  1. For people with histories of problems they do take a cautious appraoch. Having been in the fortunate position of 2 succesful issue free preganacies and labours, one at 39+5, one at 40+5 they were super relaxed about me going over and it was me insisting on being induced bang on 42 weeks. was not prepared to go a day over. midwife supported that decision but would have been happy to let me go longer. I had a colleague with a horror story worse that EDMummy sadly, and was no way I was exposing me or my baby to that. I really don't think Kings or anywhere else are out to bully any one or deliberetaley make people unhappy. They are risk assessing you and it is not one size fits all, in my experience.
  2. Keeping it in the family perhaps leads to better quality? Client name and architect name are the same...Coud be coincidence....
  3. Most unlikely an au pair would be OFSTED registered and hence illegible for voucher payment. You could try to go through the OFSTED registration process - insurance, first aid etc, but I doubt that someone OFSTED registered would be willing to work for au pair rates.
  4. Owners selling up- ?50k for the lease apparently. No further details. Who will take it over? Discuss....
  5. I have fine nursery childminder and nanny. Horses for courses , every family different, and family's needs change over time. Do not think you need to panic as places do come up. Our first choice nursery had us on waiting list for a year and still did not have a place when I needed to go back, but I got a place elsewhere at short notice that we were happy with. Baby 2 did a mixture of nursery and childminder, then the nursery closed and we got a nanny. Baby 3 has only ever had a nanny. Socially and developmentally you can't tell the difference, the ones who went to nursery are def not in any way inferior!!! Visit, visit again, consider journey times, flexibility, how flexible your employer is, look at logistics again and then apply for flexible working so you can have even half a day at home.
  6. Struggling withthis so resurrecting the thread. Need a course taht is 2 mornings per week ideally. Or an evening course. Did ty I love languages but no reply. Au pair seems set on central London, although I am trying to get her to go with ELT. Any other suggestions?
  7. Yes was fun today. Can't do 21st but you won't be able to suit everyone so do go ahead. Sam, I gave you a wrong number as no record of your call on my phone, please pm me I stead, sorry and hope T is feeling better soon.
  8. yep def depends on whether your child is already at nursery or not. Mine was, so I reduced his hours, and then after the initial 3 month fog lifted took him out of that nursery altogther and enrolled him in a mornings only type nursery. He would have gone stir crazy at home with me all the time as he was used to nursery. doing 3 mornings suited him and me fine. he was a bit older though. No point putting a child who is not used to nursery into one just because there is a new baby.
  9. No experience with twins but I had a normal bag with lots of pockets for child one and was wildly jealous of people with a 'proper' changing bag, so spent the vouchers my colleagues got me for baby 2 on a whizzy expensive changing bag that lasted 3 months was ripped, too small and an utter waste of money. For baby 3 I bought a nice change mat from Jojo, used the insulated bottle thing from the posh bag ( the only bit that survived) and a little portable pack for wipes etc as described further up. A large rucksack or decent sized tote/shopper will do the job. Def think specific changing bags are an unnecessary item.
  10. Wedo 'that've sky, but I have seen that there is a stage show version over the summer. It sounds like the sort of thing my 9 year old would like but as we have never seen it I would value some views on whether it is silly science or just silly, and whether appropriate for a 9 year old. Thanks
  11. I get a lot more cuddles and conversation from my son than either of my daughters.
  12. If you can get to Fenchurch Street (number 40 bus) you can get a train to Leigh on Sea, Chalkwell, westcliff or THorpe Bay - basically all beaches in suburbs of Southend. Southend Central is on the High Street (M& S, Debenhams etc) and the best staion for the pier, arcades, Adventure Island (mini theme park type place with roller coaster etc) chip shops etc. The other places mentioned are less busy beaches but all the staions are pretty close to the sea front, esp Chalkwell. the train line follows the coast. Or could go East London Line then Jubillee and get on the c2c line at West Ham. Or Train to Croydon where there is step free access to the platform that the Eastbourne trains go from. Or to Waterloo for Portsmouth and Gun Wharf (good shopping) and Mary Rose etc. In fact Waterloo for pretty much everywhere on south coast!
  13. Teddy safely returned. Grandma realised on way home and retraced her steps. Happy ending for teddy.
  14. Well loved. Is looking like going to rain again so will take him home but do pm if he is yours.
  15. Potette is the business. Highly recommend. Do not understand knickers/ shorts thing. When potty training they wear knickers. We needed about 15 pairs. You take spares everywhere. Before they are potty training they wear nappies. I hope this is not some coy/ sexualisation if small children thing where showing your knickers when you are 2 or 3 is bad? Is it not hot and sweaty to wear an extra layer in the summer?
  16. Change church? Traditionally it was done v early, and as dutiful first time mother my son was 'done' at 3 months old. Daughter was about 8 months. Third child was turned 2. Either they want your child baptised and a member of the church or they don't. And either you accept being made to feel bad as part of the process or you find somewhere else that is happy to support you and your family. There are other Catholic Churches, and there are other branches of Christianity too. Good luck
  17. 34th Camberwell Cubs are having a table top sale tomorrow 22 June 10-1, at Rye Hill Tenants Association Hall, 191 Peckham Rye (the Nunhead side, by the big block of flats, close to Strakers Road and the park cafe). This cub pack takes boys and girls from East Dulwich and Nunhead, is run by volunteers and needs funds urgently. Please support by coming to browse and buy or by renting a table to sell your old stuff. ?5 to rent a table. PM to book. Thanks
  18. The point us that there has been this flexibility and it is being removed. Until this September it was allowed. I would be happy for the flexibility to be reduced to 5 days as in the article above. There has not been chaos, or educational failure as a result of this up to now. If you haven't used it fair enough. My son after 5 years in school has had this flex applied for a grand total of 2 days. So I am not merrily taking him out of school for a fortnight each year. But it is his granddad's 70th coming up and we are planning a long weekend to celebrate. I do not think that should count as truanting. Hopefully none if you ever have a family event that might require a day or 2 off school.
  19. Ours was fine, we had a baby at the time. On one day the builder said it would be really helpful if you went out all day today- we did, that was the day they knocked through and it was chaotic but then it calmed down again.
  20. It needs a razor knife to scrape the rest off. I lost the will and have left it smeary. E cloth, credit card as a scraper and spray window cleaner liquid have failed so far. All with a lot of elbow grease. Lesson learnt.
  21. Do not let these annoying window decorations melt. Nightmare to get the melted goo off. Just sharing this wisdom from the "things I wish I had known" section of parenthood. Sigh.
  22. If you are just a bit spotty and it is not acne then a lot of this sounds very harsh and heavy duty. When you say scrub, do you mean a thorough wash or a cream with bits in that exfoliates? Generally those with bits in are abrasive and can irritate the skin more. I'd suggest a general purpose facial, and tell the person when you book that you have congested skin and may need extraction. The therapist will be able to advise on your skin type, and in many places will give you samples of products to try at home. Often the years go by and you are still using the same products that suited when much younger. Trying different things that suit you now can be a revalation. Of course the staff want you to buy the full sizes, but you may as well get their expertise and advice and a trial size!! I have had good facials at Lesley leale green (think that is name) in Dulwich village, also therapy on Melbourne grove and neroli in honor oak.
  23. You are too early. Beavers (boys and girls) is from 6. Rainbows is only for girls and is similar I think.
  24. Think there's a misunderstanding above between daily and weekly rates. Think for au pair we are looking at between ?65 and ?100 per week? Not per day. And can anyone explain the phone thing? Do I need to get a phone for her or just give extra cash or buy a top up voucher? Not very technical so will need the phone thing explained in simple steps please!
