    Afternoon Tea

Being a savoury rather than sweet person, I don't really do Afternoon Tea, but when in Brighton recently (a restaurant on the the seafront) I saw a group with tea and a huge selection of fancy cakes on a multi tiered tray (it looked very well presented and quite nice (even though I never eat cakes)). I guess that's what afternoon tea is ?
  2. Theresa May has been quoted using the term "Economic War" but you do feel that Putin won't be too worried. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/russian-vladimir-putin-theresa-may-economic-war-sanctions-salisbury-nerve-agent-a8254626.html
  3. So Rex Tillerson says he supports Theresa May against the Russians. Trump fires Rex Tillerson but nobody knows if this was before his Russian comments (on Friday) or after. Under Secretary Steve Goldstein says Tillerson was first made aware of his firing by Trumps tweet on Tuesday. Trump fires Steve Goldstein. You could see a web of complications ... or maybe calling your boss a moron isn't a good idea (especially if it's "you're fired" Trump) :) http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/steve-goldstein-fired-trump-rex-tillerson-us-state-department-white-house-a8254151.html

I did see recently see that 25 to 54 year olds swing to Labour 50% to 28% (Survation) - that's just huge for the majority of the working/mortgage paying population group. Labour's stance is still pro Brexit but is also Pro Customs Union now (and I reckon it would become pro single market). Some of the current polling breakdowns for brexit here and it's still split down the middle https://www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-interactive/2018/jan/26/guardian-icm-brexit-poll-full-results

To me the EU is not the establishment and the likes of Guy Verhofstadt are more of rebels singeing Theresa Mays leopard skin print shoes.

  10. I got my parking ticket at Sainsbury's DKH rescinded as I moaned that I was actually shopping and queuing at the till and having a coffee (in Sainsbury's Starbucks) and in that case I'm a valid customer who happens to shop slowly (I had my ?120 receipt too). They've let me off as a gesture of goodwill :) The interesting thing is I've been told if I'm going to do that again tell the customer services people and they'll extend my stay (for 30 mins or whatever). Anyone who wants to say two and a half hours is too long to shop can but maybe useful for someone

Police have to take things seriously .. it's the nature of their job as even the unlikely happens sometimes. But I'd say in the large majority of cases there's a simple explanation - it doesn't mean it's never happened though.

Why don't they just use something like a database. Mind you as a boy scout I did a lot of this in the games we used to play. Here's some more road ones anyway http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26745534
  13. Peckham Rye turnstiles were open this morning (not sure why)

The top level (Nine Elms etc.) maybe Brexit related as many buyers are rich and foreign - and as said that effects the overall % for Lambeth, Southwark etc.

Owning 30% of my home I really wish I'd brought more in 2009 when it was 15% down.
  16. It's rebounded on Blake Morgan - who seem to have south wales origins it seems :( Although there seems to be some signs of compromise https://www.londonnewsonline.co.uk/dulwich-hamlet-landlords-backtrack-on-seizing-name-of-club-move/ Edit: thinking again is this compromise - or what Meadow wanted originally and have tried to make seem like a compromise position through recent actions.
  17. I tap for everything these days - it's scary how much time in the pub shows up on my bank statements :) There is no minimum spend that I've noticed - just a maximum one of ?30
  18. I went to the Streatham Rovers twitter page to ask them why they were so mean about sharing The Greyhound LOL :)

Anyway nobodies quoted Luxembourg's PM (Bettel) yet and it's so good. "They were in with a load of opt-outs, Now they're out and want a load of opt-ins"

It's incredibly difficult to riot if you have something to lose (like a job). The way the 2011 riots were treated couldn't have been more serious. 2 years for more or less stealing a bottle of water. I remember being on the street and seeing a group of lads taking beer from Tesco's grabbing some and dumping the rest - just me picking one up from the floor for a drink would have meant a long prison sentence (and all the pubs had shut).

Or just more belligerant > propoganda... I see no leavers around - maybe they really are older and not interested in that sort of thing, maybe there's other reasons - but I take any riot threats with a huge pinch of salt. On the Remainer side The SODEM people have been loitering outside Westminster for months now (the guys with the EU flags and hats - they're harmless but really loud), Westminster staff actually directed Guy Verhofstadt to a back entrance to avoid them (as he's their hero) when he left parliament this week but they called him over anyway. https://sodemaction.co.uk/

The Impact document is public now and as Faisal Islam comments "In one of the final pages showing how there is no Brexit dividend (essentially the fiscal impact of non-tariff barriers alone outweighs the savings on EU budget payments)" "And for those that believe the numbers; that the UK Government is actively pursuing a policy outcome with this range of calculated impacts, is a first in history." https://news.sky.com/story/easy-to-see-why-government-wanted-to-keep-brexit-analysis-secret-11281647
