communication. I wouldn't dream of challenging someone's manhood as a way of tell him his driving is shit. Nor do I think it would lead to them improving their driving skills! On a practical note, I think it's time drivers had to sit regular driving test refreshers. Too many drivers have lost sight of what proper, good driving is expected, eg, what uncleglen said about drivers forgetting who'se right of way it is on a roundabout. A lot of people get in their cars and drive forward. All the stuff about checking mirrors, leaving enough space for cars to open their doors, making sure the zebra crossing is clear before driving over it, who's right of way it is etc etc etc is lost over 10/20/50 years of driving. However, I do appreciate your support for the nastiness dished out to female drivers from time to time. The sooner we all recognise that our driving leaves much to be desired, the better. -

Had a guy with a white van knock on my door last week saying my gutters were FULL and really, really needed cleaning out, just ?25, they would cause damage if they weren't cleaned out, just 25 quid, and if only I took up his offer it would only be ?25... Still continued when I said that I had had the roof and gutters fixed a couple of weeks before... How he can see how full my gutters were without going up there is beyond me. He must be a very clever man. Or a scam. So maybe he was checking out all the gutters on Piermont Road...?

When I lived in Lewisham in the late 70's there used to be a "Pooper Scooter" doing the rounds. Does anyone remember them? The driver had a large suction tube and took up the offending mess into a central tank on the scooter. I guess it only took one accident to show the council why it was such a bad idea...at least for the Pooper Scooter driver....

How does one get a stall on North Cross Road Market?

Because all the other produce..fresh fish, cheese, fruit and veg, hand made icecream, good meat, flowers and plants, bread, homemade cakes, etc is all represented either in NXRoad or a few yards away on Lordship Lane. We also have stalls that sell antiques, retro furniture, retro clothes, fresh popcorn, hand made pottery, children's clothes, a bookstall, amazing rugs,as well as the fantastic shops that line NXR. Plus, its open ALL DAY not for 4 hours. And it's a local road, not a massive carpark and, as Jeremy says.."We already have lots of other places to eat locally, I don't see the need for twenty food trucks to roll up every weekend". I can understand the frustration for some people of not being able to get a stall but don't understand your slagging off of not only the market but also the stallholders. Why not just shop at Brockwell Market? -
Just wanted to have a place to express my Grrrrr without someone telling me how it is from the other point of view.. SO... BIG THANKS to the selfish dog owner who thought it OK to leave a big steaming mess outside my house on Dunstans Rd today. Now that its dark and it can't be seen it has been moved to the inside of my house....just let me know and I will be happy to spoil your supper, too. And if you want it back you will need to scrape it off the path, the hallway carpets and son's shoes...
