  1. Kim from VIllage Blinds took mine away and cleaned them. Some sort of big bath for them as I recall. I was having other things done so not sure how much just cleaning was, think VIllage BLinds advertise locally if there is no web site.
  2. NORAD tracks Santa. Total genuius especially for those older ones who are maybe a bit sceptical. Real US Army people, satellite photos. Makes my Christmas Eve.
  3. Can I ask the experts here - when travelling from FH or PR on Overground and changing at Canada Water for the tube, should I be touching in and out on the pink 'interchange' machine to get the cheapest deal? Some people do some don't - I usually do but am not sure if I need to or not. Thanks
  4. Which one? Peckham Park one is next to the cafe, near the car park in the middle section, on the path from Barry Road. Crystal Palace is on Crystal Palace Park Road, about half way down on the right - next to the car park.
  5. Not for me. Hate lush and body shop due to too much fragrance. See Stenders is mainly a franchise thing- I don't know too much about how that works but think it would take a lot of effort to break a new skin care franchise into the uk. We have tesco,m and s and boots doing high performance skin care at very low cost ( boots serum vs the mega brands performs very well, for example), plus the Clarins Clinique etc for those with more cash/less cynicism! Add in the ethical buyers and the people like me looking for high spf sun protection, which stenders seems not to have, and i am not sure who will buy it. But the photos on website are nice- bikes and flowers etc.
  6. No trains Lb to cx for 2 years is a big concern. Don't think the Ell will help with that at all.
  7. I think it is one if those that if you have them you will know and be able to fill in appropriately.wanting to go to school with your friends is not exceptional social need. Possibly being cared for by a relative who lives near the school due to a family member's illness, while still residing somewhere else could be. Wanting to go to school near a station as that suits a parent's commute would not be. Requiring wheelchair access would be.
  8. we live very close, and will be neighbours if you move in! No noise issues for us. The vans referred to above I think mainly park on Pellat Road rather than Crystal Palace.
  9. I find that once I take my decorations down and bring the pumpkin in, no one knocks. My children don't knock on doors that do not have a pumpkin or decorations up. Simple rules, no problem. And rhey are always accompanied.
  10. We have varnished floorboards but also a turtle mat runner that is genius and can go in the washing machine. It takes the strain before the nice cream carpets and tiles get filthy. I got mine from LAkeland but they sell direct. Not the most stylish but totally does the job with wet bikes/boots/ bags. I think they do more interesting colour schemes but mine is intended not to be noticed. Except when it comes out of they machine and i think how great it is.
  11. Spot on Sillywoman. Your own street and neighbours every time.
  12. Children from Heber Primary in Year 6 recently completed such a course. Quite likely that it was them on Whateley Road. Not all schools have dropped it.
  13. Lizzy recently did my daughter's party and produced beautiful face painting, much better standard than I have ever seen before locally. She was great with the gaggle of small girls, they were all delighted. not linked or mares etc, just a very satisfied customer.
  14. I spent a good two or three years attacking bits of glitter and specks of dust due to paranoia about nits. I laughed and laughed when the infestation finally came. No louse poos or eggs for us, bloody great creepy crawlies marching about. With multiple legs. Sooooo not like glitter (maybe if you catch them super super early?)Full marks, nitty gritty comb (that's the brand name- not all nit combs are equal) then meticulous combing with any old conditioner. My son with shirt hsir gets it eorse than dsughter with long. Think us to do with thickness if hair not just length. Agree is bizarrely satisfying. A rite of passage in parenting.
  15. Please PM if it belongs to you, with description of the watch. Lots of people enjoying the sunshine there today.
  16. Blubbing. Probably with the emotion of seeing what mothering actually involves, which is never really explained. Carrying all that around in our heads, quite possibly doing a paid job too, running a house. No wonder we are often tired. But this should not be a whine, should be wake up call to enjoy snd stop worrying. Thanks for posting.
  17. Roller disco in vauxhall? Don't know the details but have heard it is good.
  18. Has been variations in this locally at different events. Seven or so years ago I used to go to a free session at PEckham soft play. You were required to state your postcode. I as an SE22 resident was allowed in but on understanding that if some Se15 people turned up and the limit to the session was reached I would have to leave as SE15 was the priority target for that subsidised session. And LEapers, a highly successful and informative playgroup was closed to the general public and you had to be referred by social services. Understandable with cuts but not an aid to social integration.
  19. Bear in mind taht an awful lot of cleaners on this Forum are charging ?10 an hour. Not all possibly but it does seem to me that ?10 an hour is becoming the going rate for cleaners. Of course they are not an employee in the same way, But I think it would be weird to pay my cleaner more than my nanny.
  20. One reason may well be logos and designer clothes. Some children will come to school in a Ralph Lauren polo shirt or the latest Nike trainers. Other children want that too, it becomes about being cool. School uniform produces an even playing field where everyone is equally dressed, and differences in income/social group/fashion sense are much less distinct. I am very happy to have a stricly enforced uniform. Far less fuss in the morning, and I believe over time far less money spent on clothes for my children. Most of the most successful schools I know have a uniform. It should encourage a sense of pride and togetherness. As for the timing, I have yet to read the letter but I understood that there was a transitional period and nothing will be done til after Christmas. I think that is fair. The uniform has so far as I am aware always been on the website and was included in the Reception starters pack. In any event this whole thing is in my opinion aimed at the very small minority who wear clothing that is not close to uniform in colour or style rather than the majority of children who might have a sweatshirt with no logo.
  21. my eldest sayed at private nursery til he started Reception class, middle one went to school nursery then into Reception. Has made zero difference in terms of making ftiends and 'fitting in' if that is what you are concerned about.
  22. I understood it to be more of an amnesty- no trainers, proper school shoes only but you have til January to comply, which gives time to get it sorted. I think that is fair enough. The uniform has always been there and the vast majority comply. There are a few who don't and they are being given time to comply. It has always been the case that logo sweatshirts were required. It is hardly expensive blazers and multiple sports kits. Pretty much all schools have logo sweatshirts and I fully support getting those who don't comply to do so.
  23. There is another thread on this on here already. Euro camp key camp canvas all offer similar type holidays. Often on campsites owned by Yello or SIblu, so worth looking up the campsite itself to see what is said about that and then seeing what the different companies offer. THompson al fresco is another one. Cheaper to book direct with the campsite, but the accommodation may not then have the extras you get in a British orientated company like a kettle. WE like it, solves the separate room issue for us, there are such variations in campsites and facilities so usually something to suit everyone. We don't use kids clubs as ours very happy scootering or now older cycling round the campsite and playing in pool. But the big companies offer that if you want it. It is basically a caravan holiday, but somehow being abroad with lots of GErman and Dutch people and the availability of wine transforms it into a very different atmosphere Ps re other thread did not mean to be rude, just highlighting that there is useful info n the other thread, currently on page 2 of family room
  24. Just to say that following a failed trip to JOhn LEwis, who were unable to provide a pair of school shoes to fit my son, we had an entirely stress free visit to this shop in the Ed WArehouse on ZEnoria STreet (near JoJo Mamanbebe) and found school shoes he likes that fit. Well worth a visit.
  25. Gusseted freezer bag is exactly the sort of wise counsel I was looking for. Genius. Thanks everyone. Usually comes to nothing but best to be prepared.
