  1. around 7.30pm. Phone grabbed out of hand while walking. Description not really good enough to be of any use.
  2. Been nosing about on the Department of Education and other Government websites. As my children are happy and performing well I have never really looked at these CVA scores before. What is not being noted is that the CVA needs to be looked at alongside 'confidence indicators' which tell how true the results are. Paraphrasing the reports I have read, each school gets a CVA score plus a higher and a lower level confidence indicator. Heber's upper and lower confidence indicators straddle the 100 line, which means that you can't say whether it is above or below the average. Of course it could be better but it is not quite so doom and gloom, nor as clear cut, as some may suggest. http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/primary_12/KS1-2_Value_Added_Guide_2012.pdf
  3. Improved a lot in the years my children have been there. Agree report is contradictory. Glad the governers are appealing it. Such a shame for the teachers who have been making positive changes. Don't really recognise what OFSTeD say.
  4. Thanks to those who helped the victim of a mugging this evening near The Actress. We have contacted the police.
  5. you apply for a place via a form that Soputhwark provide or online. If your child is in a nursery they should have copies or you can get it from Southwark direct. the deadline is usually the January before your child is due to start. so, if you child was born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 the form needs to be submitted approximately before January 2014 NB you need to check the date, I don't know exactly when it is but know that my daughter's form needs to be filled in now and submitted around Christmas time. They won't accept forms earlier than the fixed period, ther are no waiting lists etc for state schools. Children start Reception class in the September before they turn 5. So my child born April 2010 will start school in September 2014, as will all other children born between 1/9/2009 and 31/8/2010. hope that helps
  6. Walk up marylebone high street, lovely shops, GInger PIg butchers, GIraffe restaurant, pret and all usual sandwich places, PAtisserie VAlerie and then on the left is Moxon STreet ( where ginger pig is) and there are gardens there with swings, benches, climbing frames etc lovely spot for lunch with a nice international mix of mums and carers and toddlers. Also boots andcwaitrose to satisfy shopping urges.
  7. Holiday Drop Off? search on here or i think he website is holiday dropoff.co.uk - is good fun. Play date swap with friends? This is why I am not convinced that school based childcare as announced at the Labour conference is such a good idea, as it still leaves 13 weeks of childcare to cover.
  8. Washer drier was good but for reasons set out above ( load capacity mainly) not as good as tumble drier. Have a condenser one, is good. But am going to get the Lakeland heated thingy too. Please be careful with tumble driers though, especially beko ones. My brother's one burst into flames. They've subsequently found there are known issues with certain beko models. I don't leave my ( non beko) one on when I am out anymore as a bit paranoid now. Maybe not leaving it on when out is normal for other people but I often used to do it.
  9. For people with histories of problems they do take a cautious appraoch. Having been in the fortunate position of 2 succesful issue free preganacies and labours, one at 39+5, one at 40+5 they were super relaxed about me going over and it was me insisting on being induced bang on 42 weeks. was not prepared to go a day over. midwife supported that decision but would have been happy to let me go longer. I had a colleague with a horror story worse that EDMummy sadly, and was no way I was exposing me or my baby to that. I really don't think Kings or anywhere else are out to bully any one or deliberetaley make people unhappy. They are risk assessing you and it is not one size fits all, in my experience.
  10. Keeping it in the family perhaps leads to better quality? Client name and architect name are the same...Coud be coincidence....
  11. Most unlikely an au pair would be OFSTED registered and hence illegible for voucher payment. You could try to go through the OFSTED registration process - insurance, first aid etc, but I doubt that someone OFSTED registered would be willing to work for au pair rates.
  12. Owners selling up- ?50k for the lease apparently. No further details. Who will take it over? Discuss....
  13. I have fine nursery childminder and nanny. Horses for courses , every family different, and family's needs change over time. Do not think you need to panic as places do come up. Our first choice nursery had us on waiting list for a year and still did not have a place when I needed to go back, but I got a place elsewhere at short notice that we were happy with. Baby 2 did a mixture of nursery and childminder, then the nursery closed and we got a nanny. Baby 3 has only ever had a nanny. Socially and developmentally you can't tell the difference, the ones who went to nursery are def not in any way inferior!!! Visit, visit again, consider journey times, flexibility, how flexible your employer is, look at logistics again and then apply for flexible working so you can have even half a day at home.
  14. Is there not a contact number on the board outside or just inside? I know there is a committee. It's quite spacious with a kitchen and lots of tables and chairs. Don't have the details myself but children go to cubs there so have been in - capacity 75-100 I would say.
  15. we used Dave Franklin, company is called Berdec, search on here and his details will come up. Did teh front so well I got him to do some inside stuff too.
  16. Struggling withthis so resurrecting the thread. Need a course taht is 2 mornings per week ideally. Or an evening course. Did ty I love languages but no reply. Au pair seems set on central London, although I am trying to get her to go with ELT. Any other suggestions?
  17. Yes was fun today. Can't do 21st but you won't be able to suit everyone so do go ahead. Sam, I gave you a wrong number as no record of your call on my phone, please pm me I stead, sorry and hope T is feeling better soon.
  18. Dave's team has done the outside of my house and painted two bedrooms. All very neat and tidy and friendly, quote v similar to another one (so seems competitive) done promptly, would recommend.
  19. yep def depends on whether your child is already at nursery or not. Mine was, so I reduced his hours, and then after the initial 3 month fog lifted took him out of that nursery altogther and enrolled him in a mornings only type nursery. He would have gone stir crazy at home with me all the time as he was used to nursery. doing 3 mornings suited him and me fine. he was a bit older though. No point putting a child who is not used to nursery into one just because there is a new baby.
  20. No experience with twins but I had a normal bag with lots of pockets for child one and was wildly jealous of people with a 'proper' changing bag, so spent the vouchers my colleagues got me for baby 2 on a whizzy expensive changing bag that lasted 3 months was ripped, too small and an utter waste of money. For baby 3 I bought a nice change mat from Jojo, used the insulated bottle thing from the posh bag ( the only bit that survived) and a little portable pack for wipes etc as described further up. A large rucksack or decent sized tote/shopper will do the job. Def think specific changing bags are an unnecessary item.
  21. Wedo 'that've sky, but I have seen that there is a stage show version over the summer. It sounds like the sort of thing my 9 year old would like but as we have never seen it I would value some views on whether it is silly science or just silly, and whether appropriate for a 9 year old. Thanks
  22. I get a lot more cuddles and conversation from my son than either of my daughters.
  23. If you can get to Fenchurch Street (number 40 bus) you can get a train to Leigh on Sea, Chalkwell, westcliff or THorpe Bay - basically all beaches in suburbs of Southend. Southend Central is on the High Street (M& S, Debenhams etc) and the best staion for the pier, arcades, Adventure Island (mini theme park type place with roller coaster etc) chip shops etc. The other places mentioned are less busy beaches but all the staions are pretty close to the sea front, esp Chalkwell. the train line follows the coast. Or could go East London Line then Jubillee and get on the c2c line at West Ham. Or Train to Croydon where there is step free access to the platform that the Eastbourne trains go from. Or to Waterloo for Portsmouth and Gun Wharf (good shopping) and Mary Rose etc. In fact Waterloo for pretty much everywhere on south coast!
  24. Teddy safely returned. Grandma realised on way home and retraced her steps. Happy ending for teddy.
