  1. I would think that these days it's virtually impossible to get into a school which is one mile away if it is operating a standard admissions criteria. I would think it would be a waste of a choice to be honest. The Southwark website will give you a list of last years distances.
  2. Yes. I live in southwark and my daughter goes to a lewisham school. You have to apply via southwark.
  3. Why has this been moved?? Where is the "official" boundary between roads we can talk about on this forum and roads we can't??
  4. Hello, Just wondered if anyone knows if the shops and banks on Rye Lane are open again now? Have a lot of errands to run but don't want to drag my 2 children out if nothing is actually open down there! Thanks
  5. Hello Last year my 2 year old ended up in A&E on a drip after throwing up and being feverish and completely out of sorts for 3 days. Was eventually diagnosed as a urine infection. Did your doctor do a urine sample? When she was in hospital the doctors told me to try to stick to bland food but if there was something she particularly asked for to give it. They also recommended sugary squash to drink to try to get a bit of energy back into her. A week is a long time to be throwing up. When did you see your GP? I would be inclined to go back for a second opinion if he doesn't seem to be getting better. Really hope he's better soon. Its awful when they're ill.
  6. I go to Paddington once a week and find the journey pretty quick and easy. There are two options - train to London Bridge, then Jubilee to Baker Street, across platform to Bakerloo. Then just one escalator up to the station. Or train to Victoria and on to Circle Line - there are no steps at Paddington, but there are a few to go down at Victoria. People are always very quick to offer to help me with the buggy though. Journey takes about 45 minutes usually.
  7. Hello Dagi I live in Nunhead and my daughter goes to Edmund Waller - but we didn't get a place initially and we were 7th on the waiting list. We eventually got a place 2 weeks after term started. Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk a bit more about our experience.
  8. At my daughter's school the teachers decide if they want to be known by their first name or by Mr/Miss/Mrs. I would much prefer them to be Miss X and Mr Y but most teachers there seem to like to be called by their first name only.
  9. 4th is in with a shot. We started off as 7th on our first choice waiting list and the school told me that if you're in the top 5 you stand a very good chance of getting a place. We slowly crawled our way up and got a place! I know it seems hopeless now but there is a lot of movement between now and September. Fingers crossed for you.
  10. Hello She started at a different school. It was our original 3rd choice which we got offered about a month after the offers were first made. Whereabouts are you on waiting lists for the schools you like?
  11. 2 years ago I wasn't offered any places either but I did end up with a place at my first choice school two weeks into term. I think every parent who has recently applied for a school place can and will be totally empathising with you and I'm sure many people do consider themselves lucky that they live near enough the school they like to get a place.
  12. The van is back now and will be there right through the summer. The cafe at the top of the hill is good too. The staff are annoyed about the buggy rules too apparently - they say that Lewisham Council have set the rules and they have to follow them. On nice days everyone just seems to leave their buggies along the railings and only bother to put them in the shed if its raining.
  13. Thanks Fuschia (sorry meant to say thanks this morning but somehow never got round to it!!)
  14. Hello Haven't been to Peckham Rye Park for a while and I'm wondering if the adventure playground is open every day now? Thanks very much.
  15. Hi Chantelle Hope you don't mind me asking but did Lewisham tell you the furthest distance and how many siblings got a place for each school? My daughter goes to a Lewisham school but we only got in on the waiting list as we're right on the limits of catchment. I have to apply for my youngest next year and I'm panicking she won't get in even on a sibling place as there was a bulge class last year and nearly everyone in my daughter's class seems to have younger brothers and sisters!! If Lewisham are giving out that info I might give them a ring and see if we would have got in this year!!
  16. cff9 When we applied for primary 2 years ago the information we were given was that if we turned down an offer of a school then Southwark were not actually then obliged to help us find somewhere else. We were strongly advised to accept the offer of the school (which was not one of our 4 choices) and then put ourselves on the waiting list for all our other choices. We did get our first choice eventually - two weeks after term started.
  17. smb12 Do you know where you are on the waiting list? If you only missed out by 3m you must be at the top and there is a very good chance of getting a place
  18. This was me 2 years ago, and like Mrs Lotte we were offered John Donne!! Got a place at our second choice a few months later, and then a place at our first choice 2 weeks after term started. Just wanted to reassure people that there is a lot of movement on waiting lists so don't give up hope on your first choice! We were originally 7th on our waiting list and managed to get there in the end.
  19. I have a 2.7 age gap between my two. The eldest walked or scooted everywhere once I had the new baby in the pram. I did put a buggy board on my pram which came in very handy and she used that until she was about 3.5.
  20. I've always found that people are very quick to offer to help you up the stairs at Denmark Hill if that's the only reason you don't want to take the train.
  21. We had our daughters 3rd birthday party in the function room at The Nun's Head at the weekend. Was really good. Loads of room, some massive beanbags on the floor which they all loved jumping on and some of the parents were able to slope off for a sunday lunch downstairs!!
