  1. I get the overground to Whitechapel and then walk - its less than a 10 minute walk
  2. If I see joyrides anywhere I'll get some and post them to you. Or the Phenergan is definitely worth a go - Morrisons still have some, I was in there earlier - you take a spoonful a night before the journey and a spoonful in the morning. Has always worked my daughters.
  3. The factory which makes them apparently burnt down so they went out of production for ages. I couldn't get any anywhere for months. Then went into boots in paddington station last week and they had a shelf full of joyrides. So I'm hoping its means they're back in production. Both my kids are travel sick so the thought of running out was really stressing me. We like Traveleeze best but they don't seem to be back in production. GP prescribed phenergan for us - you can buy it over the counter in the morrisons pharmacy - I got some earlier in the week.
  4. I did a course at Southwark Adult Learning centre which was very good
  5. We were 7th on the list for our first choice and got in two weeks after term started
  6. Hello My eldest daughter is now in year 3 but when we applied for a reception place she didn,t get offered any of the schools on our list. Its an awful feeling and I completely empathise with you all. She was 7th on the waiting list for our first choice and got offered a place there 2 weeks after term started so just wanted to show that its not all a lost cause and that there is a lot of movement.
  7. 2 weeks between my two daughters catching it
  8. Went to the equestrian yesterday, train to London bridge, across to platform 1 and onto a virtually empty train to Greenwich. Took less than half an hour.
  9. Yes, micro scooters will send you out a new one if you ring them
  10. Similar happened about 4 months ago at a lewisham school... Again a year 6 pupil, on her way home.
  11. My daughter is at a Lewisham school and there is a BIKE IT scheme which all years of the school get to do. Its done on a termly basis and takes place during one of their weekly PE lessons. This is a link to Bike It http://www.sustrans.org.uk/what-we-do/bike-it/bike-it-and-my-child
  12. 100m and you didn't get a place??? That's scary.
  13. Hello My daughter goes to the Nunhead Beavers. She was allowed to start at 5 and three quarters but couldn't be invested until she'd turned 6.
  14. I don't think scooters are allowed.
  15. travel sickness started for both my daughters just before they turned 1. They suffer very very badly but we have it under control using Joyrides for my eldest (these have worked since she turned 3) and a prescription of Phenergan from my GP for my youngest. She was first prescribed this just before she turned 2 as you can't give over the counter medicine until they are 3. We have tried just joyrides for her but she has still been sick, whereas the phenergan seems to (touch wood) work every time. Before the medicine they could be sick before we'd even reached the Old Kent Road!! Luckily we only use a car occassionally when going away for holidays or weekends, the rest of the time we try to use the train as they're both fine on trains. I found it very stressful for a long time.
  16. Hello I've been induced twice: First baby: had been having irregular contractions for a few days and then my waters broke on my due date. There was meconium in the water so I then had to go straight on a monitor. Contractions weren't strong enough or regular enough so i was put on the drip. I was very strongly advised to have an epidural as they said the contractions were likely to become very very strong and fast in a short space of time. Had the epidural but did not have it topped up so by the time i needed to push i had some feeling back. Couldn't quite get her out without the ventouse as she had become distressed and her heart rate kept dropping so it became a bit of a "get her out in tehe next two minutes or it will end up being a section" situation, but it was all fine. Second baby: one week overdue when waters broke. Again there was meconium. ANd again I had really useless contractions!! They tried the pessary thing but it didn't do anything. I actually got the train home for a few hours and came back later at that point! Then went onto the drip, again with an epidural, and had a really really lovely birth. I was absolutely determined that i was going to push this baby out without the episiotomy and ventouse, and i did. It was very relaxed and calm and i actually really enjoyed it and felt bloody proud of myself! Good luck x
  17. My two daughters both started being hideously sick in the car from the age of 12 months. With our eldest we just had to cope with it by always having a bowl ready and clean clothes etc as it could happen after just 10 minutes in the car. When she turned 3 we could start giving her joyrides and she hasn,t been sick since. Just as we thought we'd cracked it and could travel in peace our youngest started throwing up every time we got in the car!! In desperation I went to the doctor just before she turned 2 and he prescribed phenergan, which fingers crossed seems to work. She has been sick once in 2 years but was feeling peaky that day anyway. Still always on high alert and always carry a sick bowl so still never relax on journeys! Have tried the youngest with just a joyride (three year olds can have half a t tablet) but she still felt ill, whereas the phenergan seems to make her feel completely fine. You give a spoonful the night before the journey and another spoonful in the morning,
  18. I was told BRAT - bananas, rice, apples, toast Although when my 2 year old was I hospital on a drip they told me to give her whatever she asked for, and to give drinks I would never normally give like ribena to boost her blood sugar levels
  19. Oh I see!! That does make sense then! Had no idea DVI was only for 3 years
  20. I have two daughters, one in year two and one in nursery. There are a lot of siblings of my eldest daughter's classmates in reception and nursery. Not sure where the idea that most elder children will have left school before their sibling starts come from. Bulge classes must make a difference but at our school at least there have never been more than about 25 siblings in an intake of 60. Will see how the bulge class of last year effects this years stats.
  21. I would think that these days it's virtually impossible to get into a school which is one mile away if it is operating a standard admissions criteria. I would think it would be a waste of a choice to be honest. The Southwark website will give you a list of last years distances.
  22. Yes. I live in southwark and my daughter goes to a lewisham school. You have to apply via southwark.
  23. Why has this been moved?? Where is the "official" boundary between roads we can talk about on this forum and roads we can't??
