Where do you buy your clothes (for you, not kids)?
katgod replied to Pickle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
sE22mum you are v calm and good. If my husband told me I was dressing like a middle aged lady, then unless he was brad Pitt or George clooney I would be saying 'fine, hand over the cash and I will go and see Sally at Queen Bee'. Cheeky so and so! Sally is great. I don't think I know Unduscovered, but have used Sally and agree saved a load of mistake purchases. -
Refocusing career after maternity leave

I looked into this awhile back and it seemed from my research that prince 2 is relatively old now, but heavily used in the public sector. My private sector employer is all about 'lean six sigma' which is about changing processes. Not sure if there are externally run courses on it but lean and continuous improvement are the buzz words in my work world. -
You might also want to consider that St Clements has a lovely service with dressing up on Christmas Eve, which is not so rammed. St Clements is on Barry Road or Friern Road depending on which side you approach from.

Crawthew Road closing for 18 months
katgod replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As it is pretty bad on that corner already with the huge, unsightly portaloo block parked on the road making negotiating the corner dangerous and disrupting the residents I wonder if this might in fact be better/ safer? Southwark should look long and guard at the whole project and whether allowing a project with access via a narrow driveway was the right decision to begin with. It has been awful for the leople living there. -
Brazilian blow dry is brilliant, makes my hair look half way decent with minimal effort. Carly is great.

Good GP/Heath Visitor recommendation for young child?
katgod replied to carebear's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Think HVs based at Townley Road clinic and that it does not matter which GP you are with you access HV via there, and that GP (DMC) expects me to keep on top of which jabs when, but appmt availability etc for that is fine. Also if you say appmt needed is for a child they do usually try to accomodate. HV I have always found an irrelevance once initial weighing stage over, but that is just me. They are there at Townley Road if needed. -
I work 3 dats and find the holidays sad too, especially the long summer one. I think I would always opt for p/t as the juggling is too much for me.

Donations Urgently needed - Hostel at the top of Barry road
katgod replied to SebsC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Might be worth calling the 999 club in Deptford. They support vulnerable people of all ages but do have a nursery too. Some heart breaking stories about older children and their life experiences. The nursery tries to be a bit of order in chaotic lives. We collect (new, disposable) nappies at my work to donate their, so they must have some small babies there. -
quick question about adding a sibling to a nanny share
katgod replied to hellosailor's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We did a 4 child nanny share and it was fine. No doubt it depends on ages and behaviour of children. With toddlers it may be tricky but children of school age should be able to walk sensibly to school. Generally I have found they behave better for a nanny than a parent. We had 2 in reception, one in nursery mornings only and one in preschool elsewhere. So lots of pick ups and drop offs but a very easy time after school as they played with each other and did not need much input from nanny. I would expect to pay more because you get children need more from a nanny than older children. -
Nick T, were the police called? everything has to be reported. SNT - you sometimes read the EDF - what is the response to this??

The OFSTeD registration for many parents is more about the childcare vouchers (via employer that effectively are a tax break) and which can only be used for OFSTeD registered childcarers, rather than any indication of quality. The childcare voucher rules appear to have changed recently so you will need to check, but OFSTeD registration made my nanny cheaper rather than more expensive as I could pay a part of her salary before paying tax on my own salary. Simply childcare and Nanny PAYE are good sources of info re jobs and tax.

Morning rush hour from Denmark Hill to City
katgod replied to KVT's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It is hard when the train is so packed you can't get near the seats but I commuted through 2 pregnancies and did not need or expect a seat for the first 6 months and certainly had no badge, but found undoing my coat and standing at right angles to those seated ( ie so bump really very obvious) meant I was offered a seat every day, albeit commuting from Ed station not dkh. And when even walking to station became too much I took the bus from Lship lane to London bridge. -
Thank you - incident near Actress this evening

around 7.30pm. Phone grabbed out of hand while walking. Description not really good enough to be of any use. -
Been nosing about on the Department of Education and other Government websites. As my children are happy and performing well I have never really looked at these CVA scores before. What is not being noted is that the CVA needs to be looked at alongside 'confidence indicators' which tell how true the results are. Paraphrasing the reports I have read, each school gets a CVA score plus a higher and a lower level confidence indicator. Heber's upper and lower confidence indicators straddle the 100 line, which means that you can't say whether it is above or below the average. Of course it could be better but it is not quite so doom and gloom, nor as clear cut, as some may suggest. http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/primary_12/KS1-2_Value_Added_Guide_2012.pdf

Improved a lot in the years my children have been there. Agree report is contradictory. Glad the governers are appealing it. Such a shame for the teachers who have been making positive changes. Don't really recognise what OFSTeD say.

you apply for a place via a form that Soputhwark provide or online. If your child is in a nursery they should have copies or you can get it from Southwark direct. the deadline is usually the January before your child is due to start. so, if you child was born between 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 the form needs to be submitted approximately before January 2014 NB you need to check the date, I don't know exactly when it is but know that my daughter's form needs to be filled in now and submitted around Christmas time. They won't accept forms earlier than the fixed period, ther are no waiting lists etc for state schools. Children start Reception class in the September before they turn 5. So my child born April 2010 will start school in September 2014, as will all other children born between 1/9/2009 and 31/8/2010. hope that helps

Child friendly places near Wigmore Hall.
katgod replied to Bellenden Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Walk up marylebone high street, lovely shops, GInger PIg butchers, GIraffe restaurant, pret and all usual sandwich places, PAtisserie VAlerie and then on the left is Moxon STreet ( where ginger pig is) and there are gardens there with swings, benches, climbing frames etc lovely spot for lunch with a nice international mix of mums and carers and toddlers. Also boots andcwaitrose to satisfy shopping urges. -
half term - both parents working full time - what to do?
katgod replied to Mfichardt's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Holiday Drop Off? search on here or i think he website is holiday dropoff.co.uk - is good fun. Play date swap with friends? This is why I am not convinced that school based childcare as announced at the Labour conference is such a good idea, as it still leaves 13 weeks of childcare to cover. -
Washer dryers (sorry, boring thread)
katgod replied to Polly D's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Washer drier was good but for reasons set out above ( load capacity mainly) not as good as tumble drier. Have a condenser one, is good. But am going to get the Lakeland heated thingy too. Please be careful with tumble driers though, especially beko ones. My brother's one burst into flames. They've subsequently found there are known issues with certain beko models. I don't leave my ( non beko) one on when I am out anymore as a bit paranoid now. Maybe not leaving it on when out is normal for other people but I often used to do it.
