  1. Last time I was in there seeking a game, they had three different International fixtures on different tellies simultaneously, so the Castle is a decent suggestion.

  3. Call K&O. http://kandopestcontrol.co.uk - they advertise on the forum and you'll find an abundance of recommendations on here, not least from us (and it was rats in that case too, a year ago). Not had one since. Very reasonably priced, and committed to getting the job done for you.
  4. Would definitely recommend heading along to one of the local ParkRun events, each Saturday morning. There's one each in Peckham Rye Park, Dulwich Park and Brockwell Park, each at 9am on Saturday. 5km course each time, but there are a range of abilities with finishers taking between 20-35 minutes. There's no standard, it's free, organised and sociable. 6. Would echo previous comments - moved to ED without a car and never saw the need to buy one. Even if we abused it we'd not come close to the cost of owning and running our own car. I actually find the availablity at short notice to be pretty good - i can usually get a car for an evening with only a few hours notice and one for a full day at the weekend with a week's notice. Only had one bad experience in two years (someone had failed to leave the keys in the car and I had to trek into Elephant & Castle to collect one), and they're usually pretty comfortable and clean. Also only ?2.50 extra a month for a second driver on the account, which is pretty decent.
  7. They left me a voicemail to cancel and appointment last week as the works were overrunning. Said to call back on Friday to rearrange (which I haven't, yet), but I would take it from that that they're manning the phones sporadically.
  8. Just found out that some of the outbound trains from London Bridge are actually timetabled to wait at South Bermondsey for five minutes... Presumably to avoid clashing with the overground services down the line. Wonderful scheduling.
  9. @RRR - it's interesting this has a feel of the experience we had before Platform 14-15 were reopened. Queues to get into LBG which weren't so prevalent since Easter when 14-15 were partitioned from the rest due to 12-13 being shut. Now that 12-15 are all open again, there's probably more demand for track and signals on the same sections of track which have a knock-on impact to the rest of the services. I'm also noticing waits to depart South Bermondsey in the evenings, which hasn't been there in the past. Next big change due at Christmas, so this could be a feature of the next four months...
  10. Spoke to them on NCR this Saturday just passed. They said they're still on track for December...
  11. Yes. They'll be opening the two platforms (10 & 11) that are now closed, and then closing two more (8 & 9). http://www.thameslinkprogramme.co.uk/key-dates-and-service-changes/ http://uhoun19qey9384ovv24t33c1.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/September-14-london-bridge-map.pdf

Fixed until the next timetable update in (I think) the spring, or at least until the next mega change at Christmas (20th December to 4th January).
  13. Just a quick reminder that the timetable changes come into effect today. See the messages on page1 of this thread for more details.
  14. Fortunately they do tend to unload a large number of passengers at Denmark Hill, most of whom are heading to Kings, so there's usually some space at least. In the past I've boarded at the tail end of the train on those 8.xx services and never had to squeeze on. It being August too should provide some small relief. Would imagine, though, that the 40 will be horrific for anyone hoping to get on after NXR.

As per the reply from OutOfFocus at the end of the first page of this thread: https://www.tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/improvements-and-projects/london-bridge-rail-station/london-bridge-upgrade-travel-advice#on-this-page-2 ?From Saturday 23 August to Sunday 31 August 2014 National Rail tickets will be accepted on any reasonable route on London Overground, First Capital Connect, Southern, Southeastern, South West Trains, London Underground, London Tramlink, DLR and London Buses > I normally walk from L.Bridge to Bank where my > office is and have an annual rail ticket, so > considering getting a train from Denmark Hill to > Victoria and then the district/circle to Cannon > St, but don't want to be stung for the extra > underground fee. I do a relatively similar journey and for the days when I'm coming in next week, I'm planning on coming in via City Thameslink. I used to take that option in the past quite a bit, particularly when the ED timetable wasn't as favourable as it currently it - it's perhaps 15 minutes walk from there to Bank but quite a nice one.
  16. They need staffing for as long as they're in the 'closed' position. Quite often they're left open, anyway. You'll probably find they'll be manned in the peak and that'll be about it.

That's covered in fact sheet 9, here: http://assets.goaheadbus.com/media/cms_page_media/1273/Factsheet%209%20-%20Kent%20Thameslink%20services.pdf
  18. Still wading through the full details, but found this snipped on a Govia release (they're taking up the Southern franchise, joined up with Thameslink and the Great Northern routes). They take over the Southern franchise in July 2015. http://www.govia.info/gtr/route-fact-sheets/ (fact sheet 4 is the relevent one) - Ticket gatelines to be introduced at East Dulwich (date vague - any time between now and the start of 2017). - Free WiFi to be introduced at East Dulwich (if it's one of the 104 busiest stations in the franchise) during 2015 I can't spot anything on the list of service changes explicitly referencing any impact on ED directly, but there is a reference to Wimbledon to London Bridge services via Peckham Rye, which would presumably also be via East Dulwich.

I understood that it would only be once they'd finished the St Thomas St facade which, if you took a walk down there at all recently, looks a long way from completion. ---- Update: turns out if you ask nicely you sometimes get nice replies! Hi @marke_se22, its narrow as we work on the facade of St Thomas Street and the concourse below, it will widen when that's finished mid-2016— Thameslink Programme (@TLProgramme) August 6, 2014 ---- So there you have it - we're stuck with a narrow Platform 15 for the next two years...
  20. James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I can't see how we could add barriers. > Ideas/comments/thoughts welcome. Certainly overdue, but would almost certainly require investment beyond simply putting barriers in, as there being two entrances would require both to be manned (unless it was only the commuter one which was manned) in addition to any ticket office personnel. It's a shame this wasn't incorporated into the closure of the Garden Centre as a wider entrance on the office side along with a passage under the railway to the London-bound platform would be a way to limit it to just one entrance (and also allow for a larger ticket machine section on the other side. There can't be many Zone 2 stations without proper barriers these days, can there?

However, from reading the document it appears slightly differently. 7:31 is the time of the train departing West Croydon. This is the 08:00 service from East Dulwich which will still run but then terminate at South Bermondsey. 8:15 is the time of the train departing Beckenham Junction, which is the 08:40 service from East Dulwich. This also will terminate at South Bermondsey. As djaq2000 pointed out, there's also the loss of the 17:20, 17:50, 18:20 and 18:50 from London Bridge (which will start at South Bermondsey). However, the other services out of London Bridge have been slightly retimed in order to spread the load. Not so much impact if you are connecting to other services before LBG, but if your commute is from Dulwich to London Bridge, then that's a sizeable impact. The key peak services now will be: East Dulwich to London Bridge (curtailed services marked as '-'): 07:09 07:20 07:30 07:40 07:50 - 08:10 08:20 08:30 - 08:51 London Bridge to East Dulwich: 17:10 17:25 17:40 17:57 18:10 18:30 18:40
  22. Distance within ability bandings, from my interpretation. And yes, they preferred single-sex classes up to Y9 The rest isn't my fort?. There was mention of Charter by the leader of the council, but he rightly sidestepped displaying any bias.
  23. Guess you can't please all of the people all of the time. I, for one, learned plenty from the presentation that I didn't already know and found useful. Would agree, however, that more time could have been given over to a wider Q&A session but there's always the risk then that similar questions get regurgitated. Useful evening.

Not been yet but my polling card definitely mentions both. Presumably you're saying that this happened to you? If so, what reason did they give?
  25. Just to add to the catalogue of amusement, this morning's arrival into LBG (the 8:30 from EDW) was met by half the passengers waiting for the outbound standing in the sheep pen, another quarter standing along the platform waiting to board and another quarter making their way along the platform, salmon-like. If the station management aren't willing to police the sheep pen, it'll render it basically useless and the problem will only worsen over time. Joy!
